Agreed, I think this is definitely inappropriate.Well, I am in the Pacific Northwest - if they had done this at my parish I would have thought it was ridiculous and inappropriate. I can’t argue with Bill on this one…and besides, God IS a Yankees fan, thank you…![]()
Temporary anomaly God is alllowing; he is not condoning it. He is giving his Yankees time to refocus, regroup and rebuild, bigger and better than ever.Though these past few years He seems to be favoring the SF Giants, which I’m happy about)
Seriously, I think everyone prays for their team, don’t they? I do, honestly. I just assume the opposition is too. It’s so funny how many athletes (in all sports, domestic and around the world, soccer, for example) always cross themselves or look up to God during the game at critical points. You think he just sits there impartial? Maybe. But think about it: Praying that you win means you’re also praying the other side loses. If you think it’s okay to pray the Yankees win, why does it make it different for fans to pray that Seattle wins? Or the Cubs, for that matter? Now they are the ones who need prayers.![]()
I think they should have an annual World Cup. The more prayers from all over the world, the better. For years and years I have hoped to see England win the World Cup.

Absolutely horrible! And some clergy wonder why parishioners stop coming to Mass! I pray that God grants that pastor more understanding.
I don’t think Purgatory and Hades get ESPN…Seriously, I think everyone prays for their team, don’t they? I do, honestly. I just assume the opposition is too. For years and years I have hoped to see England win the World Cup.Will it happen in my lifetime or will I be viewing it from heaven/purgatory/hell??? Who knows. I hope I get to see it, where ever I am. Good question there, huh, why is God so mad at England? What did they do? I guess we’re getting off topic…
Winning a penalty shoot out. Especially if it’s England. What’s the equivalent for the Hail Mary Pass in soccer???
My family members have seen Tom Brady at Mass, maybe he prays for his own teamThis seems very inappropriate. It also could cause many people to question their faith after that great interception by Butler. Go Pats!
I really don’t think God is into soccer that much, He is more into boxing, It’s even biblical too, remember Jacob???Seriously, I think everyone prays for their team, don’t they? I do, honestly. Wouldn’t that be wrestling?I really don’t think God is into soccer that much, He is more into boxing, It’s even biblical too, remember Jacob???
You’re right, but it got us back into the subject, didn’t it?Wouldn’t that be wrestling?
Boxers don’t normally fight by striking or grabbing each others’ legs.
