YUP! I got fined for not wearing one. :):):)šŸ™‚
Thorwald,

I had edited my post while you were responding. I apologize. Anyways what you say is interesting. God is ultimately in control, there is no doubt about that, and if it is someones time to go then no bullet proof anything is going to change that. I still don’t see wearing things such as bullet proof vests, seat belts or driving around in a bullet proof vehicle as signs of lack of faith though. Like I said, I have great faith that a bullet will kill me. I have great faith that wearing a seat belt can save someone’s life. I’ve seen it šŸ‘

God bless

I understand where you are coming from. I just live my life on the edge, I guess. I really have no fear. I know that God is always with me.

FOR HUMOUR
I am an avid prospector. I once asked two MNDM geologists to visit my mining claims. On my way into the ā€˜showing’ with the geologists, I was talking to them as I was leading them down the trail (They were behind me.). I had about 25 sticks of TNT under my left arm, about 10 blasting caps in my left shirt pocket, carrying a 5 gallon mixed gas container in my right hand, and I was puffing on a cigarette while walking and talking. I then asked the geologists a question. I received no answer. I looked back down the trail, and saw the two of them still standing by their truck. I never laughed so hard in my life. šŸ™‚

On another occasion, I had just finished drilling and loading some blast holes. I had noticed that a hunter had built a bear platform in some trees along my trail into the showing. I had just got behind some cover, and was about to set the blast off, when high-powered rifle shots started to come through the trees, close to where I was ā€˜hiding’ from the blast. I was not a happy camper. I set my blast off on purpose. Blasted rocks flew everywhere. In less than a minute, I heard a vehicle’s doors being slammed by the main road, and the squealing of tires. When I went back to the road, there were two deep grooves in the gravel road, where the hunters took off. šŸ™‚

RCIA;

I went into the respery, I greeted the priest (father stephens), we all sat down for coffee. After introducing each other we finally went into the church and he started explaining all the symbols to us, all the statues, all the stain glass images ect. He showed us that there were figures of the saints under the altar table. We were there for quite some time but the other Irish priest was there too, he has retired now but still lives there.

The priest saw how shocked I was to see everyone bowing down to an image on the wall (I didn’t like this so I couldn’t participate in this part…) I couldn’t bow down to it! Any way the priest saw my reaction and so he explained it to me but I wasn’t impressed…but I still didn’t do it. It felt really awkward because I didn’t want to offend him, but I think that he understood and was okay about it…

He was such a really lovely guy though, he was extra kind to me! It’s funny because last sunday at mass he looked so very sad and depressed so I took a candle and lit it under Mary while I said a prayer for his wellbeing. He seemed on top of the world yesterday during RCIA! I’m feeling so much better about the Church now, the Roman Catholic Church (my Church)!

I no longer belong to a stupid denomination that is split off from the pope, but now I have a Roman Catholic Church, yay!
I can’t wait to go again!

While there is nothing wrong with expressing the joy you feel now of being in the Catholic Church there is no reason to drag your former church (or any protestant church for that matter) through the mud šŸ˜‰

To a great many people they are not stupid. They are part of the faith they have grown up with. For some it is all they know. In fact it was more than likely your Methodist upbringing which prepared you for entering the Catholic Church. Perhaps it taught you reverence for the Holy Scriptures? To love and obey our Lord? The worthiness of seeking truth where ever it may be? To follow the lead of the Holy Spirit where ever it may lead/pull/push?

Just keep in mind that while this is a Catholic forum there are Protestants who frequent it. Protestants very far from stupid šŸ‘

God bless

Protestants… come to think of it, all of my friends on my friend list are either catholic or moromon! None of them are protestant…
God bless
God bless you too! šŸ™‚

Uh…Mormons are Protestant. šŸ™‚

It is a good thing, that your ā€˜enemies’ are poor shots, otherwise, you might have received a head wound. šŸ™‚

I should have ā€˜died’ many times in my life, but I was always ā€˜saved’ from the impending ā€˜disaster’. I came to realize, that no person, or event, can take my life, until God decides that my time is up. I have no fear of anything in this life, where my life/death is concerned. I am in God’s hands. Let His will be done. šŸ™‚
Even Jesus did not take stupid risks. When the Devil tempted Him to leap off the Temple parapet, because surely the Angels would guard him from harm, He said, ā€œDo not tempt the Lord your God.ā€

None of us has any fore-ordained time of death. Our ā€œtime will be upā€ when our bodies no longer work well enough to keep our souls attached to them. If we put ourselves in the way of harm, that day will come sooner, rather than later.

:yup::yup: TRUE! Please wear your belt… I know that heaven sounds like a good place but that doesn’t mean that you should run towards it so fast that you forget where you were going! šŸ˜‰

Catholicism has added the rosary (along with repetitious prayer), and prayers to Mary and ā€˜dead saints’. Saul was frowned upon by God (The Chronicles) because he used a median and sought wisdom from Samuel, instead of praying directly to God for wisdom. Speaking in Latin, when the congregation does not understand this language, serves no purpose. The scriptures tell us, that if we wish to communicate with God in a language that He understands, this is okay, but we shouldn’t use a language that the congregation doesn’t understand, while they are in church for the purpose of worshipping God. These are just some examples.
For someone who puts no faith in the Catholic Church, you sure do put a lot of faith in the book it compiled. Remember that FIRST there was the Church as the foundation (established by Jesus Himself when saying ā€œupon this rockā€¦ā€). The Bible is not, whoever, the foundation of the Church (though certainly is very important because it’s His inspired word).

I would encourage you to dig deeper into what Catholicism truly teaches because you display your ignorance about it in this text. The Rosary may have repetition but it is not without meaning, it’s not ā€œnonsenseā€ nor is it babbling as we are told not to do. It’s a meditation on the life of Christ. To borrow from Paul’s form of speaking: Oh what a horrendous practice!

Also recall that the saints are not dead. How can they be if they’re WITH God?
Matthew 22:32
ā€˜I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."

Prayer to the saints is NOT worship. We ask them to pray for us, the same as asking you to pray for me. Do you never ask anyone to pray for you or do you never pray for someone that asks? If you do pray, are you God? Are you getting in between them and God? Of course not! So then why are you against the saints who are in heaven? If you wonder how they can listen to us, then I’d caution you not to be limiting God who is all powerful.

Having faith in the Lord is excellent, but being reckless and careless with what He gives us isn’t which seems to be what you’re promoting. Wearing a seatbelt is a lack of faith?
Let’s take this to an extreme then. Will you never eat again because eating is lacking in faith that the Lord will feed you? Do you never sleep because He will give you your rest? Do you not work because He will provide you with any money you might need? I would hope you see the absurdity of this.

This is completely understandable. Perhaps this will help: we do not bow down to an object in the sense of idolatry. Remember that bowing isn’t worship (just like bowing in Japan is done out of courtesy and not worship, and the same goes for bowing to royalty like the Queen of England.) Rather, when you see someone bow down to an image or to a statue, it’s simply done as a sign of respect. Why show our respect? Because in the case of saints, looking at their image (if you know their life) can help us recall they example they set forth. Who was this image of?

Having images of the saints is the same as having images of your deceased relatives. You honor their memory, NOT worship them. Unless you’re saying that having images of them is bad and should be thrown out when one passes away.

Remember that praying to a saint (asking for prayers for some intention like you would to any person here on Earth) is not the same as praying to God (worship).

Your first comment has nothing to do with putting your trust in God. It deals with ā€˜tempting’ God. šŸ™‚

Our world is full of ā€˜unseen’ dangers. We never know ā€˜what is around the next bend’. If God has a specific purpose for you (your calling), nothing can interfere with His calling. You just have to be careful, after you have ā€˜done your job’. šŸ™‚
