The spin doctors remain at work, even in times of national emergency. Their initial denials endangered people who failed to appreciate the danger of the situation.

" A review of hundreds of hours of programming and social media traffic from Jan. 1 through mid-March — when the White House started urging people [to stay home and limit their exposure to others — shows that doubt, cynicism and misinformation about the virus took root among many of Mr. Trump’s boosters in the right-wing media as the number of confirmed cases in the United States grew.

It was during this lull — before the human and economic toll became undeniable — when the story of the coronavirus among the president’s most stalwart defenders evolved into the kind of us-versus-them clash that Mr. Trump has waged for much of his life.

Now, with the nation’s economic and physical health in clear peril, Mr. Trump and many of his allies on the airwaves and online are blaming familiar enemies in the Democratic Party and the news media."

The very first finger=pointing I observed was from the DNC media, not from the conservative sources. They began with condemning the travel ban back in January.

But the NYT is a DNC mouthpiece and nothing more, so one would expect them to charge that the blaming started in late February with a conservative commentator when it began with their own people in January.

the DNC media,
Serioulsy?
They began with condemning the travel ban back in January.
Good for them. The “travel ban” as implemented was not a ban at all, and was ineffective - even as other nations were modeling effect ways of handling entry for abroad. It did, however signal the kind of xenophobia that for which this administration is justly known.
The spin doctors remain at work,
It is worse than spin. Now it is brazen gas lighting.

Isn’t this kind of deflecting? The point is how Trump and his conservative cohorts actually did harm to the country by their response to the pandemic. Do you have any comment on that or just the ‘tu quoque’ fallacy?

Trump campaign is suing the NY Times as CNN and WaPo, that says something by itself.

I think all 3 outfits come out with a lot of good journalism. Maybe it’s all based on what their editorial boards have said.

That the campaign’s petulance knows no bounds?

"In the essay, Mr. Frankel wrote about communications between Mr. Trump’s inner circle and Russian emissaries in the lead-up to the 2016 election. He concluded that, rather than any “detailed electoral collusion,” the Trump campaign and Russian officials “had an overarching deal”: “the quid of help in the campaign against Hillary Clinton for the quo of a new pro-Russian foreign policy.”

The Trump lawsuit argues that this conclusion “is false” and that The Times published the essay “knowing it would misinform and mislead its own readers.” The suit also accuses The Times, without evidence, of harboring “extreme bias against and animosity toward” Mr. Trump’s re-election campaign."

That suit is a loser.

It wasn’t exactly a “tu toquque” to observe that extreme partisanship at the beginning of an article by a known political source is often a forewarning that the whole piece is a hit piece.

But possibly you also missed the comment from the article that was extremely strained just to get in one more dig at Trump.

And as untrustworthy as sources like the NYT are, the fact that they were saying mostly the same
things suggest that the level of knowledge has changed over time. If they weren’t lying, why should we assume Trump was?

Maybe a dollop of ‘ad hominem’, then? One way or the other, you’re off the subject.

You got anything on the subject or you just want to cast stones at the Times?

You initiated it in Post No. 4. But it still does seem on topic unless we’re only allowed to criticize conservative media here.

And on the assumption that one is allowed to criticize the left still, pointing out where the featured article pulled the truth past the breaking point is not off the subject.

Actually, since that post was a response, you and I both know that I did no such thing.

Yes, you can attack the credibility of the medium, but not with blanket, inaccurate statements. Then one has to deal with the subject matter of the thread: Didn’t conservatives deny there was a problem first and then go on to blame leftists about it when they were wrong? What gall.

Just another case of cherry picking. Those that want to cast blame elsewhere should maybe remove the speck from their own eye first.

Tu quoque, eh?
This is a Catholic forum, no? Just quoting the bible here: “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

That’s absolutely right and Susan Rice was bringing up racism the other day.

The Democrat party is hugely influenced by Planned Parenthood if not actually controlled by them.

I hope the electorate votes them out en masse.

It is amazing, the world faces a historic crisis but they go after other Americans. Once again showing a lack of Christian values, imho, that made our country great.

As I pointed out, liberals started the minimization of the threat in order to call Trump a racist when he took action against it.

As I pointed out the action taken by Trump was unresponsive to the threat, but loudly blew the xenophobe dog whistle. This was not about minimizing the threat, but calling out bad conduct.

  1. I deny that. You paint with a broad brush. Maybe some liberals early on said it wasn’t much of a threat. This is not liberals as a group attempting to do anything.
  2. Trump is the president, for goodness sake! He should use good information to make decision for the good of the country – not score points as to who was most wrong!
I’m waiting for Trump to say: “Let’s suspend politics for 6 weeks. This is a national crisis.” He has not done that. He continues down the same road with his ultra-sensitivity to criticism, blaming predecessors and trying to deflect blame. He needs to lose the narcissim for the good of the country.

quite a few did, and were in the news about it. The NYC mayor comes to mind, he had quite a few missteps in minimizing the threat.
