Well, let’s see why Catholics like Cruz:
- He’s pro-life
- He’ll appoint justices who won’t force the Catholic Church to do things it doesn’t want to do just other people can feel good inside.
- He stands on principle and doesn’t have an erratic record or say things like “follow the law” instead of one’s conscience.
- His policies will help the poor in large measure.
Problem is if the person in third place gets the nomination, people will probably walk away from the republican party.
That’s what will lose elections and was reportedly a big factor in the 2012 election.
Also, this notion that Cruz would automatically lose is tiresome. He is polling close to Clinton in the general and in every single swing state except for New Mexico (now considered blue by many anyways) and the primary for the GOP isn’t even over yet. Also, some of the polls I’ve seen under sample republicans.
Cruz also has lead Clinton among independents by double-digits from what I have seen.
