Catholic priest blasted for asking 'ladies' to dress modestly to 'protect the

i think it’s strange that people find it strange to care enough about modesty in the Presence of our Lord to want to continue to talk about it in threads.
 
Wow, that’s a bit on the harsh side ? So, with the outfits I posted you would see me and say “oh she doesn;'t know better or doesn’t care”?
 
Yes, around here sleeveless tops and dresses are considered standard business attire for women.

Something like that is basically standard im summer. She would not be considered unprofessional or dressed “sexy” at all in a secular office.

I agree, I don’t see any problem with this dress but when I read the priests tweet, this is not what I suspected he was talking about. Maybe he was more referring to a tube top type dress or spaghetti strap dress. When sitting behind a woman at Mass and she is wearing a tube top, yes it is yes inappropriate attire.

The business clothes I typically see men in are either suits, polo shirts and dress slacks, nothing too immodest there.

Men in shorts, flip flops, tight shorts, … can be immodest

Right. I’m just making the point that men don’t have the experience that women in our society have. We don’t talk about men’s bodies the way we do for women, and a man wearing full coverage isn’t going to be seen as dressing weirdly or be unable to wear many normal men’s outfits. So men don’t really get how women are just tired of our bodies being such a focus.

Oh, what abject terror it is (when the time for judgment shall arrive) to have the possibility (not certainty, who am I to judge) of Jesus Christ saying to you:

”Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire." (Matthew 25:41)

And sinners still have the audacity to say modesty is not of utmost importance?

Part of that is because of the differences in men and women’s thought processes. From what I have read and been told, (I am not a man) a man sees a sexy or immodestly dressed woman and the image is difficult to forget for quite a while, so it wouldn’t be just a problem at Mass but it would stay with them for a while. I do not believe that women are the same in that way. The differences in the way God wired us.

Where I work, that technically breaks the dress code. However, A LOT of women get away with it (I just saw 3 in the last 3 minutes) because the dress code allows it if they have a suit jacket

So many (including the asst office managing partner) walk around with their jacket off.

Hence, that also leads some to dress like that even without bringing a jacket to work.

No one ever says anything because it’s assumed they have their jacket at their desk.

Though a few times a year emails are sent to remind everyone of the dress code.

NOTE: the violations the men typically have are (which are always in the email) include:
  • not tucking in their short sleeved polo shirts
  • wearing golf shirts
  • wearing v-neck undershirts (which are not allowed)
Etc.

The violations on the email for women are too many to list, including open toe shoes, party dresses, etc

NOTE: my law firm is a very liberal firm, in a liberal city (Philadelphia)

Would you prefer that those men and women not show up in church at all? Because that is more likely than them showing up dressed in accordance with your personal fashion standards.

Just remember this when you are sitting in an almost empty church one day.

Yes, I would prefer people who clearly don’t respect the Church not to show up at all. The question then begs, what else do they disregard or disrespect?

And here I would agree with you. A tube top or spaghetti strap top is miles away from a sleeveless sheath dress

You are being uncharitable by assuming that because they are not dressed to your personal standards, they “clearly don’t respect the Church”. The fact that they are showing up for Mass at all proves otherwise. If they “clearly didn’t respect the Church”, they wouldn’t be at Mass in the first place.

And if you make them feel uncomfortable, they might well decide to stop coming to Mass altogether, so that you can enjoy Mass in solitude.

Nobody likes being around prudes and nitpickers, and a congregation that gains a reputation of being a bunch of prudes and nitpickers is doomed to extinction.
 
Ah…makes sense. Necktie not required in the office, I assume?
