So do men not travel with their rosary, rather leave one at home/work/car,etc, and pocket a smaller rosary/coin/ring while traveling to help guide them while praying? Sorry for the silly questions 🙂
I generally use my fingers, but have used ring rosaries or carried one in my pocket. Another option is a single decade rosary or a “credit card rosary” with kinda embossed beads that you can keep in your wallet.

Doesn’t really matter to me since most my decades are between 8 and 12 Ave Marias regardless of what I use. 😃

I have used a metal, one decade rosary meant to be kept in the pocket. I have also had a ring that has a cross and ten bumps on it (and spins).

Often before mass I get out my smart phone and use a rosary app on that. The advantage with that is you get all of the readings between decades on screen.

When I drive I use my fingers so that I can drive safely. I, also, carry a Rosary in either my suit jacket pocket or shirt pocket.

Hi all, I’m new to the church and relatively new to the faith, but I am excited about my new Catholic faith and would like to pray the rosary daily. I don’t have a purse, or a fanny pack, so carrying my new rosary is a challenge. But I do want to always take it with me when I leave the house so I can pray it when I have free time.

The rosary fits in pant pockets, but it’s tight. I read that some people wear it around their neck, others don’t. Some feel it’s not respectful, others feel it is just fine. Is there a general consensus on this? I don’t want to be disrespectful with a sacramental. I could see how wearing it this way, under a shirt, taking it off to pray with it, and putting it back, would be very convenient as a man. What is the general thought on this from men?

Thanks!
Yes take a rosary with you everywhere.

In a former life, I carried a holstered gun on my hip. Now, I have chosen the weapon of Saint Padre Pio. I am rarely without one. I allow the crucifix to dangle from my pocket.

As to pants being a little snug, well…

I have been married far too long to opine on that. 😃

The more I think about this, I think I’m going to return this new rosary I just got and get a much smaller one I can keep on me at all times. I really have no use for multiple rosaries, and this is simply too bulky to keep in a pocket or even around the neck. The crucifix is just too big to wear (pokes out really weird under a shirt), and the thing is just too bulky for pants. This appealed to me being a St. Benedict rosary, but the size is impractical I think.
Don’t return it! Keep it in your dresser drawer or other easily accessible place. I understand not wanting to keep multiple rosaries, but I think it’s prudent to have a backup available.

I carry one in a backpack that goes everywhere with me, but a couple months ago I got a rosary bracelet and it has been amazing. I find h I got it on my wrist calls me to prayer more often than ever before.

In September, my wife and I had a premie in the NICU for a month. The hospital was Catholic and had a Chapel on the same floor as the NICU, so it was nice to have the rosary bracelet on hand so I could pop over to the chapel and pray, or I could pray while holding our little one.

I also love having it at mass, as I can discretely slip it off and pray a divine mercy chapter after receiving communion.

I bought 2 bracelets, this one for daily wear:

And this slimmer one that I usually wear to mass:

The last time I saw my youngest brother, I slipped the rosary bracelet that I was wearing onto his wrist. I loved how his eyes lit up. I had bought the wooden bracelet from the Trappist monastery in Conyers.

Although I had been taught as a child not to wear the rosary “as a necklace,” in his book True Devotion to Mary St. Louis de Montfort admonishes those who fear to look like peasants wearing the rosary. When I wear my rosary around my neck, I wear it under clothing. Whether a man or woman, there are rosary cases, much like coin cases in which you can carry your rosary.
While on day of renewal, I saw that a deacon wore his rosary looped around his trouser loops, and into his pocket. I think this work more more for a man than for a woman, like an old fashioned pocket watch.

That is totally up to you whether you want to have only one rosary or keep several around… I like to carry one with me in my pocket, but I also like to keep one under my pillow etc. and also have a small one decade chord rosary that I sometimes carry in my pocket instead of the five decade one, depending on where I am going. If you find that it is easier and more comfortable for you to wear it under your shirt, that is fine, too. Regarding the concern about wearing the rosary, it doesn’t make sense to wear the rosary like some of the celebrities, then engage in behavior that is contrary to our faith and morals. That is what is a disgrace. But there is nothing forbidding us to wear the rosary.

I made myself a large rosary so that I don’t lose my place.

According to Blessed Alan de la Roche there is a partial indulgence for wearing the rosary.

It is very common in some parts of the world to wear a rosary around the neck as a profession of faith.

I recall a science fiction story many years back that took place on a planet where the Church had a presence, but was suppressed. Believers started a fashion trend where coats had 10 regular buttons with a large 11th button at the bottom. No one thought anything about travelers walking on the road fiddling with their buttons.

No worries, it’s not a silly question.

I have two main rosaries that I carry with me, depending on the situation. I have one rosary that is just a knotted rope which I can easily keep in my pocket without any type of bag or anything. I like this one because my beaded rosaries tend to break when I keep them in my pocket. (The beads crack or the chain breaks). My other one is a nice wooden bead rosary that I keep in a small bag that I can either keep on my belt or in my pocket if there’s enough room.

The Church does not condemn the wearing of the Rosary and has even in the past offered indulgences to those who openly wear it out of devotion and to set a good example to others.
Unfortunately, neither of these intentions are taken into consideration in the modern use of the Rosary.
Wearing the Rosary with inappropriate clothing and blasé attitude has become so prevalent that some Catholic authorities have expressed “regret” about the way the Rosary beads are being trivialized.

The problem comes when the non Catholic law enforcement decides that what for many is a profession of Faith is in reality a sign of gangsterism.
