I agree! The crimes sbould have been reported to the police not the bishops who would cover it up.
People are very good at hiding, as you can see. We never know who might molest. That goes for lay people, too. There’s no need for children to be alone with a member of the clergy anyway. I’d think the innocent clergy would want that so they could never be unjustly accused. But that is assuming that all clergy are a danger?
It might help if candidates for the priesthood were required to marry. Those who find celibacy “natural” therefore tend to be misfits rather than saints.
But are you saying all the clergy are predators? No half measures. Predators are successful because they act as if the rules do not apply to them. Make an exception for one, and it will snowball out of control. Give them an inch, they take a mile.
True, we cant judge by appearance. What is the age group of those who were assaulted? Also what if I wanted to speak to a member of the clergy alone because I need guidance? Are you saying that someone should be there?People are very good at hiding, as you can see. We never know who might molest. That goes for lay people, too. Do you really think married men don’t commit abuse? It might help if candidates for the priesthood were required to marry.
Married men are child molesters, too. Wouldn’t help at all.It might help if candidates for the priesthood were required to marry.
I don’t think a person becomes rubbish after being sexually abused by a priest. We still see that the bishops and others have recently called a child victim “rubbish” in Australia
Not at all. But all clergy should be subject to equal scrutiny. Nobody is above the law, and we should have more than someone’s word and reputation to judge their character. But are you saying all the clergy are predators?

But isn’t the reason that most victims are boys because, at least through the 70’s, only boys were altar boys and that’s when the priests had the most time alone with them? Granted after the 80’s when girls began being altar servers that dynamic changes. I’m only going on the personal memory that I was never alone with my parish priest as a young child (born in '64), but my brother was because he was an altar boy (born in '60).There is no way to protect boys without exposing the homosexual aspect of this scandal. Most victims are boys, and that is completely clear
Not to the extent that we see it in the unmarried priests in the Roman Church. True, It appears that it is a problem, but a much smaller one in the Orthodox Church among their married priests.Do you really think married men don’t commit abuse?
That’s only because they have fewer priests. Not to the extent that we see it in the unmarried priests in the Roman Church. True, It appears that it is a problem, but a much smaller one in the Orthodox Church among their married priests.
Quibbling about the exact meaning of Greek nouns is a smokescreen. Sexual abuse of minors is the crime the priests committed, and which too many bishops allowed them to go on committing with impunity.
- How many of these cases actually involved pedophilia…that is a situation with pre-pubescent children. I think I read about 1 case out of 300…not that a relationship with a 15 year old is acceptable, it is just that it is a different beast.
