but popcorn is popping.Asked why it was so important to him that Trump not be reelected, Powell said that he thinks Trump has not been an effective president and that he lies "all the time."
Does he still qualify for that appellation? I don’t think he even claims to be a Repub anymore.Wait for the “RINO” comments.
In the NPR interview that I listened to from yesterday he was identified as a Republican.I don’t think he even claims to be a Repub anymore.
Identifying someone that criticizes Trump as a Republican makes Trump look bad to some people? News outlets get to run a story about a republican saying something bad about Trump? If not I don’t know why it matters.
It would be less easy to make a “news” story about a democrat not aproving of Trump. So if he were to identify as a Democrat, he would be more easily dismissed?
Yes, I think so too.I think we all know who Colin Powell is.
It isn’t the party of the cruise Republicans anymore. Both parties have changed drastically over the last few decades. Nowadays, the Repubs are more like the Dems of my youth. The Dems are more like the Rockefeller Repubs of yore for the most part, though they do have that far left segment. Then it isn’t the same party of the last Republican presidential candidate. Or two, or three.
I don’t think anybody really expects Powell to support Trump. It would be less easy to make a “news” story about a democrat not aproving of Trump.
You don’t remember him lecturing Republicans about affirmative action in 2000? I do.If Powell still claims to be a Republican, I would be surprised. He voted Obama, Clinton, is pro-abortion, is interventionist. I’m not sure what Repub positions he has.
That sounds akin to “no true Scotsman.”R-I-N-O: Republican In Name Only. Powell isn’t the only one.
