I find it hard to believe this is even a punishable offense.
Actually from what I know about Islam(which I admit is not a lot), Shar’ia Law says that IF someone is raised in a Christian or Jewish family then they can remain Christian or Jewish, becase they consider them “people of the book”, but if a Muslim converts to any religion, even Christianity or Judaism then they must be killed, and it’s considered an “honor killing”.

Ah, I see…

Portents of things to come here in America methinks. The process has already started with Obama and the Healthcare mandate IMHO.

I’d like a Muslim to show us where Allah’s mercy is in this law.
Probably the same place where Christ advocates child abuse by Priests- nowehere. The reason is that both of these dynamics are sinful actions by individuals and not part of a larger faith. 🤷

Fixed it for ya.

False analogy.

If the Magisterium either approved of child abuse, or cover-ups of abuse by priests, or even the works of saints calling for the abuse or cover-up, you would have a point.

The death penalty for apostacy is supported by authoritative hadiths, and many (if not all) of the major schools of jurisprudence (fiqh).

I wish I had a Quaran with me, I use to own one. I could show you the part I read that supports the killing of Christians and Jews. But they say that I shouldn’t take the translated Quaran seriously. They say you’ll only understand it fully if you read it in its original language.

The majority of imams and the vast majority of muslims do not approve of such actions.

It is a true analogy. Just as even, senior Churchmen, implicitly or explicitly approved of cover-ups, so a minority of muslims approve of immoral actions.

There is no magisterium of Islam. There is a huge continuum of belief. There are Wahabis and there are Dervishes. There are the legalistic and the mystical. There are mediecal traditionalists and there are muslims inculturated into modern culture.

People seek to vilify “them” and glorify “us” (white hats vs. black hats) because that is comfortable and is part of base human instinct. It’s easy, old as time, and one of the causes of millions of deaths through war and oppression.

It is not the way of the Holy Father and it is unbecomming of Catholics.

There are some spicy texts in the Bible as well, as I am sure you know.

Think a little harder. Take a little more time. . . . .

Islam is decentralized, but they do have authoritative works, and the schools of jurisprudence which decide on matters of law.

Now, if you can find the authoritative Catholic work that supports child abuse/coverups, or the major school of jurisprudence that opposes the death penalty for apostacy, we’ll be in business.

Sorry, but you are judging the OT with today’s lenses. Take a really good Bible study and you’ll find out what I mean. 🙂
