Being conservative is not a problem. But dishonesty, inflexibility, inability to work with colleagues, untrustworthiness could be very big problems. But is he too conservative?

When it comes time for cruz vs hillary, their front cover will be: 10 reasons to hate ted cruz.Cruz on front of TIME: time.com/4284790/learning-to-love-ted-cruz/
Will a Pres. Cruz be able to abolish the IRS and institute a flat tax by presidential mandate or does this plan have to be presented to and passed by Congress? If the latter, will Congress go along and, if they do, how long would the details of such a plan take to be hammered out? Excuse me if I’m doubtful about the feasibility of all this. Cruz also wants to abolish several other governmental agencies such as the Department of Education, and he wants to get rid of Obamacare, including the Affordable Care Act. How will the latter help the poor? And don’t you think his proposals are just as ambitious as those of Bernie Sanders, and equally as implausible? If not, why not?For a family of four, the first $36,000 of income will not be taxed. It will effectively be taxed at 0%.
Instead of seven different tax rates for different incomes, there will be one tax rate: 10% for all individuals. The Child Tax Credit remains in place. Earned Income Tax Credit is expanded.
A simple, flat tax will create 4.8 million new jobs and increase wages by 12%.
Well like I told Tony Micelli,Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, et al have been saying for years that the Republicans would clean up in the general election if only they nominated a “real conservative”. Well, I think we’re about to see that theory tested.
Cruz might win if this were 1980, or 1984, or 1988. He stands no chance this year. It will be a disaster not just for him but for GOP candidates down the ticket. But if it will shut up Limbaugh, et al, it will have served a good purpose.
Well, I’m a moderate Republican, but I figure we cannot expect to always have a moderate nominee – just like right wingers can’t expect to always have a right wing nominee.
I think a lot of people underestimate Ted Cruz. He has come this far, which is further than Rubio or Kasich have. He is relatively young and has a long political career ahead of him. It is not unreasonable to think he will expand the skills he has in a presidential campaign, in particular communicating with moderates and finding common ground. If he doesn’t learn to do this, I agree he is done. But he is extremely intelligent and an effective politician. The backstabbing is Politician 101; politics is a rough and tumble sport. I don’t think that Cruz plays any dirtier than Clinton, Trump or most of the Presidents we have had in history.Cruz on front of TIME: time.com/4284790/learning-to-love-ted-cruz/
Cruz tossed a lot of this out because of Trump being in the race. Stir up the base - stay competitive; I don’t put that past him. He may well believe some of it, but I don’t think any of it would ever see the light of day. And I suspect he knows it. It would be fascinating to see a general election Cruz platform. It would move to the center - and yes, if he doesn’t he won’t win. I think he knows that too. I want to see how conservative he can stay in the general, effectively. Will a Pres. The above written assignment is due on my desk by Monday morning.
In other words, cruz is just another politician who will say and do anything to get elected, rather than do what he actually says.Cruz tossed a lot of this out because of Trump being in the race. You may be right, but I am not so sure. Cruz has been pitching flat tax, gold standard, and doing away with a big chunk of the government his entire career. If he backs off of that in the general, what does he have left? I think he would stay the course and lose the general by a pretty good margin. Then maybe the GOP can stop with the silliness about not being conservative enough and get back to being a real national party again.Cruz tossed a lot of this out because of Trump being in the race. I don’t deny the ‘snake’ element in Cruz. I am just starting to see its value in presidential politics - sorry, but most great Presidents could play dirty: Lincoln, Reagan, Kennedy, ClintonYou may be right, but I am not so sure. Richard Nixon as well.I don’t deny the ‘snake’ element in Cruz. I am just starting to see its value in presidential politics - sorry, but most great Presidents could play dirty: Lincoln, Reagan, Kennedy, Clinton
What’s trump incompetent at? Oh wait I know, he hasn’t beaten cruz badly enough. But New York is coming!!!I don’t deny the ‘snake’ element in Cruz. I am just starting to see its value in presidential politics - sorry, but most great Presidents could play dirty: Lincoln, Reagan, Kennedy, Clinton
Maybe Rubio was too good for politics; Trump is dirty enough, but incompetent.
I’ll join your voice here:**I don’t deny the ‘snake’ element in Cruz. ** I am just starting to see its value in presidential politics - sorry, but most great Presidents could play dirty: Lincoln, Reagan, Kennedy, Clinton

Yes I have discounted Cruz for so long and here he is still standing. I do now see how he could balance sticking to his guns on political principle (backbone) and learning to reach out, communicate - the way the good Presidents do. We shall see. He has a long way to go, but my point is I think he could actually have the goods to get there. The strongest survive, right? Rubio as VP solves a lot of the friction with moderates, right off the bat.If nominated, I’m sure Cruz will do just fine in the general election. His campaign has a broad coalition of support. He has even received endorsements from Jeb Bush and Lindsey Graham. Of course, he does well in the “very conservative” group, but he will also do well in other groups (libertarian, Reagan Democrat, independent) as his coalition continues to expand.
It doesn’t mean he intends to sacrifice his principles. Cruz is a principled conservative and makes no apology for it - the huge coalition he is building demonstrates why Cruz Conservatism has such a broad appeal.
Make no mistake, if Donald Trump were to drop out and endorse Cruz (and possibly become Vice President), Cruz could potentially win states like New York and California with ease in the General Election. It won’t likely happen, but it would be a very exciting scenario.
You are not…*actually *Donald Trump… are you?I’ll join your voice here:
Cruz is a snake!
I’ll say I am if you agree to not use those emoticons again.
