*Antiwar.com *publishes news reports and columns written from a broad spectrum of perspectives: “left-wing,” “right-wing,” “libertarian,” and indiscernible.

Among its contributors are Congressman Ron Paul (one of the most “conservative” members of Congress), Paul Craig Roberts (assistant secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan administration), and Pat Buchanan (who needs no introduction).

Man, if you think those guys are lefties, then you and I aren’t living on the same planet. 😃

But please don’t take my word for it. Read *Antiwar.com *for a few days, and make your own judgment. I’d like to see your reaction.

I agree. Antiwar.com is an invaluable source of information. 👍

She’s a really convenient shield for a lot of people. They throw out accusations, criticisms, and insults–rational or irrational–with no apparent restraint. But when anyone who is critical in return, there is a chorus of “Shame on you! she’s grieving! restrain yourself!”
You mean like the war apologists, who tell those of us who oppose the war in Iraq that we’re “undermining the morale of the troops”, or “giving aid and comfort to the enemy”? Therefore, we should shut up?

I know emotions can run high, but we Catholics at least ought to resist the tempatation to act like the Clinton attack machine and its minions, when anyone bringing any accusation against Clinton had their character assaulted in the process.

MY contempt is for the right-wingers who despise the woman for not thanking Mr. Bush for sending her son to his death.
Well, something new has been interjected into this conversation.

Perhaps you could elucidate a little; Pray tell, who are these right-wingers despising her for not thanking Bush? Have you names?
Richadols:
Sure. Anyone who grieves that his or her son was killed in Iraq is dishonoring the country, but especially the leadership, that sent him there. If you’re not for George Bush, you are for Al Qaid’ah.
That so? How about those who grieve for their sons and daughters wothout palying a political card? How about those who deeply grieve the loss, and understand that lives are lost in war - that is sort of the basic, bottom line of what it is all about - but don’t play a political card?

there have always been those who, upon losing a family memeber in a war, have blamed the political leaders, whther or not the war was just, or porper, or supported by the great majority, or not.

I haven’t met too many people who lost family members in WW2 who didn’t, and still don’t grieve their loss. But they don’t blame Roosavelt. I have met those who grieve the loss of family members from Viet Nam, but they don’t blame Eisenhower, who set the base, or Kennedy, who sent troups; they might blame Johsnos, but more for how he handled the war once he was president, not for being invollved in it.

That’s french for “that’s not a bad idea.” She’s just being cute–i’m sure she means no offense. 😉

I think this woman is going too far. She has aligned herself with far left political groups and uses Michael Moore’s website to post anti-Bush messages. She is making foreign policy statements - Israel out of Palestine. She arrives on the scene in a bus decorated with the words “Impeach President Bush.” She has done a commercial calling the president a liar. She is using the loss of her heroic son for political gain.

While I am truly sorry for anyone’s loss, especially in the throes of war, I cannot let people claim immunity to criticism by cloaking their true agenda in a play for pity. She has taken her grief and held it up like a shield, deflecting anyone’s criticism of her outrageous statements and actions. She is using this grief as her own personal get-out-of-jail-free card. Let’s remember that she has already had her meeting with President Bush and came away with nothing but good words about the president and his genuine care for the soldiers and families of people who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Seeing all of the left-wing groups she has aligned herself with, it is very easy to see why she has changed her story.

Yes, this woman is grieving for her son. She will grieve for him the rest of her life. That is all the more reason not to corrupt her son’s memory and heroic actions by performing this sideshow each day.

That’s the way I see it.

Shame on you… she is dishonoring her son and her family. :tsktsk:

Snicker:
Shame on all of you!! Everyone of you who say this woman is dishonering her son. She speaks the truth about the immorality and illegalityof this war and all you can say is she dishoners her son. Atleast she has the courage to speak the truth about this war, which most of you can’t stand. You want to pretend we are in some holy crusade against evil when it is America that is commiting evil every single day. You simply ignore the facts that we were lied to about the reasons for this war. YOU CAN’T STAND THE TRUTH! It makes you uncomfortable. I bet the Sermon on The Mount makes you want to pull your hair out!

I urge all open-minded readers of this thread, especially those who are pro-war, to sample Antiwar.com by reading the current columns by these three “lefties”: Pat Buchanan, Justin Raimondo, and Paul Craig Roberts:

At Mass today, the solemnity of the Assumption, please pray for this intention: that the Bush administration will refrain from attacking Iran, which would make a horrendous situation even worse.

Keep and spread the Faith.

Seems to me you you are praying that your will be done-NOT God’s will be done. Personally i dont ask God to promote my political views-I trust him to get it right.

I agree…I am pro-peace. Just because I support our troops in Iraq and their efforts to bring democracy, peace and stability to this region of the world does not make me a war monger. I wish the insurgents would stop being “pro-war”.

WOW-this women attracts moonbats for all sides of the political spectrum. Now David Duke has announced his support her! wizbangblog.com/archives/006759.php

Of course David Duke, as with much of the far left, is anti-semetic, so it is no suprise he supports her call for the elimination of Israel.

Of course those who vocally oppose the war are undermining the morale of the troops and aiding and abetting the enemy. The lesson the enemy learned from Somalia is that the United States is weak and will not tolerate high casualties and will withdraw if the casualties get high enough. The ranting of Moore, Sheehan , Dean and the anti-war left reinforce this belief. They embolden the enmey who thinks that the more Americans they kill the more likely it is that we will unilaterally withdraw.

In addition the message the left is sending the troops is that they are involved in a illegal, immoral war. They are being told that their sacrifice is in vain and that their friends who have died fighting the war died in vain. Now tell me-how would that NOT undermine the morale?

Pope John Paul II was originally correct in warning us not to get involved in the first Gulf War. It is not wise for us to get entangled in the affairs of Muslims, especially when our help is seen as imperialism. Once we got involved, we were essentially trapped. Trapped to protect the Shiites and Kurds in the no-fly zone, trapped to go to war when Saddam broke the cease-fire agreement, now we are trapped to protect the Iraqi civilians being killed by a bunch of gangs, terrorists, vigilantes, and the rest. If a cease-fire agreement is not worth the paper it’s printed on, what credibility would we have. And how can we abandon the Iraqi people now. Anyone who says the American presence is the reason for the violence is only kidding themselves. Watch the Godfather and ask yourself if the government and the cops were to blame for the violence, being in the mafia neighborhood and all. There is a seen power vacuum in Iraq and there are many factions (terrorist including) who are trying to vie for local, regional or national power.

But that is neither here nor there with the Sheehan thing.

My question… did Sheehan actually say: “If George is not ready to send the twins, then he should bring our troops home immediately. We will demand a speedy withdrawal…”

dailykos.com/story/2005/8/4/94551/60876

My response: :confused: :hmmm::rolleyes:

I thought women were for the rights of women, not for forcing women to do something because their male parent forces them to do it. Even worse, I did not know the army was accepting recruits that were compelled to join.

I can see the recruiting office…

Recruiting officer - It is good to see that both you girls want to join the army
Bush Twins - we don’t want to join
Recruiting officer - then why are you here
Bush Twins - we are forced join because our dad is the president
Recruiting officer - is there a draft?
Bush Twins - no, you see, for the war in Iraq to be ok, both of us need to join
Recruiting officer - you are kidding, right?
Bush Twins - no, no joke. Left-wing loonies point out that the children of politicians are not in the military, but they fail to remember that the military is an all volunteer force.
Recruiting officer - it is. Volunteer meaning, you VOLUNTEER for the armed forces. You don’t join because you are forced to by some left-wing loonies. Now stop listening to them and get out of my office, you are wasting my time.

What? Muslims are not people too? We should not care? Where is this written in the Catechism?

That is nonsense. Just because her boy decided to go, doesn’t mean that the Bush twins must go. We don’t have a draft. My son volunteered, if he dies over there, I will not demand that Bush’s twins die (which seems to be what she is after here).

Come on, she has a right to grieve, but that doesn’t give her some greater moral insight into affairs of State, and this is a prime example (if true, but I don’t normally trust KOS).

*It is shameful the way the Left is using this distraught Mother. Her own family is now condeming her.

urbangrounds.com/2005/08/09/camp-casey/*

The Left has nothing to do with it. If you think that Pat Buchanan is “Left” then maybe you should find out what “Left” means. Not that Buchanan is using her. But who I ask you who is “using” her?

I only wish that Mrs. Sheehan would point the finger of blame for her son’s death squarely where it belongs. Right at the murderers who set off the IED that killed him. I believe her son is a hero, just as the other 1800+ who have given their lives for the freedom of the Iraqi people. I pray that the Iraqi forces will be trained soon so that our soldiers and marines can come home with their heads held high knowing that they were a part of something noble and positive. That said, I do think that it would have been better for all involved if President Bush had invited Mrs. Sheehan and Mrs. Sheehan alone (no reporters or entourage) to the ranch house to let her speak her mind as soon as he became aware she was at the gate. Perhaps, as an act of compassion, and recognition of her loss, he could have offered to pardon her for the tax liens that some in this forum have aledged to be held against her home. If he had done this immeadiately, it would have been viewed as an acto of compassion, but if he does it now it wll look like he is caving in.

In closing I pray for Mrs. Sheehan, that God may console her in her grief, for the President that he may be guided by Divine wisdom, and for all those serving in Iraq that they may come home soon after completing their mission.
