No God would punish me regaurdless of who I kill. (Unless he Josheph Smith was trying to kill me first then it would be self-defense)
I see.
I know, you probably weren’t thinking all that through when you wrote your post, and were just speaking generally…but the problem is, this isn’t a hypothetical situation. A mob of 200 men in black face attacked the jail in order to murder four men they thought were unarmed. They killed two of them and severely wounded another.
I suppose that those members of the mob who, after blackening their faces, running up the steps in squads of twenty, attempting to get into the room where Joseph and Hyrum were imprisoned, shooting through the door and killing Hyrum…why they were perfectly justified, weren’t they, because after Hyrum was killed, Joseph shot at them?
And oh, my goodness.
Joseph, after Hyrum was killed and his own small gun misfired, went over to the window and stood there, drawing fire away from the other two men in the room: one who had been shot several times and had been shoved under the bed, and the other who was attacking all these men acting in self defense with his walking stick. Joseph’s ruse worked; the mob stopped shooting at the other men in the room and concentrated on Joseph. He stood there, asked for help from his Masonic brethren (which of course he didn’t get) and after being shot a couple of times, fell out of the window. Why, of course the men on the ground were then justified in sitting him up against the wall while he still lived and used him for target practice—I believe the phrase is ‘shot to doll rags.’
After all, they were just defending themselves. Joseph could have hurt them when he fell out of the window.
Ah, well. As long as you would only kill him in self defense, that’s all right.
See, here’s the problem: Joseph, until that night, never aimed at, much less SHOT at, another human being. He never did kill anybody; though three mob members were shot, none died. For that matter, at least one of those that WERE shot, it seems, got shot by one of their own. Stuff like that happens when you put twenty idiots firing guns in a six foot square landing and a switch back stair case.
So in order to set up the scenario of ‘self defense,’ you would have had to be a member of the mob. Joseph didn’t shoot at anybody else.
And now I hear words like 'blazing gun battle" and “self defense”
Makes me a little crazy. :whacky:
Can you tell?
