Btw…off topic but I saw this the other day. Dion giving the actual story about the Winter Tour and what led up to the decision to charter the plane. He was there and provides some interesting insight.

Rather different than the Gloria I’m used to. Apparently this relatively forgotten tune is a cover too.

The Disturbed cover for “Sound of Silence,” by Simon & Garfunkel. Disturbed usually isn’t that great, but this cover is

I don’t know what makes me more sad: the fact that this exists or the fact that I didn’t know this existed until just now. 😝

It’s kind of hilarious, though.🤣

Looks like Shatner also covered Space Oddity. It is equally painful/hilarious:

Speaking of Space Oddity, I’ve always been partial to Saigon Kick’s version more so than the original. I’ve never liked David Bowie, though.

Let’s not forget Leonard Nimoy has quite the discography too. Although his originals (“Ballad of Bilbo Baggins”, “Highly Illogical”) tend to be better than his covers.

[Note: this is for the pre-2000 version, not the 2017 version.]

For those who say you can’t cover a Beatles song and make people tear up, try the cover of “Julia” from A Prairie Home Companion: 20th Anniversary Collection.

“Julia” was Paul McCartney’s meditation on his mother who died young (44 yrs), plus they grew up apart. He never really knew her. Sweet and sad.

You mean John Lennon’s mother. John’s mother was named Julia and she was hit by a car crossing the street and killed. John never got over it. They did spend much of their time apart because John’s mother and father broke up when he was small and he was raised by his Aunt Mimi and Uncle George.

Paul’s mother died young too, of cancer, but her name was Mary (“Mother Mary comes to me” in “Let it Be” which is a Paul song).
