<<< I have seen your type also. It is called “more Catholic than the Pope”. >>>>>

Mal: Although this was directed at Michael - it remains an “attitude” of many in the Church who have decided to be judgemental of those who take a theological stand. To say that he is “more Catholic than the Pope” or to make the Statement that "Because Benedict has not opposed it and he is the Pope the Case is Closed " serves only to illustrate a fundamental ignorance of the Catholic Religion. Simply because something has been tolerated - that doesnt make it right either. Clearly the misinformation being spread that the normal method for recieving the Blessed Sacrament was by hand in the Ancient Church is erroneous. Do your due dilligence. You will find that this is not the case. Secondly - great Modern Theologians have expressed the concern that the DOGMA of the Real Presence is under assault TODAY. That J akin expresssed that only 30 % of modern Catholics believe in the Dogma of the Real Presence and that Dietrich Von Hildebrand - Respected by none other than Benedict himself - had predicted this would occur with the Advent of the Practise.

I find it disengenouous that these same proponents of CITH ignore these pertinent facts - seemingly care more for their own convenience than for the salvation of their neighbors soul and out of a spirit of pride - refuse to humble themselves at the communion rail.

Perhaps if we all took a deep breath and understood the problem presented by the lack of reverence for the Real Presence and what that means today - we could all look forward to Climbing Mass Attendance - more Vocations - a Spiritual rebirth within the Church - and a return to the Faith by those who err in their non belief of This Dogma. A lot is as stake that seemingly isnt being addressed.

The Blessed Sacrament is exactly that. Its high time all Catholics understood it.

No, actually I am a Catholic…but unlike some, I am a Catholic that actually knows and understands what The Church teaches…

That comment is a defense of my position and in no way directed to you or any other member of this forum…but I like how you have labeled me with a term that is usually reserved for Sede’s…thanks for the insult…if you ever read any of my post you would realize I am an ardent defender of The Pope, but unlike some people, I don’t deify him…I actually realize he is a human capable of error. God Bless
So who has deified the Pope? Not I,nor anyone else that I have read on this thread.

I am also a Catholic that actually knows and understands what the Church teaches. I do understand Papal infallibility, and I was not speaking of infallibility.

Do you think the Holy Spirit just leaves the Pope to willy-nilly make decisions? Do you not think he gives him extra graces of knowledge, wisdom, discernment?

Of course, the Pope is capable of error. But, if he is in error, I trust that the Holy Spirit will correct. In His time, not ours.

I will continue in obedience. (not BLIND obedience, but in trust)

Mal: Right back at you. You are making cogent points and I see some pretty below the belt comments coming your way as a resust IMO. They have no right to say those things in light of your content.

Great job - i am enjoying reading your commentary as well as the one by Brotherwolf and Lorimar. Make me realize that I am not alone in opposing that practice : )

Mal: Lots of “I” 's in this contribution. And just how will this Increase the Belief in the 70 % who no longer believe in the Real Presence? In fact - this is the reason we are in this position according to Dietrich Von Hildebrand. Perhaps in recieving we should think of the Two Greatest Commandments .

The Holy Gospel according to St Matthew

22:36. Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

22:37. Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart and with thy whole soul and with thy whole mind.

22:38. This is the greatest and the first commandment.

22:39. And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

22:40. On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.

In Holy Communion on the Tongue - both are realized. There is no “I” in these commandments.

Definitely…and when you counter their arguments with authentic Church teachings, or statements by Doctors of The Church, etc…then it is a matter of “their beliefs” or “their feelings” and I feel like I am being rude when I tell them that their opinions and feelings don’t really matter…it is what it is. And I also ask them, if the Church and the Pope isn’t capable of making mistakes…then how can they explain the Joan of Arc situation…one day heretic, next day saint…It is like John Kerry was in charge and they “flip flopped” on the canonization process.

Your second point overlooks the fact that a Permanent Deacon stays just as that - a Permanent Deacon. He is, however, just as much a Deacon as is someone preparing to be a priest.
I know one “Permanent” Deacon who was ordained a priest after his wife passed away.

But you’re right. The Permanent Deacon is just as much a Deacon as a Transitional Deacon. Holy Orders, Ordinary Minister of Communion, perform marriages, give sermons, recite the gospel, deacon or subdeacon at EF Solemn High Masses, etc.

I have seen your type, you want to prove just how Catholic you are, so you blindly accept everything that comes out of Rome as The Gospel…

And Michael’s post was not a “below the belt comment”?

I admit that I returned an insult with an insult, and I should have turned the other cheek. Mea culpa.

“Wherever I go in the whole world, the thing that makes me the saddest is watching people receive Communion in the hand.”

Mother Teresa of Calcutta in 1989, when asked, “What is the worst problem in the world today?”

The root cause of all these is of course the Vatican II. What’s next?

According to the Mother Teresa website, this is false. This is just one of the many quotes attributed to Mother Teresa that is false.

On November 1st, 1997, at the Call to Holiness Conference in Detroit, Michigan, there was a panel discussion in which Fr. John Hardon was one of the speakers who fielded various questions from the audience. One of the questions was about Communion in the hand. The following is the response of Fr. Hardon:

"We were at concelebrated Mass with the Holy Father, [saying Mass WITH / at the same time] and we were absolutely forbidden to give Communion in the hands. Communion in the hand, Communion in the hand began, in the hand, with the publication of the Dutch Catechism with nobody’s permission except the bishops—in effect, in principle separated themselves from the Holy See. One country after another began then to ask for permission, which the Dutch bishops never asked for, permission to receive Communion in the hand. I was asked by the bishops’ conference to write a defense of Communion on the tongue, and I can again talk for hours.

“In the very, very early Church, Communion was given in the hands. However, as the faith of the Christians weakened in the Real Presence, by the 5th, 6th centuries Communion on the tongue became mandatory—remained mandatory until the present century. Behind Communion in the hand—I wish to repeat and make as plain as I can—is a weakening, a conscious, deliberate weakening of faith in the Real Presence.”

Love and prayers that this practice be abolished.

More than any orther single reason; this practice is the cause of mass defections from the CC based essentially on the lack of belief and understanding of Christ Real Presense. I am also of the opinion that this is a primary cause for fewer vocations to the priesthood and fewer people going to Confession. [If anyone can give commuion, priest are not necessary for Confession. I’ll just go directly to God.]

**PEW Report 2008 **

1970 about 75% of self professed Catholics went to weekly Sunday an Holyday Mass
2008 this number had dropped to less than 25%

1970 same group on Confession about 65% went at least once per year
2008 This number has dropped to about 10%!

In CIH the only reason? Certainly NOT. Is it a primary reason? Absolutely!

While I no longer receive in the hand…it is only fair to note that COTT is not the norm in all Catholic Rites. There are Rites where CITH has always been the norm.

Since when does something have to be “in the Bible” before it is worthy of belief? As Catholics, we don’t just “strictly use” the Bible…Tweety, you should know this after all this time 😉
I am not stupid, of course I know. I do not agree with this, so i am a bad Catholic.

Well then clearly you must believe in The Pope, The Church’s power to forgive sins, the Hail Mary, etc…because all of that is found in The Bible 😉
You put my well I do in answer to you question and that is wrong. Use your own answer

This is a pretty strong statement that needs unequivocal references.
I believe that Christ passed the bread around. There is nothing to indicate he went to the remaining 11 and put it on the tongue.
