i think we have an obligation as a christians to provide basic food clothing and shelter to everyone.

as for illegal aliens, we don’t have to hire them as catholics. our government is letting the working middle class america down with this amnesty. i’m very dissapointed with bush and the rest of the globalists who are hell bent on making the rich richer.

Why is it that when anyone mentions “illegal aliens”, it’s all about Mexians??? I feel that this is racism. This is racism against all hispanics. There are also other people being mistreated and they are Americans from Puerto Rico.

There are more Irish illegal aliens here in America then the Mexicans. There are more illegal aliens who are from all over the world here on expired student visas…yet only we hear about Mexicans. i really can’t believe that I’m living in America and there are people who are racially and religiously persecuted everyday in the United States.

Who really started this? Think about it. I also think that it is horrible to have a wall which costs much money to tax payers and it generates hate and racism. It was a great day when the wall came crashing down in Germany…now we placed a wall.
Very sad.

People are people (legal or illegal aliens) and they should be treated with the respect they deserve.

We do have a work visa and citizen ship already…however, I think the system discrimates againsts certain peoples. Especially those of Catholic religion.

Been there, done that!! You’re not alone Meeshy. Keep the posts coming!!
It would seem to me that the proper response to a reprimand is to examine one’s behavior and attempt to mend one’s ways.

Amen to that!

I’ll add that one of my relatives was killed by a “disadvantaged, honest, hardworking” illegal alien. The illegal alien was driving drunk, ran a red light, and smashed into my cousin’s car. The drunken illegal then ran from the scene of the accident while my cousin bled to death.

I’ll support the Bishops directives on illegal immigration with the same devotion that St. Athanasius supported the Arian Bishops, thank you very much.
I’m very sorry about your cousin.

Also, it was illegal aliens on expired student visas who bombed the world trade center which many lives were lost. and these illegal aliens were not Mexicans.

Many people have been murdered by drunk drivers who fled the scene and who weren’t Mexican.

This is called racial profiling…

Before we accuse others of racism, let’s get our facts straight, shall we?

From: cbs5.com/topstories/local_story_076021919.html
(CBS 5) SAN FRANCISCO More than 600,000 illegal immigrants living in the U.S. are from Canada and Europe, and 50,000 of them are from Ireland.
If we take the generally accepted figure of 10 to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States, this would indicate that no more than 6% would be from Canada and Europe combined, and no more than 0.5% from Ireland.

Where tp begin? Are you telling us that there are more illegal Irish immigrants in this country than Mexican? I don’t understand. And I am really tired of having people tell us that those who break our laws should be treated with respect. They have come without respecting our laws. I am all for helping those who need help, but just how much of this influx can we possibly absorb and still keep our schools and hospitals operating as they should? People are people indeed. But people who break the law are illegal.

I will ask God for the strength to forgive you.

Other countries have destroyed their economies. So their citizens have come to the United States looking for relief.

Politicians and bureaucrats are now espousing that the United States embrace the very policies that destroyed the economies of those other countries.

The United States should be exporting the very American version of capitalism that has been responsible for creating the prosperity that everyone comes to the United States to seek.

The United States should reject the inroads of Socialism for many reasons, one of which is that Socialism destroys prosperous economies and substitutes the command economy that has destroyed so many countries in the world.

Interested persons should visit www.heritage.org and review the various articles there.

The United States is governed by the Consititution of the United States and through the powers invested by the Constitution in the Congress, the Executive Branch and the Supreme Court.

The United States has freedom of religion as stated in the Bill of Rights; however, religious bodies do not govern the United States.

Religious leaders govern the Catholics of the United States.

Our Bishops govern us, oh yes they do. Our duty first and foremost is to the Church.

Read the Constitution. None of those duties of government are under the jurisdiction of our religious leaders.

Nor is the codes of laws of the State Governments or County Governments or Municipal Government.

The duties of Catholics and the code of God are upheld by, and taught to us by, our Bishops.

We are Catholics first, then citizens. Not the other way around.

We look to the bishops to tell us what our duties are but not how best to achieve specific ends. Bishops may remind us of our duty to feed the poor but we look to economists for an understanding of how best to do that. Most bishops understand this and don’t mistake moral authority for political expertise … but some forget themselves, and when they do I have neither the responsibility nor the inclination to follow them.

Nowhere in any post have I said or insinuated that the bishops advocate breaking laws.

My city recently tried to pass a law barring people from employing illegals. It did not pass, but if it had, I definitely would have broken it and every law associated with it.

Some cities have laws forbidding the renting or selling of property to illegals. I would definitely break those laws.

If there were laws requiring citizens to notify the authorities regarding a person’s illegal status, I would definitely break those laws.

If it came down to harboring an illegal immigrant in my home, I would definitely harbor him and I would organize an underground network of sympathizers to harbor other illegals.

I can’t think of anything else right now but I’m sure you understand the kinds of laws I would break.

Once again, I ask my three questions:
  1. Is it morally permissable to hire an illegal imigrant?
  2. If it is morally permissible, are we morally obligated to pay him the same wage and benefits necessary to attract an American citizen to that job?
  3. If we pay the same wage and benefits necessary to attract an American citizen to that job, is it morally permissible not to give the job to an American citizen?
