I have heard a number of people call for changing it to not include unjust discrimination.
But I must have missed the part of eliminating it completely.

How are you to define “unjust discrimination”? Most of the talk has been to say that the policy is racist and how do you think the right wing will get around that one?

Blacks don’t all think the same way. But, they certainly vote almost the same way. Or have I missed the great black turnout in every election for the GOP?

You don’t fix a wrong to a person or group of persons that happened in the past by wronging people in the present, especially when some (if not most) of those people had nothing to do with the original wrong.

As my father always told me, two wrongs don’t make a right, but three lefts do.

This is common sense which seems to be missing from all sides in the political discourse.

Ya, people tend to punish others who take away something they think they’ve earned or somehow deserve, rightfully or not. Try to take someone’s food stamps away, even someone who makes more than enough money to NOT qualify for them, but cheats the system so they get them. Take someone’s subsidized housing away, even when their live in boyfriend makes enough money to drive around a brand new Cadillac Escalade and you will have a riot on your hands. People like their hand-outs and will fight for them tooth and nail. In fact, they are more passionate about their hand-outs than they are about their own ability to provide for themselves. My observation.

You don’t end racial discrimination by creating racial discrimination.

You don’t end unfairness by creating unfairness.

You don’t fix a wrong by creating more of the same wrong.

Any Catholic should understand that, but I guess not.

Seriously, this country needs to be divided between the “Tea Party” mindset “Leave me alone, let me work out my problems, and I will pay taxes voluntarily for appropriate government functions” and the Occupy Wall Street mentality “Free college, eliminate all of my debt forever, income for life regardless of employment, free energy that causes no emissions or environmental harm or danger to any living thing anywhere ever, free housing, free transportation, eliminate all corporations, eliminate all banks, free food, free entertainment, free anything else that I might ever want but am not willing to work and pay for.”

Context of this thread indicates color to be one of the main points of contention.
Gender and religion are likely in there as well.

You have drawn the conclusion without support.

Many here would argue that there needs to be something in place to assist those in need. Most agree that it cannot discriminate on color.

As stated, I haven’t seen anyone propose to abolish it. But I have heard people wishing it to be reformed to exclude this unjust discrimination.

I’m not looking for your votes. In fact, it would favor my party if the right actually started to make real moves about abolishing Affirmative Action because that would get more more blacks and hispanics voting for the Democratic Party.
