Well the Cardinals that are in the Roman Curia already know each other fairly well as they’ve spent years together and they’ve already been in Rome together since the announcement for a rather long time. Meanwhile, Cardinals like Cd. Dolan have been in their own dioceses, away from “all the action” in Rome so to speak, and will not have as much time to “form coalitions” and gain support behind their favorite candidates. That would be the way to analyze it politically I suppose.

Interestingly enough, I read a piece yesterday that said Cd. Bertone was quietly pushing for Cd. Dolan’s candidacy…of course, mere speculation…but an interesting tidbit.

God bless.

Would Cd Dolan even meet some of the desired attributes I am wondering? Not that I am not a fan, but first of all, they need someone who will have the ability to speak several languages. (or so I’ve heard) This seems to be pretty logical as to the number of Countries and Dignitaries he would be working with, but? Second of all, I believe they have always shied away from an American Cardinal stepping into the Seat of Peter.
I like Cardinal Dolan…he has plenty of charisma, and he’s only 63, but just as attractive, I believe is Cardinal Burke. He has been in Rome for a while, so he would at least know the ropes a little better, and he would know the insiders in the Vatican, and how to work with them. Time will tell. I’m praying for the Holy Spirit to do some heavy guiding. You can bet that the Blessed Mother has her hand in this.

Then we’re praying for different things. My prayer is that the Spirit be merciful to us, that He guides His conclave and purifies His Church. Whatever the outcome - I’m thinking all might not appear as we see fit! 😛
I’m thinking you hit the nail on the head.:p:D

Turns out that 12 cardinals did not make it to the meeting. So they won;t come to a decision/meet until all are present.

A few more arrived today, but they’re still waiting for a few. Until they are all there, they cannot set an earlier date for the conclave.

March 9th or 11th are looking less likely as starting dates.

But hey, I suppose it’s better for them to take their time and do things right than to cater to us who are impatient for a new pope. :o

Ugh… What are they waiting for??? In this day and age it should be easy to get to Rome. It’s not like they have to get there by donkey like in ye olden dayes…

I know… I’m impatient… sorry.

Well the 9th is for sure. They might still make the 11th if they set the date tomorrow. But if they miss that, whatever hope there might have been of getting the new Pope formally installed (as opposed to simply elected) before Easter is easily out the window.

I understand from CNN that there are 5 cardinals still to arrive. Some have meetings with bishops. Two are coming from Vietnam and Egypt, several are coming from Europe. The cardinals will not set a date for the conclave until all arrive.

We should also take into account the logistics of coming half ay round the world.

22 hour flights and all that.:o

It’s not like they didn’t know about this for the last 2 weeks. Let’s get this thing going already.

  1. Most of these men do not know each other. They need time to meet and get to know each other and discuss issues. This can only happen in these pre-conclave meetings as the conclave is ONLY for voting. It’s not for discussing issues. NEVER mind taking time to pray pray pray and discern.
2)The logisitics for getting the Sistine Chapel ready is no easy nor fast feat.
  1. Pray they get it right, not that they get it fast.
This will explain why this cant happen in a snap fashion (boy we 21st century people are way to used to microwave instant food, cell phones, texting, etc etc. We have lost the ability to be PATIENT. Lord, bless us with patience as You are so very patient with us. )

Go to the 22:00 mark for the discussion of why the cardinals are not in any way in a hurry.

👍 Yes patience is good for us. 🙂

haven’t heard anything from the Vatican itself so it is still wait and see[BIBLEDRB][/BIBLEDRB]

I am already biting my nails and they have not even started yet.

Cardinal Nycz scheduled to arrive today; Cardinal Pham to arrive tomorrow, bringing to full 115 electors expected
And they have decided to add an additional meeting tomorrow afternoon – once all the electors are finally there. So it’s possible we’ll know a date for the conclave tomorrow, but definitely not before then.

All in all – as much as I want things to move forward – I am glad the cardinals are taking their time and do not feel particularly obligated to hurry things along to satiate public curiosity. It will take as long as it takes.

“Gag order”. 😛 I don’t really like that choice of words. The cardinals are all equal and they have agreed to no more interviews.

I can understand their caution, even if it might seem a bit overkill.
Definitely overkill. The Italian press wasn’t getting their gossip from the Americans. Now they will just make stuff up and speculate like crazy.
