I know I would be upset if my wife/mother were to belittle something I died fighting for.
Just what have all these Americans died for?

I think people are being mean to this woman. She lost her son, of course shes overemotional. She wants answers, she wants a reason why her son died. Im not going to get into whether the war is valid or not, but she is upset and wants answers. Did Bush meet with her before or after it was announced no WMDS were found. Once again, not a debate about whether the war is justified, but if she thinks the intelligence was flawed about the need to go to Iraq, she has a right to know.
Very well put, siamesecat. It saddens me that so many on the far right want to bash this poor woman. They worship Bush so completely that they can’t even show compassion for a mother grieving the loss of a beloved child. They search for, and repeat, every right wing talking point, no matter how slimey the source.

Here’s an interesting story I heard about the events in Crawford today. Some counter-protesters were mocking Cindy by “demanding that she meet with them.” She said no at first and then said that if any of them had lost a child in this war she would speak with them. One man from the Pro-Bush rally stepped forward and said that his son had been killed in Iraq. Mrs. Sheehan went to him and embraced him. He hugged her back and they both cried.

That’s what it’s about, folks. These are real people dying over there and they deserve some real answers.

I agree with your excellent post. Unfortunately, we’re only going to get lies and more lies from this war president. What Cindy Sheehan is doing is so courageous and I hope it’s just the beginning of the end to this war and this administration.

I don’t think those on the right should bash her. I’ve been critical of some of the things, but I’ve been careful not to bash this greiving mother.

I also, however, don’t think those on the left should hide behind her. I’ve heard many people use her grief as a weapon for their cause, but when criticized themselves they jump behind her grief saying “shame on you, don’t say that, she’s grieving.”

I think both sides should be dignified, not be uncharitable towards her, but not hide behind her either. I also would like to see both sides pray for God’s will–not theirs–to be done.

Blessings.

With all due respect and condolences to Mrs. Sheehan, where is the courage when no possible harm is going to come to her?

What our soldiers are doing – fighting murderous and suicidal terrorists – is truly courageous, and I hope its the beginning of the end to terrorism and al Qaeda (something far more dangerous than this war and this administration).

Well stated Jay. I have yet to bash her, but her own words (as I’ve posted) give me pause. I pray for her and the rest of Casey’s family during their time of grief, but I especially pray for Casey and the other soldiers who have given their lives in service to their country. I also pray for our President and for peace.

God Bless,

Robert

Anti-war protestor Cindy Sheehan, whose soldier son Casey was killed in Iraq, is calling for Bush’s “impeachment,” and for Israel to get out of Palestine!
“You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you’ll stop the terrorism,” Sheehan declares.
Sheehan, who is asking for a second meeting with President Bush, says defiantly: “My son was killed in 2004. I am not paying my taxes for 2004. You killed my son, George Bush, and I don’t owe you a penny…you give my son back and I’ll pay my taxes. Come after me (for back taxes) and we’ll put this war on trial.”
“And now I’m going to use another ‘I’ word - impeachment - because we cannot have these people pardoned. They need to be tried on war crimes and go to jail.”
The 48-year-old California mom remains tented up in a ditch along the one-lane road that leads to Bush’s Texas ranch.

With deepest condolences to Mrs. Sheehan, losing her son doesn’t qualify her to order Israel out of Palestine, nor does it give her a license not to pay taxes.

Her thoughts to impeach Bush are her opinion which I’m not going to argue for or against.

My wife and I have been praying for Mrs. Sheehan.

Well…good luck on not paying taxes and not having the IRS come after you for back taxes…

Courgeous??? In what way?

Yesterday she called for the elimination of Israel and the imeachment of Bush. And yet the left would have us believe that becuase her son(who evidently vehemently disagreed with her on the war on Iraq) was killed in action she should be above reproach.

She is using her son to get herslef as much pubicity for her far left wing views as she can. Its sad. I suspect that given her commnets of the last few days you will see all but the moobat wing of the Democrat party backpedallng away from this lady…

No, the media is still reporting Cindy Sheehan is waiting for her meeting with President Bush, making it seem like she never met him before.

You think the MSM would mention, on their own, her radical views? I don’t put that much faith in them. And if the media does not report it, the Dems will stay with her.

The left is using her, no doubt, but I dont think shes doing it for political views and attention and she doesnt care for her son. Thats awful! Shes distraught over the loss of her son, and is trying to figure out why, and she is probably very angry and does want negative news coverage for Bush. I think her behavior is understandable and I dont believe she’s a nutcase or trying to dishonor her son.
Her son died over a year ago. I would think the grieving process would have progressed somewhat. She needs to get a grip.

Intresting isnt it. Why wasnt the man who supported the war and lost a son given the same treatment by the MM as Cindy Sheehan has? Where are the interviews with him? Or is that becuase he supports Bush his views dont matter?

BTW-there are now more SUPPORTERS of Bush and more parents who lost sons who SUPORT Bush in Crawford than there are protestors against him. Where is the coverage of them?

I don’t care about Cindy Sheehan’s politics. Each person must find his or her own way through the grieving process, and Mrs. Sheehan seems to be having a rough time of it. I won’t bash her, but I do have problems with those on both sides of the aisle who are using her to promote or discredit certain views.

She appears troubled, and we should pray for her. That is a Christian response.

I urge everyone to read the public statement that Cindy Sheehan issued on August 11. I’m transcribing it below from the following link:

huffingtonpost.com/theblog/archive/cindy-sheehan/this-is-george-bushas-a_5472.html

Here’s the statement:

***"This is George Bush’s accountability moment. That’s why I’m here. The mainstream media aren’t holding him accountable. Neither is Congress. So I’m not leaving Crawford until he’s held accountable. It’s ironic, given the attacks leveled at me recently, how some in the media are so quick to scrutinize–and distort–the words and actions of a grieving mother but not the words and actions of the president of the United States.

"But now it’s time for him to level with me and with the American people. I think that’s why there’s been such an outpouring of support. This is giving the 61 percent of Americans who feel that the war is wrong something to do–something that allows their voices to be heard. It’s a way for them to stand up and show that they DO want our troops home, and that they know this war IS a mistake… a mistake they want to see corrected. It’s too late to bring back the people who are already dead, but there are tens of thousands of people still in harm’s way.

"There is too much at stake to worry about our own egos. When my son was killed, I had to face the fact that I was somehow also responsible for what happened. Every American that allows this to continue has, to some extent, blood on their hands. Some of us have a little bit, and some of us are soaked in it.

"People have asked what it is I want to say to President Bush. Well, my message is a simple one. He’s said that my son–and the other children we’ve lost–died for a noble cause. I want to find out what that noble cause is. And I want to ask him: ‘If it’s such a noble cause, have you asked your daughters to enlist? Have you encouraged them to go take the place of soldiers who are on their third tour of duty?’ I also want him to stop using my son’s name to justify the war. The idea that we have to ‘complete the mission’ in Iraq to honor Casey’s sacrifice is, to me, a sacrilege to my son’s name. Besides, does the president any longer even know what ‘the mission’ really is over there?

"Casey knew that the war was wrong from the beginning. But he felt it was his duty to go, that his buddies were going, and that he had no choice. The people who send our young, honorable, brave soldiers to die in this war, have no skin in the game. They don’t have any loved ones in harm’s way. As for people like O’Reilly and Hannity and Michelle Malkin and Rush Limbaugh and all the others who are attacking me and parroting the administration line that we must complete the mission there–they don’t have one thing at stake. They don’t suffer through sleepless nights worrying about their loved ones.

"Before this all started, I used to think that one person couldn’t make a difference… but now I see that one person who has the backing and support of millions of people can make a huge difference.

"That’s why I’m going to be out here until one of three things happens: It’s August 31st and the president’s vacation ends and he leaves Crawford. They take me away in a squad car. Or he finally agrees to speak with me.

"If he does, he’d better be prepared for me to hold his feet to the fire. If he starts talking about freedom and democracy–or about how the war in Iraq is protecting America–I’m not going to let him get away with it.

“Like I said, this is George Bush’s accountability moment.”***

[End of Cindy Sheehan’s statement]

Tomorrow, which will be the solemnity of the Assumption (a holy day that honors another grief-stricken mother who lost her son to state-sponsored violence), please attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass to honor the Mother of God and to pray for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. Since the message of Our Lady of Fatima tells us that war is a punishment for sin, please include this intention: that the horror of legalized abortion will be ended in our country and throughout the world.

In addition, please participate in demonstrations that are planned for tomorrow to manifest solidarity with Cindy Sheehan. In New York, the demonstration will begin in Union Square at 5 P.M.

Keep and spread the Faith.

ditto. pray that our boys be kept safe and will return home knowing that they leave behind them a stable and working nation.
