Conservative Media Went From Virus Denial to Blame

Rodney King comes to mind.

“why can’t we all just get along?”

I deny that. You paint with a broad brush. Maybe some liberals early on said it wasn’t much of a threat. This is not liberals as a group attempting to do anything.
I didn’t say all liberals got together to coordinate accusing Trump of racism for the China travel ban, but many of them did, including Joe Biden.
He continues down the same road with his ultra-sensitivity to criticism, blaming predecessors and trying to deflect blame. He needs to lose the narcissim for the good of the country.
I don’t see it as narcissism. He is attacked almost constantly in the Democrat media. I turn on one of them now and then and they almost never talk about anything other than criticism of Trump. He was investigated for nearly three years for nothing. He was impeached for nothing. He is under attack more than even LBJ was during the Vietnam war. Is he supposed to say nothing? At a point, people might be fooled into believing some of the untrue statements made about him if he said nothing.

I don’t blame him. I am surprised only at his moderation in responding to the constant barrage of attacks.

Nonsense. Other presidents have stood up to criticism. Obama thought he was unfairly treated by Fox.

Much of what Trump has done has engendered criticism from his not acting presidential to his failure to understand conflict of interest to his name-calling of opponents o late night tweeting insults. A different way of acting may engender different media treatment.

Trump is hypersensitive to the criticism and his statements go far beyond refuting what was said about him. I don’t think you are being candid about his behavior. As recent polls show, most Americans of any political stripe disagree with the way Trump acts. That’s a fact.

Clearly you don’t know much about the devices or utterances used by LBJ or Harry Truman, nor how the Kennedys got their revenge when they desired it.

As I said, I didn’t vote for him for Pope. I voted for him for president. So far I don’t have much to complain about in his actual policies.

Susan Rice has been active in speaking about this, this past week:

Actually, I do. It is clear you don’t know much about me but I’m not going to personalize this thread.

Saying that Trump was not elected pope is avoiding the issue. Trump’s conduct has been less than what the country has a right to demand in a commander in chief.

Now, the Trump apologists can dance around that all they want but the fact remains.

So you don’t like his manners. I would rather have a president who gets the Little Sisters off the Obama HHS Mandate and reinstates the Mexico City Policy, and encourages employment than some smooth character who accomplishes nothing but promotion of abortion.

I didn’t vote for him because of his manners. I voted for him because he told us in advance what kinds of judges he was going to appoint and that he was going to get employment up. Oh almost forgot, he promised to get the Army Corps of Engineers off the backs of farmers who need to clean their ponds now and then. The Army didn’t like that one either.

I’m not dancing. Trump can be rude and he can be crude. But he gave me a tax cut and allowed my state to cut Planned Parenthood out of the budget.

I think you know better than that. What would you say of someone who describes himself as a “stable genius”. It is described as a condition " in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others. But behind this mask of extreme confidence lies a fragile self-esteem that’s vulnerable to the slightest criticism."

He pulled your leg, pardner, and you bought it.

(Just got notified that I’m responding to you too much, so I’ll almost certainly quit)

That’s situational ethics, which the Jesuits decry.

It goes beyond Trump’s manners. His particular makeup make him inappropriate to lead in situations where all options must be weighed. As shown by himself, he is not good with emergencies nor day-to-day management. Look at his stacking his cabinet with ‘yes men’ instead of experts who would give him unvarnished opinions, come what may.

As shown, he is a latecomer on many of the policies which conservatives have taken to heart so I’m not sure I would trust his allegiance to those views. And I have major differences with many of his political positions.

That’s situational ethics,
No it isn’t. He isn’t my spiritual advisor, and neither are you. But what one person perceives as rude or crude might or might be sinful objectively. Cutting PP out of the budget is a positive, objective good.

All judgment, no content.

Most executives select people who do not disagree with their policies. Trump has plenty of enemies in the bureaucracy. Did you think he ought to hire some more deliberately?

So what? The result is what counts, not how he came to it mentally.
. And I have major differences with many of his political positions.
I’m not so sure you do. What I have mostly seen is personal attacks, attacks on what you presume his morals are, attacks on his manners. I don’t think most liberal criticisms of him are about policy other than abortion.

As I pointed out, liberals started the minimization of the threat in order to…
I’ll stop you right there because criticism of Trump’s idea of broad restrictions on travel from China is not “minimizing the threat.” It is declaring Trump’s idea ineffective. The virus was already here and since then it has spread by domestic contact.

Lincoln is well known for hiring his rivals. Have you read “Team of Rivals” ?

You expect us to believe it would have been just as well if perhaps hundreds or thousands of infected people had entered the U.S., scattered around, and spread the virus far faster and wider than would otherwise have been the case? Anti-Trumpism has no bounds, it appears.

I’ve not read the book, but I do know he hired some people to keep them from attacking him. (or so he thought). LBJ did the same thing. I recall when someone asked him why he didn’t fire McNamara, whom he despised and rightly distrusted. LBJ replied “I would rather have him inside the tent p…ing out than outside the tent p…ing in.”

But Trump has such total enemies among the Dems and within the entrenched Dem apppointed bureaucracy that he doesn’t need to take on any more deliberately.

The problem with the “ban” is that it did allow hundreds of infected people into the US, while deflection attention from what needed to be done for the effective prevention of viral entry. Things already being done at the time in other countries like Taiwan. The result: we now own it.

The other problem was the gratuitous xenophobic element. Why did the ban apply to inbound foreign nationals only?

An enemy’s view of the psyche of another is hardly diagnostic. Actually, the APA is considering dropping Narcissistic Personality Disorder as a diagnosable condition from the DSM.
