I also stopped getting CD, since their new editorial policy evidently rejects their Catholic identity. It used to be just that, a digest of articles culled from the best Catholic magazines. A survey of any recent issue shows only a small percentage of the articles come from Catholic publications. Most are from MSM or Protestant sources. Even those that do have a so-called Catholic source are from liberal or dissenting authors and publishers.

Agreed - I still have a few months left on my subscription (did 3 years to save money), but I will not renew.

Crisis Magazine
Our Sunday Visitor
This Rock
These are my favorites.

I recommend U.S. Catholic and National Catholic Reporter…as KINDLING FOR THE FIREPLACE!

Seriously, I thoroughly enjoy Crisis. Although I do not currently subscribe to This Rock, New Oxford Review, or National Catholic Register, I would definitely recommend them all.

I also agree with the other posters who stated that Catholic Digest is a major disappointment.

I like Liguorian and St.Anthony Messenger too and Catholic Parent

I like the Rock.

I also take Envoy and Crisis. However, Envoy has fallen on hard times and is having difficulty in maintaining a publishing schedule. Crisis seems to have deteriorated lately.

I also like Touchstone, though it is ecumenical rather than Catholic… Its articles stress a strong, devout Christianity.

The Wanderer is good but I don’t have time to read it thoroughly.

Thanks for the replies. I ordered “Crisis” and “This Rock” after checking them out online.

At one time I subscribed to both US Catholic and National Catholic Reporter both are so horrible I can’t even find words enough to discourage buying either… There is a “National Catholic Register” that is orthodox and really quite good, but the names are so similar that there is sure to be some confusion.

Well, I agree…sort of. But some of us, are trying to change that. I did manage to sell them an article recently. And I am not a liberal nor a dissenting author.

We still get Catholic Digest, though it is “Catholic Lite”, my mom likes it, and I still find some good articles in it. We also get the Ligourian and Share the Word.

Good Afternoon All,

Does anyone have any suggestions for a me regarding a good Catholic mag to subscribe to?

I’m devout, and relatively old-school in my beliefs. I would enjoy something that features conservative writers with a hard-line approach. Sort of like our Pope!!

I get the impression from a previous thread that Catholic Register is good, Catholic Reporter is not.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

I already recieve Catholic Digest…

I recieve Inside the Vatican.🙂

I heartily recommend Faith and Family Magazine.
Catholic Parent Magazine and Liguorian Magazine as well as This Rock which is a Catholic apologist magazine.
You might like Our Sunday Visitor Newspaper too/

I subscribed to **Catholic Digest ** until I got sick of the liberal slant – although someone recently said it’s getting back on track.

You might also check out **This Rock ** and The Catholic Answer.

Those are far and away the two best…Anyone know if Envoy magazine is still published? It used to be a good one.

Envoy had some financial difficulties and isn’t being published at the present time.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to offer your reccomendations.

Catholic Answer seems to be a populr suggestion, and I found it pretty cheap on magazines.com.

Someone mentioned Envoy, and I did some research and it sounded pretty good. I didn’t see that it was out of publication when I looked around.

Either way, thank you all for your (name removed by moderator)ut. I’m leaning towards Catholic Answer at this point.

Mike Dye mentioned Catholic Digest having a liberal slant. It certainly has a “Protestants are OK, Muslims are OK, all religion is OK” slant. I don’t dislike the mag, but I am looking for something more along the traditional line.

Tell me about “Crisis” and “First Things.”
