Agreed. Neither does one read any other serious text on any other academic subject (be it philosophy, science, or math) in a manner that is like fiction. As much as there were moments where I loved learning things, the pleasure is in of itself different from the pleasure of entertainment. Still, that doesn’t make one kind better than the other.The Bible is like a textbook, meant to be studies and learned from. When my textbooks are open I’m usually trying to learn or understand something (or more likely find a approximately similar example question to use as a guide for homework questions). When I’m reading fiction, it’s not for learning; I’m just laying back and enjoying the story (the plot mostly). Obviously, you don’t read the Bible like that.
