Abortion has been legal since Obama was a child but just barely if he was born in about 1962, whichever year it is.

When Obama was elected in 2008 I wrote the first letter I’ve ever written to a president. I didn’t vote for him and didn’t want him as president but felt like he might do some good for our country and prove me wrong. So I wrote him an encouraging letter. I hoped that since he was part black and part white that maybe he could do something to heal the wounds of racism in our country. I thought maybe he could bring us all together somehow. I sincerely wanted to give him a chance.
He’s done nothing but prove me wrong in that hope ever since. I’ve never seen such a divisive president in my lifetime. And I’ve never seen one before that doesn’t seem to have pride in being American.
Maybe that doesn’t bother you. But it bothers me.
I’ve prayed for his conversion because he sends a very confused, very troubling message to me and to the world.
Strange, the divisiveness I see is aimed at him rather than caused by him: beginning with the birthers and through to those who circulate emails with claims that belong in the trash. Then there was the recent film, followed by a DVD…That’s not the president doing or tolerating all this - that’s us.

Ah, then why does he support a man who had, shall I say, demonstrable difficulty with the truth?
I agree Romney lied and Obama didn’t, every time Obama has in word, deed, and action supported murder on demand, I believe him.

Just for your info, I did not support Romney as much as I opposed the abortion supporter. And also, please fill us in on the particular things Romney lied about. I would say both sides have a bucket full of untruths and/or half truths. So to call one side untruthful and not the other is not credible.

"A Catholic with a fully and properly formed conscience will vote according to the teachings of the Catholic Church. If not, then his or her conscience is not really properly formed—or he or she is arrogantly defying the teaching authority of the Church and sins grievously."

Fr. Vincent Serpa - Apologist CAF.

Emphasis added, Deacon Gary Lapeyrouse, deacon of the Latin Rite Catholic Diocese of Houma/ Thibodaux.
Emphasize all you like. My conscience is well-informed and quite clear on this matter, thanks.

You seem confused: you’re the one claiming that Romney lied and Obama didn’t, but then you go on to say it’s not credible to call one side untruthful and not the other. Which is it?

Strange. I didn’t hear the Pope come out and chastise Catholics for what some of you on this thread term ‘disobedience’…hmm. What did he do? He actually congratulated the winner and gave him a subtle indication of what he expects re-the Church. God bless him. A model of Catholic decency.
He chastised the bishops. He has to congratulate the winner no matter who it is.

So I am not showing Catholic decency? Why? What have I done except not agree with your incorrect portrayal of Catholic doctrine.

Entitlements are already being cut back.

We have a number of layoffs.

This is not charitable.

Those who voted for Obama probably did the worse thing for our country.
Never thought I’d agree with you, BroomWagon, but I do: those layoffs being done in response to Obama’s election are simply uncharitable.

That’s the reason you have your conscience and I have mine.
And your conscience permitted you to vote for abortion on demand, infanticide, same sex “marriage” and the squashing of religious liberty.

How very, very sad.

You’re the one portraying Catholic doctrine in a way that suits your politics. And where have I accused you of not showing Catholic decency? I simply remarked on the pontiff’s response and how it should be an example of behavior for us.

Sad that you would accuse me falsely. I voted for none of those things.

Wait, I thought that was your point??? You are confusing…:o
Confusion often sets in when one can not reconcile their politics with the teachings of their church. Archbishop Chaput describes this “confusions” as mental gymnastics worthy of an Olympics gold medal.

If they have the same views then either one may be chosen, what would be the need to weigh their abortion stance against anything else? In any event, you can’t compare a stance that changes with every poll, so what’s your point? You choose to believe **Romney’s stance in the primaries…**I choose to believe the words coming out of his mouth at a particular point in time and weigh that against his credibility. What makes me wrong and your right? Absolutely nothing. That’s the reason you have your conscience and I have mine.
Here you are dead wrong, I did not support him in the primaries, I backed a truly pro-life catholic named Santorem.

No. He is the one explaining the teaching of the Catholic Church as it pertains to a properly formed conscience and how that applies to voting for someone who champions intrinsic evil.

You are the one who is trying to justify your vote based on political ideology.

Welcome. Jump right in. Never mind that the original post…oh, where’s it disappeared to?

A Catholic is required to follow his conscience, NOT yours.
And the biggest and most dangerous part is the one you skip, the responsibility to form that conscience properly and conform to those teachings. You cannot choose your own truth.

I’m referring to the stance Romney held in the primaries - not to which candidate you supported in the primaries.
