Canon Law calls for us to try and bring those who are in error back into the truth.

Much like “liberal” or “conservative” the term “Catholic In Name Only” is misguided attempt to bring political language into the theological/canonical realm. One is either Catholic or not Catholic. It doesn’t mean that someone is a good or faithful Catholic, but once batized they remain forever Catholic. And unless under some kind of canonical penalty they enjoy all the rights that every other baptized Catholic does.

You might not like your brother or sister, but they remain forever your brother or sister.

Thank you, Father. Not the first time I have heard that from clergy, but it bears repeating – if for no other reason that as a reminder that the Devil’s favorite playground is named Division; it’s where he thrives. (Fr. Corapi reminds us of this often.)

And should be fraternally corrected when they distort the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Jesus said, " my brothers and my mother are those who hears and do the Will of God." so I do agree wiht Jesus. He also said, “if they dont hear the Church treat them as heathen.” I also listen to Jesus on this one. I prefer to follow Jesus instructions that to listen to someone’s opinion that do not follow the instructions of Jesus.

Notre Dame shouldn’t be included in the 96 schools. They do not have a student run gay/lesbian club. They have the Core Council for Gay and Lesbian Student needs that does not divert from Catholic teaching. They steer students to live a life according to the laws of the Church. Much different from other universities’ clubs. Many religious are on the Core Council.

NO I’m not a racist nor homophobic,nor do i hate women, First of all I’m a Single 78 year old who has dated well over 200 ,Ladies,I’ve lived amongst the blacks for over 40 years, and I know homosexuality is a Vile Affection,but I will not, probelly forever, vote for a black, a women or a homosexual. by the way, I know , obama is dumb, or ignorant in what he is doing. do you want to hear what I think of Mrs Clinton , Pelosi, Baraba Boxer??? I don’t think so!

there is nothing wrong with what you said here. but you will be chastised by people who have forgotten to respect others opinions in certain matters. everything is about doing what is policatically correct. stick to your guns. you dont need to be all nicy to prove how great you are. you are not here to please anyone but God alone. good for you to refuse to go with the trend of the day.

There is no evidence of this. he wont release his transcripts from college and give the total ineptness he has shown since taking office “brilliant” is not a term i would associate with him.

You admire women who believe the most sacred right a woman has is the right to kill her child and that the taxpayer shojuld pay for it??? Boxer would not even acknowledge a newborn should have the full protection of the law.

I supported Clinton’s bid for the Democratic nomination because I thought she’d make a better President than Obama or McCain. A real disappointment to me that she isn’t leading our country today.
 
Most Catholics in America look at it like this:
  • Freedom of religion is granted in America
  • There is nothing Constitutionally barring gays from being in Civil Unions and a woman from having an abortion
  • While these things are wrong according to the Catholic faith, they are not wrong according to the Law of the Land (the Constitution) and so can’t be made illegal
A notable example of this view would be Senator John Kerry (a senator from my state…just saying). He sees abortion as being morally wrong, but doesn’t see it as being legally wrong and so supports it with hesitation.

It’s a noble position of separating Church and State. When the two mix, disaster results, hence why Pope John Paul II forbade priests from holding public office.

I see it like this as well when it comes to gay Civil Unions. However, when it comes to abortion, it can be argued that life begins at conception and abortion is murder in this sense. So we can make abortion illegal using secular law only and not turning to religion. You can’t do this when it comes to gay Civil Unions, though. If I were President, I would do nothing to promote gay Civil Unions and/or gay marriages and I would do nothing to oppose them.
