The Bible is like a textbook, meant to be studies and learned from. When my textbooks are open I’m usually trying to learn or understand something (or more likely find a approximately similar example question to use as a guide for homework questions :p). When I’m reading fiction, it’s not for learning; I’m just laying back and enjoying the story (the plot mostly). Obviously, you don’t read the Bible like that.
Agreed. Neither does one read any other serious text on any other academic subject (be it philosophy, science, or math) in a manner that is like fiction. As much as there were moments where I loved learning things, the pleasure is in of itself different from the pleasure of entertainment. Still, that doesn’t make one kind better than the other.

if you think harry potter is just books check out
harrypotter.scholastic.com/ and you can learn all the spells you want
satan is real
Yes, I’m sure a flash game that utilizes mouse clicks, puzzle-solving, and crude optical illusions is the same as invoking the name of Satan and asking for his dark blessing.

Seriously, do you tell the same thing to people who practice sleight-o-hand magic tricks?

Let’s get an estimate from the anti-HPers:

How many chil’run’s souls have been crushed by Evil since and because of the last HP movie? Best guess …

It really blows my mind that some people give evil so much press.

It’s a book…it’s fiction…

There isn’t a Jaberwocky coming to get you…🤷

to steal a phrase from the late Carl Sagan has said… its a demon haunted world for some people.

Well, I’m not a Harry Potter fan, have never read the book or seen the movies-but I think this priest is delusional at best, acting like the Taliban at worst.

I know certain people love to control what others think/read/etc. Scaring them by thinking that Narnia, Harry Potter and the like can lead to immoral activity might be fun to do, but think of better things to do with your time.

It seems to me that the paranoia and unhealthy obsession with the supernatural comes from this side, not the pro-Harry Potter side.
Nice post, Rascalking!

I wasn’t into Harry Potter for a while, but it wasn’t because of the ‘witchcraft’, the stories did not appeal to me. But thanks to my dearest friend, I am actually beginning to warm up to them 😃 Thank you Vampire Queen!

I only watched the first two movies, but I cannot wait to see the others now, and I cannot wait 'till “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” comes out, and maybe even my own story one day, if they decide to make a movie out of it!

Anyway, go J.K.Rowlling!!! sticks out tongue at the fanatics, playfully

I know, I know, I’m so satanic and malicious, just full of evil and cruelty. smiles

why is wicca the fastest growing religion today? for adults it fine they can tell the difference but if you have children you have to protect them.

Most sources say, by any meaningful way of measuring, that Islam is the fastest growing. This caveat:
By percentage growth the fastest growing religions in the world are the smaller religions. This is because with a smaller sample size, every additional adherent accounts for a higher percentage increase.
So its not like you’re about to be drowned in a sea of witches.

As a Wiccan, I’m not convinced we’re the fastest growing religion today. One of them, perhaps, but I also hear “none” is another fast growing category. At any rate, if we’re growing, it’s not because of Harry Potter. It’s because of churches that have grown so dogmatic that they seek to strangle creativity and fantasy and the celebration of magic that is life itself. People who come to Wicca hoping to live a Hogwarts fantasy life are very quickly disappointed. HP is about as realistic an avenue for recruiting for Wicca as crusader movies would be for Catholicism.

If you’re a parent and your child has the trouble distinguishing, then you only have yourself to blame. The ability to know fact from fiction is one of the most basic in every sane human being. It’s plain old common sense for crying out loud.

Fantasy Witchcraft =/= Real Witchcraft

I just said Wingardium Leviosa. My PSP didn’t fly.

Let’s try something much darker.

I just said Imperio. Hrrm… nope, the guy arranging books a few feet away from me isn’t doing anything I have willed.

Okay, how about spells not found in Harry Potter?

Oh admonishing melody, arise in the name of the Necromancer! Mystic Cage!!!

“Agite Tenebrae Abyssi, Ensis Incendens! Et Incendium Caliginis Umbrae Inimicitiae Destructionis Ultionis! Incendant et Me et Eum, Sint Solum Incendentes! Incendium Gehennae!!

Karyuu no… Houkou!!!

Nope. Library is still one piece. sighs Such a shame… >:\

Now, what were you saying about words opening doors and demons and stuff? o.O??
The spells not working just means you’re a Muggle. :whacky:

We saw HP 7 Part 1 yesterday at a 10 AM showing.

DH summed it up: “It was like they were reading off a checklist: OK, here’s the wedding scene, let’s move on to the forest scene, now we gotta get the icy pond scene going----”

I read the last book very recently. So my thought is that they have removed (deliberately, it seems) every Christian reference, and ripped the heart from the story.

I can’t believe how far we’ve sunk as a society and a species. We sat through about twenty minutes of trailers that were completely inappropriate for children, even though they were rated ‘for all audiences.’ I felt soiled.

I hate movies.

At least this latest HP venture wasn’t as bad as the fifth movie
