Good grief, a child has to have tonsillitis seven times in one year before they can have their tonsils out!

Aren’t Many of Our Insurance companies Virtually as Restrictive, in general? I know several Private Insurance people who denied t operstions, until the Eye or Problem got Worse; Others whose Policies Denied Payment (alleged beurocratic details), although the Operation was fully Proper And Needed. The Brit NHS citations are obviousluy Exageratted to suggest how One Payer Govt Health is ‘failing’; Universal Coverage in Every Country now, except the USA: Mexico began National Health for Pregnnt Women to Solve their High infant Death rate; We will move up to replace them soon.

Never mind that many do not grasp the structure of our healthcare system. What I do not understand is why there is criticism of the NHS by those who live across the pond when they are not the users of our healthcare system nor British taxpayers.

Because we have Massive false propaganda against Universal Health in the USA. Few of us know the Realities of the Advantages, including Much Longer Life actuality. The USA Health Business system has dropped from about 28th to about 36th! And we pay several Times as much per-capita and percent of our entire Economy (GNP). And a simple accounting rule change could have prevented most of it. The US didn’t need to spend trillions of dollars, simply allowing a present value calculation on sub prime investments instead of “mark to market” would have prevented most of the financial crisis. The financial markets didn’t fail because bad of mortgages so much as they failed on how the SEC required those losses to be calculated.

I’ve said that I work in the healthcare industry, on an ambulance. I start paramedic school this month (prayers welcomed).

I just got off a 24 hour shift this morning and something happened during the shift that I wanted to share, in reference to this thread.

It’s been argued that healthcare is already available to everyone in the US. During my shift I heard dispatch send another ambulance to a nursing facility for a patient transport to a Sacred Heart hospital in the neighboring county. The patient’s doctor ordered an ultrasound to rule out a DVT (deep vein thrombosis). The rural hospital in our county does not have ultrasound. The nursing home contacted Sacred Heart and relayed the doctor’s orders. During the transport our dispatch contacted the ambulance and said that Sacred Heart refused the patient and said to notify the ambulance to take the patient to another facility. The options then became 50 to 80 miles away, depending on the direction taken. The ambulance transported the patient to our rural hospital. Later in the day dispatch sent an ambulance to the hospital to return the patient to the nursing home, without the ultrasound tests to rule out DVT.

If we had ‘bypassed’ the closest facility that can perform the necessary procedure Medicare can, and normally does, refuse to pay for the transport and procedure. When Medicare refuses payment, providers are required by law to attempt collection from the individual. Very few patients in a nursing facility can afford payment.

This is an example of possibly a life saving healthcare being denied, based on a patient’s ability to pay.

DVT is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, usually in a calf or thigh muscle. DVT can partly or completely block blood flow, causing chronic pain and swelling. It may damage valves in blood vessels, making it difficult for you to get around. A blood clot can also break free and travel through your blood to major organs, such as your lungs or heart. There, it can cause damage and even death within hours.

The Problem Unique to the USA Only is that Healthcare is a Vast number of Businesses, using about 34% of our Entire Economy, with The Taxpayer being the Principal payer. One has to be “Qualified” First to receive, even by insurancec companies. We result in being about 36 best in the world, having dropped a lot recent years. Even Mexico has begun National Healthcare for Pregnant women, to conquer Their Highest infant death rate in North America. Other Nations have many private provider chioces also in their Vastly less expensive National Heath Systems per capita and % of GDP, and no personal babkruptcies as only the USA has, Unpaid Medical bills being The Leading cause. I have several relatives as MD’s and nurse in Germany and France.
