I personally like Whitney Houston’s version of " I Will Always Love You" way better than the song’s writer and original singer, Dolly Parton’s version.

No I mean for that song lol. That’s Dolly’s signature song.

I knew that was what you meant, and I know that was her signature song, but when Whitney sang it, she owned it and even Dolly agreed.

Not in my book. Whitney’s will always be the cheap knock-off.

Oh no. Hendrix is in a league of his own. If it weren’t for Hendrix’s version there wouldn’t have been other cover versions

Been a while since I listened to all of the versions, and I never have side-by-side before.

For mine Hendrix us the best.

But I still think U2’s Helter Skelter is better than the Beatles’ - they really did steal it back from Charlie Manson 🙂

Pop Media is almost anathema to me, but I like the Dream Syndicate’s cover of Let it Rain better than Clapton’s.

Let it Rain

I love cover songs, especially unusual ones.

Here’s a cover of an ABBA song:

Cover of Dexy’s Midnight Runners:

Cover of Metallica (semi-acapella):

I have never heard ANYONE try to cover a Steely Dan song. They are out of anyone’s league/

Listen and learn my friend - Charles Manson based his philosophy (such as it was) around the Beatles’ song ‘Helter Skelter’. In effect he stole it from the Beatles - and U2 were ‘stealing ir back’ as they put it in their intro to their cover.

Meanwhile George Michael blows Sir Elton out of the water on “Don’t let the Sun go down on Me”

And Elton Acknowledges it

Step aside Righteous Brothers, Long John Baldry and Kathi Macdonald kill it onn “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ feeling”

I like Onelinedrawing’s version of Savory, over the Jawbox version. I also like John Lennon’s version of Stand By Me better… cos it’s got a more manic vocal, though I do like Ben E King’s original, too.

As much as I like Joni Mitchell, Nazareth does a great job on “This flight Tonight”
