Chik-fil-A Stands Up for Traditional Marriage

Really? How does the movie theater pay for the film?
I have a close friend whose son wrote the scripts for several movies, most notably The Day the Earth Stood Still, and I suppose that I could ask about how movie distribution is handled, but I think that it is the studio that determines where a film will be shown and what the cost of that will be to the movie chain.

I’m pretty sure that it’s not up to the cast of the movie.

I’d be interested in taking a look at the proof you have that the money doesn’t go to the cause.
If you want to give money to the fight to keep traditional marriage, donate to a political action committee or organization dedicated to the cause. Chic-Fil-A is a corporation, they use their money to continue to expand and continue to make more money. Is every dollar I spend there going to support whatever views the owner has?

Steve Jobs was a well known democrat and Obama supporter, are there any Republicans reading this on a Mac right now? Will you return your computer and other Apple products now? The whole idea of it is silly.

Yeah, whatever…

Anyway, ate there last night (Appreciation Day). Lines out the door. Drive through line went on “forever”. I waited for and hour and it was well worth it. Once or twice everybody broke out in applause for Chick-Fil-A and their employees. Nobody got impatient. Everybody helped find an open order-taker and called out names for pick ups to move things along. It was the same all over the D.C. area. The crooked mayor of D.C. should take note before he starts flapping his gums and joining the wrong band wagon.

I only pray that this many people show up Friday to counter the “Kiss a Chick” protest.

And Rich accused righties of not having a sense of humor. Who’s the wet blanket now?😊
Read my post 744, where Iamrefreshed said that he was a bit amused at my frustration. See how I responded to that - I hope with a bit of tension-relieving humor.

If I had a Chick-fil-A near me, I would go on that day and ignore the kissers.
This is part of the gay rights stuff I don’t get. If heterosexual couples went into any resaurant and started making out, they would probably be asked to leave. Nothing wrong with public displays of affection, but when it is taken grossly out of context to prove a point, it goes beyond a display of affection to using affection to make a political point, at which point it stops being a display of affection and becomes political speech. Just as privately owned business have a right to tell political solicitors to leave, Chick Fil A would have reasonable grounds to ask people who visit their restaurant who behave inappropriately to leave, particularly if they are not partonizing the facility. No one has a “right” to sit in a private restaurant and make out with their partner and refuse to patronize the place.

Now, that said, I don’t know if the LGBT folks are going with the intent to patronize the restaurants myself. I would assume not, since they don’t want to cause the company to reap “evil profits”.

Favorite movie ever! I’m sure your friend donated the script, because the studios didnt have any money to pay him, what with the ticket profits only going to the theatres. Thank him for his selfless generosity of his time.

Wasn’t Paul Newman pro-abortion? How do we know that some of the charity money didn’t go to killing babies? After all, charity is not necessarily a magic word. It might mean money going to the Ku Klux Klan, the Church of Satan, or the Democratic Party.

Hold up. Actors’ compensation has no relation to ticket sales? Really? So, if people don’t go to the movies, the actors still get paid? Cool gig. Um…how do the studios afford to pay the actors and crew?
Headline actors are usually given large contracts based on the anticipated revenues of the film. Some savvy actors will negotiate a lower up front payment in return for a portion of the total ongoing profits of the movie. By and large, it is a gamble that the producers take. They are betting on a blockbuster. Sometimes, the gamble risk is small for established franchises, like Ironman and The Avengers. Sometimes the producers take it in the shorts, like Battlefield Earth.

I’ll get the information from my friend. Some cast salaries are guaranteed regardless of profits received. Sometimes even the actors put up money. Some time ago, I provided Christine with a copy of The Way, a 2010 American drama film that was a collaboration between Martin Sheen and his son Emilio Estevez to honor the Camino de Santiago and promote the traditional pilgrimage. (I hope she’s viewed it! It is a good Catholic film and I hope others have seen it, too.) What happened was that they ran out of money, and his other son, “bad boy” Charlie Sheen put up the rest of the costs of production out of his own pocket. 🙂

Financing films is a complex subject. 😉

Paul Newman was a prototypical hollywood lib. 🤷

He did put his money where his mouth is and donates all of the proceeds of his “Newman’s Own” products to charities…charities that support liberal causes, but at least he is using the free market and not demanding more of the taxpayer.

He was paid $500,000 for his script. Apparently, they did have the money to pay him.

He also wrote the script for The Last Castle with Robert Redford and James Gandolfini.

I plan on seeing The Way this weekend. And yes, Carlos Estevez bailed out his father and brother, quite unexpectedly. God works in funny ways.

Oh, that’s right…magic and profit fairies. I forgot.

They got the money from ticket sales! Duh!!! Heck, back then they didn’t even have DVDs and such. Where else did you think their profits came from? Donations?

Sure. But, overall, the profits come from the viewing public. Profits from ticket sales from successful films are what produced the funds for flop films.

Silly, Republicans do not own MACS. 😃

‘Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day’ sets record, restaurant chain says
The chain said it won’t release sales numbers, but “we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day,” said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A’s executive vice president of marketing.

PLEASE DO SO! You’ll be rewarded. Also rent “There be Dragons” about Josemaría Escrivá. Another solidly and well made Catholic film.

My goodness, what a pathetic explanation! I guess they’re not supposed to pay their overhead. You might as well say that someone is a witch, and they must provide proof that they are not, otherwise, they are guilty as you charge them. In other words, you did not prove your accusation.
