Is it really that bad that I am quite fine with not raising the children Catholic? I’m quite fine with them being raised Muslim and going to Catholic schools. **

Why are you happy with denying Christ to your children?
Yes it is bad, very BAD. So their faith will be Muslim. Many Muslims frequent Catholic schools.

Why do you ask? You are going to do it anyway. Ultimately we are free to choose. God gave us that freedom. We can choose good or evil. We must bear the consequences.

You have asked and received the opinion of others. But the choice is yours.

I am not saying that you will be choosing evil. I am just saying that it is bad because you are playing Russian roulette. There are cultural differences as well to consider and there have been many examples in the past of women who have lived to regret this kind of choice. Some have lost their children, some have lost their lives.

You want to jump - jump! Nobody can stop you.

I will pray for you
😦 :crying: :nope:

I dont see these as similarities, first of all you must believe in the Father Son and Holy Spirit, they don’t. Secondly the Lady of Fatima is the Blessed Mother, again big difference from Muhammuds daughters, Nothing here has anything in common with the Catholic Church.
Of course they dont believe in the Trinity! Thats what makes Islam Islam and not Christianity. But Look at this, in the Quran there is an entire Surah (Chapter) dedicated to Mayram (Mary). Not even protestants give Mary that much credit
All religions are not equal paths to God, because they teach different things about who or what that God is, and how we must worship Him. In my personal opinion as a monotheist, it follows by default that the one God of the Muslims must be the God of the Christians as well, but the Muslims mischaracterize Him because they do not know Him fully. They do not know him fully because their book, written by a man with incorrect and incomplete knowledge of Christianity, denies the divinity and crucifixion of Jesus. If you are ANY kind of Christian, you believe in those two things. Recall Jesus’ words in John 14:6 that no one come to the Father except through HIM. Take this seriously, recognize that Muslims do not do it, and recognize what that means for your possible husband and any children you may have with him. You may respect your husband’s/husband’s family’s religion, but you should not see it as co-equal with yours. They are not equal paths to God.
You know I asked a Muslim about this verse and he interpreted as Jesus’s guidance accept Jesus’s gudiance. Jesus doesnt say no one come to the Father except if he believes that I’m the only begotten son of God and that I died for all of humanity to wipe away the sins of the world. Now you said that the Quran was written by a Man but wasnt the bible. In fact, the bible contains several voices and perspectives whereas the Quran only contains that of Muhammad. Do you honestly believe that it’s fair for God to send someone to eternal damnation for simply having a different understand of who God is. No offense but do you understand how insane that sounds. It maybe true but is it fair? This is getting off topic so I’ll leave it at that.
**I AM A CATHOLIC MARRIED TO A MUSLIM MAN. **

My husband is a lax Muslim, so I did not think that religious differences would be a problem between us.

.
*]My husband treats me like I’m his servant. He has never helped me with anything.

I pray that you choose wisely. Your future children depend on it.

All for Jesus since He gave all of Himself to us.
This reminds me of the time my religion professor said he met a guy who wanted to go to a church that let him beat his wife because Paul told wives to “be obedient to your husbands” in spite of paul telling the husbands “to cherish and love your wives.” religion can be a tool for manipulation in either case. It depends on whose using it.
You don’t appear to a staunch

Religion is about heritage and culture. It is about passing your family traditions on.

You really need to learn your faith. For one, believing that Islam is another route to God is heresy; it is called religious indifferentism. This has been condemned by the Church.
I can see no good in bringing your children up as Muslim.
Isnt it equally as easy to say that Islam leads to damination simply because its not christianity?

What is so wrong with bring children up as Muslim. Sure there are some oddballs out there but every religion has them. that statement reeks of bigotry how would you like a Muslim to say that about a catholic. I’m sure mostly all of the children raised Muslim would probably disagree with you.

You mentioned in your post that you don’t feel a need to evangelize your boyfriend and that you would have no problem with your children being raised Muslim and that you feel Islam is another way to God. If this is true, then there is no compelling reason for you to remain Catholic. But if it isn’t, then are you willing to gamble the soul of your boyfriend and any future children you may have?

Have you studied Islam to learn all its beliefs? Have you read the Koran?

Jesus made some very exlusive, extraordinary claims about himself in the Bible, including being the only way to God (John 14:6). Islam teaches Jesus is only a prophet, and certainly not God or the only way to God. Both of these things cannot be true at the same time – either Jesus is who he claimed to be (God) and Islam is wrong about something very important, or Jesus isn’t who he claimed to be. In that case, Islam would still be wrong about Jesus because Jesus couldn’t possibly be a prophet of God if he were delusional or arrogant enough to believe he were God.

If it was necessary for Jesus to suffer and die on a cross for our sins in order for us to be reconciled to God, then Islam is wrong in teaching that we can make it to heaven on our own efforts. But if Islam is just one of many paths to God, then why did Jesus die on the cross?

Do you believe all we need to do is believe that God exists, or does God want us to *know *him? And how can we know God if what we know *about *him isn’t true? And if God wants us to *know *him, then he must have made it possible for us to know the truth about *him *–so different religions that teach contradictory things about God and his nature and character can’t all be different paths to God. If I want someone to know me, I have to tell him and show him the truth of who I am. If I hide who I am or make up things about myself that aren’t true, then I haven’t revealed myself to others and they don’t really know me. This is true of God as well, since he is a personal Being.

If Jesus really is God and really is the only way to God, and the Eucharist is really his Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, and the other sacraments truly convey his grace and power (including the indwelling of the Holy Spirit – how awesome is that??) then why would you want your boyfriend or children to miss out on those great gifts?

I’m a convert to the Catholic faith from evangelical Protestantism, and the reason I am Catholic is because it is true. The Catholic Church makes some pretty audacious claims about itself – being the one and only Church founded by Christ; infallible in teaching, etc. I realized long ago if those claims aren’t true, then the Catholic Church is a church I want nothing to do with, but if they are, then I want to be in it and I want others to be in it as well. Did I know Jesus before I became Catholic? Yes! Was I saved before I became Catholic? Yes! But now I know and love him more than ever before and have access to all the grace he wants to lavish upon me through his own Body and Blood and the other sacraments. I want my non-Catholic friends to have what I have, and my children as well.

I was married for twenty years and then my husband died in an accident. From those years of experience in marriage, I can tell you that it is very important that husband and wife be “on the same page” in important matters like faith, especially when children are involved. The whole purpose of marriage is for unity – it’s an image of Christ’s relationship with his Bride, the Church. Where there are significant differences of belief there will not be complete unity. And marriage is a difficult thing to succeed at because it calls for us coming out of our selfishness and giving of ourselves completely to another for their good, something we can only do by the grace of God. If one or both in a marriage aren’t depending on the grace of God to be selfless in marriage, then there will be problems. And when problems come, how are they dealt with? Suffering makes sense and can be put in perspective and have redemptive value in light of the Cross, but without the Cross it is simply something to avoid or just endure. When I got married the only advice I got from my pastor was “Keep Christ in the center of your marriage.” Simple, but very profound, and true – I can’t even begin to tell you how much that simple statement meant to me and kept my marriage together.

I don’t know how well grounded you were in the Catholic faith growing up, but I would encourage you to learn more and read and pray the Scripture for God’s guidance and wisdom.

God bless you,
Well said!

The only thing I might add is a warning to the OP to not confuse the “many paths to the same God” popular lie with the truth of invincible ignorance. Yes, we believe that those who live the best lives they can and who have never heard the Gospel may in a mysterious sense be saved by Jesus’ sacrifice–even when they have not heard His name. Based on the previous posts, though, that’s not the situation here. I’d even suggest that true invincible ignorance is likely becoming less and less common in our modern world; most have heard the message in some form or another. Religious relativism is not the answer.

^^Its funny how other religions claim to be the “Truth” yet nobody can prove independent of Tradition.

THis Man probably heard the gospel but according to you he will burn in hell despite the Hell he is facing here on Earth. He is a Muslim from Indonesia who used to attend the mosque. sad:(

You know I asked a Muslim about this verse and he interpreted as Jesus’s guidance accept Jesus’s gudiance.
I do accept Jesus’ guidance. Thank you.
Jesus doesnt say no one come to the Father except if he believes that I’m the only begotten son of God and that I died for all of humanity to wipe away the sins of the world.
I honestly cannot understand what you are trying to say here. The verse I am refering to is John 16:4, which says:

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

It is that simple, my friend. Jesus is THE way. Period.
Now you said that the Quran was written by a Man but wasnt the bible. In fact, the bible contains several voices and perspectives
Indeed, you are correct. The Bible was written and compiled by men. This is no secret to any archeologist, historian, or Catholic.
whereas the Quran only contains that of Muhammad.
Well, perhaps he could’ve used an editor…I hear the Turkish are available and willing… 😃
Do you honestly believe that it’s fair for God to send someone to eternal damnation for simply having a different understand of who God is.
Excuse me, but we’re talking about God. Does it really matter what I or you or anyone think is “fair”? NO! Proverbs 3:5 is a good verse to remember: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
No offense but do you understand how insane that sounds. It maybe true but is it fair? This is getting off topic so I’ll leave it at that.
As explained above, I don’t worry about what is fair. I don’t think Muslims do, either. Funny thing, that monotheism. Someone is ultimately right, but it’s not the other guy. 😛

Your post implies that Catholics believe that we deserve heaven, but nothing could be further from the truth. None of us deserve anything more than hell, since we have all sinned and turned our backs on God and man (Romans 3:23). Yet, in John 14:6, Christ reminds us that He is "the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." It is, then, through this grace (demonstrated as true and authentic by changed hearts and changed behavior), this incredible sacrifice that we hope to be saved–or, more accurately, we hope we were saved, are saved, and will be saved, since we are a work “in progress.”

None of us should be judging others as individuals; that’s just foolish pride. What we should be doing, though, is explaining what Christ Himself and His Church teach. There is one road to heaven, and it is through and because of Christ our saviour. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains “invincible ignorance” it is more than someone who simply doesn’t want to be bothered by making a decision for Christ.

^^^I’ll get to that latter I just wanted to let yall know that there is this guy at my work named Joe He is Muslim his father was Muslim and Mother Baptist and now he is dating this Catholic girl who is stern in her faith and is trying to get him to go to mass with her.

How does my statement “reek of bigotry?”

I don’t think any Catholic woman should raise her children as Muslim. I don’t think Islam is the truth and I will do my best to advise this woman not to reject the truth for a lie.

I respect your right to practice your religion but I do not respect your religion. However, I will not say anything bad about it because that is disrespectful.

Ye shall know them by their fruits. Our Lord told us we would know good men because of their good deeds. I have seen nothing good in Islam. The adherents of Islam appear to be very malicious and violent. They preach hatred and committ terrorist attacks. They subjugate their women and they force others to accept their faith. Just recently, hordes of Muslim clerics demanded that our Pope resign because he dared to say something deemed to be negative about Islam.

I don’t think very highly of Islam. Can you blame me? The followers of Islam are to blame for this. I see suicide attacks, religious persecution, and terrorism carried out in the name of Islam. What am I to think?

I see all these bad things carried out in the name of Islam, and you call me bigoted when I caution one of my fellow Catholics not to get caugh up in this religion!

I don’t think that this is at all what we are looking at. I don’t feel we are saying that they are terrible people, we are saying that our faiths are too different. This situation is completely different. We are not saying they cant convert, many are at this very moment. But this is a guy that wants to stay musim and her Catholic, and she wants to know if she can have the Children as both really. I cant see it happening. Unless im reading it wrong.

Erm, I was wondering how terrible of a Catholic would I be if I raised my kids Muslim instead of Catholic.

…so, since what I’ve read is based upon the agreement at Catholic weddings that I would have to raise my kids Catholic if I signed the agreement…if I have a non-Catholic wedding then I would not have that obligation, correct? Or is it still implied since I am Catholic?

I am still putting considerable thought into this and prayer as well.

That is correct, if you had a non-Catholic wedding, them the obligation to raise your children Catholic theoreticaly is not there.

However, you have an obligation as your children’s mother to teach them the truth, and since Christianity and Islam are so different, they cannot both be true. Which one do you think is true?

As I stated in my previous post, you will have to answer before God for their souls which He entrusts to you here on Earth. This is one of the most awesome responsibility a human being can have, but also one of the toughest. Whatever you do, or fail to do for them spiritually will not just effect them for the rest of their life. It may effect them for eternity.

Take it from someone who knows. I’ve been there, I’ve done it, I looked in my children’s faces, and realized that their lives were not a gamble. You want to do everything right. And nothing is more important than their souls.

Also, if you do not have a Catholic wedding, you will be cut of from the sacraments (i.e.: you will not be able to receive the Eucharist), since you will be considered to be living in sin with your husband. But considering that you do not seem to care about being Catholic, maybe receiving sacraments is not that important to you.

I am glad you are praying abouth it.

God Bless.

Happynoodle its not a matter of being a terrible Catholic, or terrible person its a matter of keeping true to you faith and your God. These People do not believe in Jesus, do you understand that. In the Catholic faith you can not reject the Trinity.

I guess the bottom line here seems to be HOW IMPORTANT IS THE CATHOLIC FAITH TO YOU?

You are correct you may go to anyother Church and get married as long as its not Catholic you do not have to sign a paper. (the best of my knowledge).

But you will not be married in the faith, you will always be a Catholic but considered a fallen Catholic.

But that is up to you, no one can make that decision for you, but I understand that these are not the answers you want to hear, but the faith will not change for you. If you turn your back on the faith you have turned your back on the Church (which is in fact to the Catholic faith Christ himself).

Im sorry but if you leave the Church your soul is in grave danger, thats what i am taught. I pray you make the right choice.

What I was trying to say is that you said I dont see any good raising your children as Muslims does that mean a general your or were you talking about someone specific?

Does this go for everyone? Where is it written? Also, does this mean that you should *never *be able to take the sacrament again?

A mortal sin is any sin whose matter is grave and that has been committed willfully and with knowledge of it seriousness. If you are in mortal sin you cannot receive Holy Communion. Grave matters but not limited to murder, abortion, homosexual acts, …or invalid marriage.

Now if you are married outside the church i would say it considered invalid according to the CC.

Now the only way you can go to communion is to go to confession if you are in serious sin. Now how could you go to confession and confess a sin, but then turn around and go to communion if you continue the sin. I mean why go, Confession is to be sorry and repent, and sin no more. Or at least try,

Now if marrying outside the faith is considered a mortal sin would it not make sense that you could not participate.

Catechism of the Catholic Faith will give further info on what constitutes mortal sin.

Hope that helps. I got my info from catholic answers.

For every Catholic, yes ot applies. A Catholic must marry in the Church or get permission to marry with what the Church calls a lack of form (if marrying another Catholic or non-Catholic Christian) or a dispensation if marrying a non-Christian. Failure to get those permissions means that the marriage is invalid.

This is written in canon law.

The person can return to the Sacraments by getting the marriage convalidated. Of course, should the person become unattached (by death or civil divorce) he/she can go to Confession and return to the Sacraments as well.

FIrst of all I’m not a Muslim second of Islam like most religions, has a long history. Its relgious text is quit extensive, both the Hadiths and Quran. If we look at the Islam we should examine it starting from these two points. While I have alot of complaints against Islam there is alot of good that can come from Islamic teaching, treat animals with respect, a love of God, give to poor and orphans etc. At one Mosque I attended the entire sermon was about obeying your parents. Yes, Islam, like all faiths, should be open to criticism but in the process of this criticism, we should also acknowlege its good side.
I don’t think very highly of Islam. Can you blame me? The followers of Islam are to blame for this. I see suicide attacks, religious persecution, and terrorism carried out in the name of Islam. What am I to think?
Did you know that underlying reason for a majority of suicide attacks are poltical? Besides sucide bombers only make up a small percentage of Muslims. Should we look at the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka and say they represent all of Hinduism or look at the Japanese Kamikazee fighters and say they represent Japanese values? You should also take into consideration the fact that most of the victims of suicide bombers are Muslim. There is also an admonishment against suicide in the hadiths, I just cant remember where.

Well, I wrote a longish reply about the West’s perception of Islam, but realized it was off-topic. So I made a new thread, “Public perception of Islam.”

Ruthie

Thank you for this piece of information, it’s called convalidation.
