Catholics, what do you do with 1 John 5? It contradicts RCC doctrine concerning the assurance of salvation. See for yourself.

Baptism truly makes us born again. In short, baptism is efficacious. Before baptism we do not participate in the inner life of the blessed Trinity. After baptism we participate in the inner life of the blessed Trinity. In fact, we become adopted sons and daughters of God. Therefore, we are born again.

Well I’m glad you asked! Its called the catholic church and just for your own peace of mind go ahead and take some college courses on biblical history, greek, hebrew, latin, fathers of the church, and then read the bible! You will find your lessons will coincide with the catholic church! Another thing! You don’t need to be baptized with water!!! Wow someone should have told jesus that didn’t need to bother getting baptized by john! so what place do you go to for church?

JohnPaul87:
I believe St. Paul spent three years in Ephesus (Sic) teaching. That is why we need to constantly update and educate ourselves. We are fishes swimming in a vast ocean of Scripture and Tradition, an ocean that is both wide and deep touching every possible experience of all humans. If you swim in the shallow waters, you remain in the shallows.

sorry ata, that made not much sense. ask god to come into you. be born again. then we can talk

Well you said you where not catholic so I am guessing by your statement of mass that you are an episcapalian right or wrong? And if wrong then what?

All in favour of closing this wasted thread please raise your hands. Idle talk, name calling, false assertions without any attempt to justify all add up to lost prayer, meditation, and Bible study time not to mention that some are being led into sin. I personally wish only to pray for each and every participant here, including self, to be led by the Holy Spirit of The Most Blessed Trinity into the understandings and practices that we need to attain the highest possible place in God’s Kingdom.

I am sorry that I implied that this thread has been entirely wasted. It has not! There has been some good content and exchanges that have happened here. It just seems to me that the thread is degenerating.

=mmmcounts;4731157]I’ll start by saying I’m somewhat familiar with the “Warnings Against Private Interpretations.” Let’s deal with that upfront, shall we? Here’s that passage.
1 Jn. 5: 18-20 "18 We know that any one born of God does not sin, but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world is in the power of the evil one.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
Haydocks Catholic Commentary:
Ver 18: "Ver. 18. Sinneth not. The generation[5] of God preserveth him, (i.e. the grace of adoption, as long as it remains in the soul; see Chap. iii. 9.) and the wicked one (i.e. the devil) toucheth him not.
"Ver. 19. And the whole world is seated in wickedness;[6] i.e. a great part of the world. It may also signify, is under the wicked one; meaning the devil, who is elsewhere called the prince of this world, that is, of all the wicked.
Ver. 20. And may be in his true Son.[7] This is the true God, and eternal life. Which words are a clear proof of Christ’s divinity, and as such made use of by the ancient Fathers.
The RCC says we can’t know that we have eternal life at any point before we die, nor will we actually have eternal life until some time after we die. Yet John writes these things about God’s testimony that we have eternal life, and he tells us he writes these things so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Not quite, my friend. Redemption was ans is assured by the life, death and ressurection of Christ. But Salvation and Redemption are NOT synomous words.

By Redeeming us Christ makes heaven POSSIBLE. But that by irself is not an assurence of salvation.

1 Peter 1: 8 Without having seen * him you * love him; though you do not now see him you believe in him and rejoice with unutterable and exalted joy. 9*** As the outcome of your faith you obtain the salvation of your souls***. 10 The prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired about this salvation; 11 they inquired what person or time was indicated by the Spirit of Christ within them when predicting the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glory. 12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things which have now been announced to you by those who preached the good news to you through the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. "
Remember that RCC doctrine is man’s testimony and 1 John is God’s testimony. Now refer to verse 9 (the one in magenta). “We accept man’s testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.” I would strongly advise against denying God’s testimony so that you can continue affirming man’s testimony. That doesn’t seem very sound. Instead, follow the example of the Bereans. When Paul was with them, they examined the Scriptures every day to see if what he said was true. They were praised for this. If the Bereans were praised for doing this when an apostle was physically present and talking right to them, you should definitely submit “apostolic tradition” to the authority of Scripture in the same way. Examine the Scriptures to see if what it says is true.
Nice try:blush: BUT,here (again) is the rest of the story…

1 John "6 This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. 7 And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is the truth. 8 There are three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree. 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has borne witness to his Son.** 10* He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne to his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life;** he who has not the Son of God has not life**.
It should go without saying that I do not welcome protests about “private interpretation.” The contents of 1 John are not the result of private interpretation. Its origin is in a man named John who spoke from God, and you will do well to pay attention to it. Deal with what is found there. That’s twice now that I’ve addressed the issue, so if you truly think I want to make it three, whatever is wrong with you is no small thing.
Same bible, same author, same book BUT the entire TRUTH!:tsktsk:

God bless you dear friend, and yes, I did answer your question!

wow john. you summed it up pretty good.lets stick to catholic stuff. none of this other stuff.

**hi bejohn,

You were doing so good until you got to: So let us not judge one another here for that is God’s job. Let us not try to convert one another here for only God knows our hearts and our attempts to convert will only hurt as conversion is not our job. But let us all love one another and share the love God has shared with us with one another.**

I think by your reply that you agree that I continued to do well for you have said:

** We are called not to judge but to be witnesses! **

If we see a neighbor in sin and do not admonish them, then we answer for their sin as well as ours.~ Leviticus 19:17.

** I said:**
So let us not judge one another here for that is God’s job. Let us not try to convert one another here for only God knows our hearts and our attempts to convert will only hurt as conversion is not our job. But let us all **love **one another and share the love God has shared with us with one another.

It has been said that if you try to convert someone the first thing that you must do is wound them even if all you do is speak only the Truth. To understand consider the apple. If you break the protective skin by taking a bite out of it and are distracted for a while say in conversation, the apple has started to turn brown. So it is for the human. When we wound the protective skin of self that God has given them we open them up to the entry of demons of anger, or doubt and in their freewill they might choose not to believe. Conversion comes from the inside out not the outside in. Our part in the conversion is to be witnesses who evangelisze by our actions, our lives and if we must by our speach. We evangelize through attraction. Those converted turn their hearts to God perhaps initially by our example.

**The second point is judgement. ** If we see someone in what we believe to be error, as revealed by God, not by man’s judgement as was used by man on Job, then we must share with them our understanding of the Truth if the following three conditions all exist together. If anyone is missing then we must leave the correction to another. The conditions are: We must know that what we are to speak on is True. We must know that it is necessary for us to speak (will I improve or make worse the situation by speaking?) and thirdly we must be able to address the individual and the topic with LOVE. If we cannot say: Yes it is true. Yes it is necessary. Yes I can speak with love. Then say nothing and pray for God to assist the person.

We must always remind ourselves that God is Love, Truth, Merciful, Patient and Life Giving. When we love we must try to best abilities to be and do the same. If we do not try to correct with love we are not life giving nor loving. If we do try to share our faith by first living it and secondly by speaking of it to those who wish to hear are we being loving?
👍 Hello, you hit it right on the head. I stopped comming to this site because I was not treated by some, with love but anger. Jesus spoke to your insides to your heart not the outside with the sword, that’s how the Romans did it and we know from history they were wrong and unkind and chased other’s away to start their own religions in the world. Love of Christ Nancy God Bless Your Kindness. I hope others can see Jesus in you as I do .

sorry atta, the act of dunking in water doesnt remake you, as in born again.

hi real. i was rite with you till mentioned unerring catholic church. have you seen the news in the last few yrs?
Oh goodness. Let’s all do a little thinking for a second here. We Catholics do say that the Church is in fallible, yes. However, we do not mean that its infallible in her actions. Rather, the Church is infallible when she declares that the faithful must hold to a certain teaching on morality or doctrine. Again, not in her actions.

It is not a 'blame" it is a credit! He is the Head of the Body! Catholic teaching comes from Him.

It appears that you are ill informed about the nature of the gift of infallibility. 🤷

Given that, I can understand why it seems unfamiliar.

Infallibility has nothing to do with “how humans behave”. Infallibility is Jesus protecting those humans who tend toward misbehaving from making mistakes. It is more the REASON that this gift is essential.

You can stop now(since you are wrong). Go to the Library, and do a little study, then we can talk. 😃
Are you giving him the bums rush! You should go to library and look up LOVE,PATIENCE,FORGIVENESS,JESUS,DOMINATION,HOSPERTALITY,SELF RIGHTOUSNESS,POMPUS,AND AWARENESS.I GIVE YOU THIS IN LOVE:) Nancy

It is obviouse that johnpaul wannabe is refusing to hear anything and is not going to be straight and give up the smart alic behavior. I prapose that everyone disregards any of his posts as if he is not here! It might possible make him consider taking this more seriousely!

*hey ben, i dont mean to get off the subject, but your tone sounds familiar. i cant put my finger on it. but it might come to me. maybe im just imagining things.so ben, when was the last time you cracked a bible? *
You know how I know that you are not Christian? Because you “crack” the Bible. We Christians treat it with respect.
*KJV, i mean.paul thought he was doing god a favor by jailing and killing born again folks.he was a member of the big religion of his day. sound familiar? he wasnt saved on the road to damascus. but you know that, being a big scholar. he was led to christ by some scared to death saved dudes once he got in town.paul then accepted jesus as lord.like i said, if you arent born again, you can read the bible millions of times and not see one thing. *
And if he did not have the road to Damascus experience he would not have got himself baptized.
