Don’t make it so complicated. The priest was doing his job and trying to make it easier for your daughter. If the sin doesn’t apply, which it obviously doesn’t in your daughter’s case, just tell her to ignore it. If she has further questions, speak directly to your daughter and answer those questions in the most appopriate way you know how with your own daughter. Don’t speak to the priest! He was doing his job! Sin is not, nor should it be, a topic of pleasant conversation. Next year, or two years from now (hopefully never), this sin may actually apply to your daughter. She is embarassed, doesn’t want to speak up in confession and guess what, the priest doesn’t ask based on his conversation with mom. Now she has an unconfessed mortal sin. Not good. Your objective is to make your daughter comfortable in confession not make the priest less so.
