Hi Ed,
regarding my previous post copied below
and john 3:6 being a contrast between ways of flesh and spirit
is refelcted clearly in
Ez 36:25- (KJV)
25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
do you agree its an interesting parallel
rom 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

my interpretation of John 3:5 and literal wateri know, i know…
its not that I think it automatically water always means ‘baptism’
but all these direct/explicit links of water to life/saving/baptism/holy
are so much more convincing when applied to jesus words in john 3:5
than the denominations that say no
jesus did not mean literal water he meant
birth from flesh/womb (based on the verses that describe a sea of people)
and I am not convinced about the flesh in john 3:6 as a back up for this interpretation.
(ie: as i’v asked b4 - wouldn’t it of been easier for him to say in john 3:5 born of flesh and spirit)
i definately see john 3:6 is all about the conflict between a person struggles in ways of flesh and spirit that is expressed in other verses including jesus.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
john 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
gal 6:8 … For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
