I believe in remnant theology. Every human being is either united to Adam or the 2nd Adam (Rom 5). All that matters is being a new creation in Christ!
So it doesn’t really matter if someone holds to Sola Scriptura? You just called in essential and now it’s not essential?

This is a very true, but sad fact. Rather than meeting Christ in person through His Body, bible Christians are limited to what they can glean out of the scriptures. I thank God that He brings His word to life in the heart of those who read and pray scripture, but I earnestly pray that my separated brethren may be able to access His Grace also through His One Body, the Church.
My question is how can they follow it if it contradicts itself so easily? I feel like Jesus in the Bible is fairly limited, that you can only really scrape the basics of Him and His teachings. Don’t they believe there has to be something to supplement the teachings?

Well, through the Scriptures… we are being strenghtened in Christ. I guess it would be similar to how you view the Eucharist.
Would be nowhere near similar unless you believe the paper to be the actual body and blood of Christ. Which I’m assuming you don’t.

Honestly, I really believe dear brothers like Scott Hahn let go of Sola Scriptura in error. If I let go of Sola Scriptura as an essential truth, [SIGN]I could easily be Catholic[/SIGN]. However, being Catholic or Protestant is not a crucial error from my view. Hence… ECT III on Catholic Answers!
got ya. You said you were Catholic. Remember? But then you started with C and c and all of that crazy stuff. Remember?

Your best Catholic apolgetists are ex-Protestant pastors!
Is that why you are afraid of the Apologetics fora? Do you think you may be bested?

I think they are probably best with those who come from their same traditions. There are others who are better with atheists. Some of the best Apologists against Mormons are ex-mormons, and so forth. This is because personal experience is helpful, and God uses all things for the good. Those who have travelled the road are more familiar with it. I find that people who do not have any experience in evangelical circles really have trouble understanding evangelical terminology.

How are you being strengthened in Christ through the Scriptures? This is no where NEAR how we view the Eucharist. This ain’t even on the same field, in the same ballpark, playing the same sport.

Something to think about Adam. I am almost possitive how Scott hann became Catholic was he was set out to prove the Church wrong. And he couldn’t.

I remember him saying when he first walked into the CC he could not believe what he saw. Heaven on earth us what he saw. Just like it was written in the bible.

I like to read him because he makes me appreciate what I have always had and took for granted my whole life.

Well, this is good to know. Perhaps your studies will lead you to find, as did theirs, that it is SS that is an extrabiblical doctrine of men. When you come to realize that scripture in fact says the opposite about itself, it will be simple for you to embrace the Faith of the Apostles. 👍

Same here Shannon. To me the Eucharist is my one on one time with the living Christ. And when I receive the living Christ and keep going Sun after Sun and asking time and time for his wonderful Grace he gives it to me.

Kinda like Johnny Cash with the Car. One piece at a time. Jesus just may get my body built like that car someday too! Hopefully when I die I can be full of his Grace.👍

Thanks for answering that question, now how about answering the others I posted?
Good luck.

2nd Adam puts out a lot of strange and cunfused things by won’t answer MOST of the responses he gets.
I have a whole list of rebuttals to his remarks that he won’t answer.
Hit-and-run posting has become an epidemic on this forum . . .

Well, I KNOW this is just a shot in the dark, but where does the Bible teach Sola Scriptura.
I’ve asked you this before but got no answer . . .

PS - I don’t really expect an answer because no Protestant has ever been able to answer this.

If you’re so into reading things written by ex-Protestants, and you feel you have so much in common with Hahn, why don’t you read a little of his stuff?
I used to read all of the Catholic Answer stuff like Patrick Madrid, Scott Hahn, Catholic Answers tracts, etc many years ago. Nowdays, I like ECT 1 and ECT II, and of course I love Pope Benedict’s paper on justification by faith alone …with the if. 🙂

Well, they say they don’t, but their actions speak louder than the words. At the head of the list is the doctrine of Sola Scriptura, which is the primary “supplement”. Then there are the sites like “monergism.org” that is somewhat like our Catechism, but based on the teachings of the Reformers, also not in the Scripture. So, whether they say there has to be nothing else or not, there is.

Is Sola Scriptura being an essential truth in the Bible? If it’t not, than it has to be wrong. You’re going to run yourself crazy trying to figure all that out. My advice to you would be stop the insanity and come home. We’ll be waiting like Journey, with open arms.
Hey dear brothers and sisters in Christ who are Catholic Christians, this world is not our home. We are all pilgrims and aliens on a journey to the Heavenly City. I do enjoy visiting all of my Christian siblings throughout the universal catholic Church. You have not arrived because you are part of the Catholic Church.

I honestly believe that being a sola scriptura Christian is pleasing to God. Listen to the words of Jesus because Scripture will always point us to Himself. You don’t have to agree with me. 🙂

Matthew 4:4

“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

We are two days from what? 😉

We agree, we just don’t agree Scripture is the supreme authority, nor that it is the only thing that points us to Christ.
Matthew 4:4
“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
I agree, but is it just the written words that come from the mouth of God?
We are two days from what?
Eve of All Saints Day. Praise God.

That’s a tough one. If Protestants start studying Church History, and Catholics start studying Scripture in greater depth… we will meet in the middle and apex of Christianity which is Christ and Him crucified for sinners like me and you!
There is no middle ground . If Catholics read the Bible more it will do nothing more than affirm their Faith-if Protestants study Church History they will become Catholic.

Although it is nice for one to study Scripture in depth is is not necessary to understand the 'truth". The Church has laid that out clearly for all who make an effort to seek it.
