And, have those discrimination lawsuits using those definitions resulted in the abolition of Affirmative Action? No, they have not. I’d suggest that we review the definition of Affirmative Action and not simply substitute for it what the right-wing would like substituted for it. I am totally for Affirmative Action. Others may support it or oppose it as they will. 🙂
Irrelevant. You disputed his definition. I pointed out his is the common one.

Then what exactly would you call this injustice?
They call it Affirmative Action and convince themselves it isn’t racism.

It’s like calling murdering a living child 'Reproductive Choices".🤷

Once you change the word it takes away the ickiness for some people.🤷

So if I do not hire someone because they are black it’s not racist?

This should be interesting…
You wont get an answer. What you will get is endless semantics games about how to define words. Any reasonable person knows discrimination based on the color of ones skin is racist-they cant deny this thus the midirection of the semantics game

I call Affirmative Action Affirmative Action and am convinced of its normal definition. Please do call it whatever you prefer to. 🙂

I recall the definition you provided.
It seemed fairly good.

But I am still at a loss to see how it is something that discriminates based on sex and race can be called anything but wrong.

“it depends on what the defintion of “is” is” "

Affirmative Action: A policy or a program that seeks to redress past discrimination through active measures to ensure equal opportunity, as in education and employment.

We do not agree about the rightness or wrongness of the policy. Looks like an impasse.

Words for many injustices have been invented over the years to help people accept those injustices and help them turn a blind eye.

Affirmative Action: A policy or a program that seeks to redress past discrimination through active measures to ensure equal opportunity, as in education and employment.

.
And what policies are used to adress the past discrimination and ensure equal opportunity?

Affirmative Action: A policy or a program that seeks to redress past discrimination through -]active measures/-] present discrimination to ensure -]equal/-] unequal opportunity, as in education and employment.

Affirmative Action: A policy or a program that seeks to redress past discrimination through -]active measures/-] present discrimination to ensure -]equal/-] unequal opportunity, as in education and employment.
So some would hold. 😉 🙂

It is an injustice to deny based upon sex, color, religion etc…
My position: Affirmative action refers to policies that take factors including “race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin” into consideration in order to benefit an underrepresented group, usually as a means to counter the effects of a history of discrimination.
So now we have a problem because affirmative action does exactly that.
But we have a ready solution in hand…
Here is the new definition…
Affirmative Action: A policy or a program that seeks to redress past discrimination through active measures to ensure equal opportunity, as in education and employment.
See…no more mention of color or sex.
No problem.
