I have heard a number of people call for changing it to not include unjust discrimination.
But I must have missed the part of eliminating it completely.
How are you to define “unjust discrimination”? Most of the talk has been to say that the policy is racist and how do you think the right wing will get around that one?

So, you, as great white protector, have determined that people of color will be outraged because they all think the same way?
Blacks don’t all think the same way. But, they certainly vote almost the same way. Or have I missed the great black turnout in every election for the GOP?

You don’t fix a wrong to a person or group of persons that happened in the past by wronging people in the present, especially when some (if not most) of those people had nothing to do with the original wrong.

As my father always told me, two wrongs don’t make a right, but three lefts do.

This is common sense which seems to be missing from all sides in the political discourse.
I know this much - abolish AA and you will feel the repercussions from the black community.

Ya, people tend to punish others who take away something they think they’ve earned or somehow deserve, rightfully or not. Try to take someone’s food stamps away, even someone who makes more than enough money to NOT qualify for them, but cheats the system so they get them. Take someone’s subsidized housing away, even when their live in boyfriend makes enough money to drive around a brand new Cadillac Escalade and you will have a riot on your hands. People like their hand-outs and will fight for them tooth and nail. In fact, they are more passionate about their hand-outs than they are about their own ability to provide for themselves. My observation.

And, you believe it would get worse? 😛

I don’t believe in supporting racist policies to garner votes, and I don’t believe that black conservatives will abandon their principles over the demise of a racist policy.

A most astute observation! And, no less than the truth.

You are referring to, I presume, to those dozen guys who meet weekly at the coffee shop over Joe and a couple of donuts. 🙂

This is exactly right.

You don’t end racial discrimination by creating racial discrimination.

You don’t end unfairness by creating unfairness.

You don’t fix a wrong by creating more of the same wrong.

Any Catholic should understand that, but I guess not. 🤷

Seriously, this country needs to be divided between the “Tea Party” mindset “Leave me alone, let me work out my problems, and I will pay taxes voluntarily for appropriate government functions” and the Occupy Wall Street mentality “Free college, eliminate all of my debt forever, income for life regardless of employment, free energy that causes no emissions or environmental harm or danger to any living thing anywhere ever, free housing, free transportation, eliminate all corporations, eliminate all banks, free food, free entertainment, free anything else that I might ever want but am not willing to work and pay for.”

Context of this thread indicates color to be one of the main points of contention.
Gender and religion are likely in there as well.

Nothing to get around.
You have drawn the conclusion without support.

Many here would argue that there needs to be something in place to assist those in need. Most agree that it cannot discriminate on color.

As stated, I haven’t seen anyone propose to abolish it. But I have heard people wishing it to be reformed to exclude this unjust discrimination.

A consequence of having fostered a culture of dependence upon the government rather then to stand on ones own accomplishments.
Depending on view, I suppose AA has done its job well.

My view on abolishing AA. Do so at the GOP’s peril on election day. Remove only the racial preferences - do so at the GOP’s peril on election day.

Whatever their numbers, I’m guessing they are the ones who think the great white protector’s policies have hurt, rather than help their communities.

Eliminate the color factor and you rip out the guts of AA.

I don’t doubt that. But, the numbers are what count.

Sorry, Rich. You aren’t going to gain our support for racist policies by appealing to our need for votes. We actually believe in the ability of the people to vote for what is right, rather than just looking at what benefits them personally.

I’m not looking for your votes. In fact, it would favor my party if the right actually started to make real moves about abolishing Affirmative Action because that would get more more blacks and hispanics voting for the Democratic Party.

Of course, you may believe what you believe to be right.

Just get a bigger van, more needles, and coupons for free McDonalds and you will accomplish your task. Then, after the vote, they can be dumped like the refuse the Democrats treat them as until the next election.
