Catholic priest blasted for asking 'ladies' to dress modestly to 'protect the

It goes both ways. Both men and women should dress appropriately for Mass.

Granted, since some women’s clothing is purposely made to highlight certain parts of the body, they should be careful about what they wear to Mass. I’ve literally been in the communion procession with a young woman in front me me wearing tight Victoria’s Secret warmup pants with the “Love Pink” logo scrawled across her rear end. It’s not that hard to find decent, modest looking clothing to wear.

Men should dress like men at Mass. I can’t stand the sight of a guy wearing loose cargo shorts, flip flops and a baseball jersey to Mass. It looks sloppy and juvenile.

Click bait, the article cannot be read because a nag screen pops up.

It’s unbelievable to me that this is even controversial.
The vast majority of those complaining are non-Catholics, which should come as no surprise. Still, it’s sad that quotes like the below one are actually what some Churchgoers believe.
In honor of this tweet, I will now be taking up the hobby of attending church in only tube tops. I will show my shoulders to every man in the establishment, I won’t stop until my collarbone has caused countless erections, and it will all be your fault.
Very perverted, especially when the Real Presence at Mass is taken into consideration…

Catholic priest blasted for…

One of my axioms about contemporary life: People have too much time on their hands.

I’m sure the shoulders of all of the senior citizen women in the summer drive all the men wild.

On social media, the nail that stands straight gets pounded down.

Call me Old School, but I believe that men and women should dress in nice clothing for Mass.
I hate to sound judgmental of others who attend Church, but many dress like they were going to a ball game or something.
When we go to Mass, we are going to give glory and praise to God. It is a wonderful occasion.
There is a time and place for everything.

The obsession with this topic is strange. Perhaps we should just have men on one side and women in the other with a curtain down the middle.

Men are generally visually stimulated. I’ve been married to my husband of over 30 years now. This is a given.

But of even more importance is the honor & respect women give to God, themselves, & their bodies in dressing modestly. Our bodies are holy - life-giving temples of the Holy Spirit that receive the Body, Blood, Soul, & Divinity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

There’s nothing wrong with dressing nicely. I dress up for Liturgy. But people constantly harping on what their ideas are of modesty are is coming across not so much as really caring about modesty, but upset that everyone around them isn’t following their rules.

Denise, I understand what you are saying, but some people just do not seem to get the fact that Mass is a special celebration.
Many are called, but few are chosen.

One parish near me has the following in the bulletin and it’s received well.

Approaches like this one I think generally work well when it is obvious that the rules apply to BOTH men & women.

Wearing modest clothing to Mass isn’t controversial. Politely letting someone know it’s appropriate to have your shoulders covered in a house of worship isn’t controversial. Making it appear like the males in a parish cannot control themselves by seeing a shoulder casts the men there in a bad light and that is controversial. By posting about it on Twitter, in the terms used in the tweet, it’s going to be controversial.
This!!!

simple solution… follow the dress code for St. Peter’s Basilica (see my previous post about a parish that is doing this)

I get your point, too. But there are a lot of things that go on that go against my sensibilities, but I can’t turn Liturgy into an exercise of taking a mental inventory of everything I think others are doing “wrong”.

Antoher simple solution is praticing custody of ones own eyes when they see something they don’t like.
