As for the perpetrators, I’d say a very short sample of jail, a bit of probation (vandalism and assault) and garnished wages until the repair costs are repaid should do.
They seem to be getting some jail time. As of this morning, they still hadn’t made bail so they have spent two nights in jail so far.

You are correct that the raw footage does help put the cardinal’s comments into perspective. It also explains why they chose him as a target. It was not because they would get the best press as some have claimed. One of the protesters mentions (both in the Church and outside) the killing in Iraq and Cardinal George having lunch with (meeting with) President Bush.
I dunno… lots of people have lunch with George Bush. And if this were truly the motivating factor (as opposed to simply an excuse) wouldn’t they have taken action sooner, rather than pick such a high profile opportunity?

I still disagree that applauding/thanking the protestors for their action is a Christian response. It makes sense to be thankful for someone rebuking/admonishing you for something you have done, as St. Paul did. It doesn’t make sense to thank them for being disruptive to Mass and spewing protests to the wrong people. That just incourages idiocy.
The idea is not that one is praising their action, but rather that one is “giving thanks in all things” (as Paul would exhort) and “praising God in afflictions.” Or, as Jesus, himself, suggested, “Blessing those who curse you.” In God’s Providence, all is gift and to be thankful for, somehow.

One of the best examples I have ever witnessed of this sort was that of Congressman Henry Hyde during the Judiciary Committee hearings on Bill Clinton’s impeachment. They were extremely heated, but no matter how much he was having to deal with in frustration, attack, whatever (and no matter how obviously seething he was because of it) he determinedly and sincerely kept offering nothing but gratitude and thanks to everyone around him. It went far beyond protocol, gentlemanliness, or statesmanship. It was true Christian witness and could have come from nowhere else.

The cardinal’s comments were cut of the same cloth.

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;” I Peter 2:9

I can respect that you are against the war in Iraq. But my feeling is you can’t say “Down with Bush” or “Bring our troops home” with the same breath you make a statement “But I support the troops”. These people just hate their country. Most of the “peace” protesters are well know communists and they could care less about the troops. These are the same hippe 60’s rejects that spit on the troops that came home from Nam. They make me sick. Now, you are against the war, fine. Im against war too. But we in Iraq now and we need to win this. Alot of good news from Iraq is not getting to us and the media wants us to fail. Anyway, you’ll see these same people protesting global warming next week. And it’s all the evil americans fault. :mad:

I don’t think thats his point.

Why did they do this? Isn’t the Church very critical of the Iraq War???
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
But the Church has also said we as Americans must be responsable for the mess we’ve made in Iraq and clean it up. That does not follow the Party line of Get-out now. It’s an attempt at intimidation that’s what it is. Ok in my opinion, that’s what it is
Peace be with you

No, you are mistaken.You have not read my posts or you would not write such things. They do need to receive the consequences for their crimes but these are not the actions of adults. If you are not your brother’s keeper, congratulations. You are the first person in human history who is not.

CDL
See this is what really gets me on these boards if you post something that is in disagreement with someone, then you get accused of something else.
Because I disagree with you means I am not my brothers Keeper, and yes Adults commit these incidents all the time. Because YOU say they are not adults, then that settles it?🤷
