If we allow ourselves to hear the Holy SPirit, we will repent of that sin, strive to do better, and keep working out our salvation with fear and trimbling (a little Paul action for you).

If not, if we stay persistant in our failures, we will be lost.
Don’t worry my friend, because God is behind our working out our salvation with fear and trembling.

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

It’s interesting that most of you would rather discuss the Roman Catholic Church instead of the living God. Jesus Christ is at the right hand of the Father interceeding for those who are Christians.
A further misrepresentation of what you see here.

You ask a question and when we give you the answer, you want to deride us. Yeah…you’re a real honest poster.

They too need to understand that the Christ found in the Bible is everything to the true believer.
they know it, but is it enough? seems the Bible isn’t enough for them, according to us, because they do not believe in what we believe in, though they have the Bible…so there must be something other than the Bible, which is the community who gave this Bible through apostolic tradition.

I think we need to make the point that the Scriptures, the church, and the law points us to Jesus Christ.

If you met someone who lived all Jesus’s teachings except one, would you not insist that they work harder on the one?

Doing so wouldn’t mean you think that one teaching is more important than Christ himself, would it?

If you think we always think about the Catholic Church more than Christ, you’re wrong. Exploring other threads on this site could reveal this. You’ll find we are quite passionate about Jesus as well 😉
Which lines up very very well with the teachings of the letters to the angels of the churches in revelation doesn’t it.

The problem here is that this guy (who IMO is unworthy of the name of the noble Underdog! :p) doesn’t know what the heck he’s talking about as far as Catholic teaching and is just slinging the term “Treasury of Merit” , “Treasury of Merit”. And then refusing to even try to get the info that he claims he wants.

He must be here from CARM or one of the other a-C forums where they seem to think this kind of thread is a good one. One reason that I don’t post there…

I believe Jesus Christ is everything for the Christian. All of the unsearchable riches are found in Christ. All of the promises are yes in Christ. I am confused why the Catholic Church is so important to Catholics when Christ is everything to the Christian. Do you want to help me understand why the Catholic Church is so important to Catholics when our life is hidden in Christ?
This doesn’t answer you question about the CC, but as a Christian Christ is not everything…you also have access to the Father.

I think we need to make the point that the Scriptures, the church, and the law points us to Jesus Christ.
i have the feeling you aren’t catching what am saying 🙂 they already know this but they deny the most important, which means scriptures by themselves are not enough because anyone can twist them, any scriptures and any book can be twisted that is why the people who passed down this book and who held apostolic teachings are the reference, not because *they *are important, but because that’s what Jesus left us in terms of preaching.

Thank you for you’re continual participation on this thread. I really like your screen name of inJesus. Paul writes the same way as being in Christ. What do you mean by being in Jesus?

Underdog, underdog… didn’t you watch the cartoon as a kid? Lord willing, I will see you tomorrow.

Catholics will say they have both Christ and the Church. However they talk as if they do not know Christ.
Calumny is a SIN,friend. You are bearing FALSE WITNESS.For the sake of your soul, stop it!When you employ obvious falsehoods you are a VERY poor witness for Christ.

3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats. which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth."

Verse 3 is/was done by the RCC, so Paul’s prophetic warning could be said to apply to it; at least against its claim of always being the pillar of truth.
Nope. You need to understand what a discipline is. It is the current ‘‘discipline’’ of the catholic church that those called to a vocation do not marry. In imitation of Christ Himself. However, the Catholic Church does actually have married priests  :yup: Converts to the faith who were married pastors in their original denomination.

Didn’t Christ Himself fast??? Bit of an epic fast too wouldn’t you agree???

The Catholic Church forbids no meat or food whatsoever.

It does, however, suggest as a discipline, that the faithful fast and do penance at certain times of the year. It is a diiscipline, and good for the soul.

Nobody is able to do the will of the Father perfectly with the exception of Jesus Christ. That’s my whole point of the thread. Jesus is everything to the Christian because we do not walk in the will of the Father perfectly. Christ did not come to abolish the law, but to fufill the righteous requirement of the law for us. That is why we should love Christ more than our churches.
You are arguing directly against Christ, Who first spoke the word “church” in the bible, in Matthew 16. Christ founded His Church and desired that we all be one in it. Toward this goal Christ, Who is everything, fervently prayed to the Father that we be one. We cannot be “one” in Him if we are all separated.

Are you opposed to “organized religion”? Please realize that the alternative is disorganized religion - directly against the teaching of Christ, Who is everything.

Hello! Your question was about the Church. 🤷
You post Biblical quotes which prove against your point. You asked for help in understanding but refuse to actually read or respond to post which you cannot refute. I am amused.

Yet ANOTHER thread, started by a disgruntled Protestant, who has no other motive than to smear Roman Catholics, and bash Catholicism when they clearly have no understanding of what the Catholic Church is, or what she teaches. I do not need, nor wish, to see your proof texts taken out of context to somehow “prove” the One True Church is in error. It is not. The error you see is based on misconceptions, half-truths, and outright lies. I know this because I swallowed them for years. If you open your eyes, you will see that the Church teaches the fullness of truth, and has an authority found in the Scriptures, an authority not granted the Scriptures themselves. I recommend you stop your anti-Catholic witch-hunt, and read some of the articles available on Catholic Answers, and maybe, just maybe, you can learn about the Church you hate. It was Archbishop Fulton Sheen that said, “There are not a hundrend people who hate that Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they think the Catholic Church is”
Right you are CW. We all take time and effort to answer his question which he really doesn’t want answered. He just wants to prove his point however invalid it may be. He quotes scripture that actually goes against what he is trying to say. One needs a clear understanding and interpretation of scripture to use it to make a point. Underdog you have failed to make your point.

Oh…kay. :ehh:

This just got even more ironic. underdog complains that we talk more about the church than Christ when we’re asked about the church. And then there’s a comic strip character which are the sole focus of some of these posts…

The “U” stands for my vital union with Christ!

Alive in Christ

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him - Col 2

Why is Christ everything to the Christian? Here is a good verse to reflect upon today regarding Jesus Christ. What a mighty God the we have who sent His only Son into our sin curse world to suffer and die on our behalf. God demonstrated His love for us, that while we were His enemies, Christ died for us (Christians).

**But the LORD was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief;
If He would render Himself as a guilt offering,
Isaiah 53 - NASBS **

isn’t it what He wants? to be one in Him? if you say that we can be one without following a specific “church”, and that we can follow Him each in his own way, regardless of the “correct understanding” of “everything”, then i agree with you because Jesus encompasses everthing but if you want to make sure you understand the correct teachings as passed down by the apostles, then we cannot be all correct. So it depends on your approach .

Regarding my name InJesus, am not sure it means one thing or another since to be In Jesus envolves life itself 🙂
