Acid rain was caused by burning coal that had a high sulfur content. This produced sulfur dioxide which would be released as part of the smoke. When exposed to water in the atmosphere (i.e., clouds), this produced sulfuric acid, which would precipitate out with the rain.
Improvements in scrubber technology (which attempts to remove certain pollutants from coal smoke), the improvements in treating coal to remove sulfur compounds before burning, and the move to use natural gas for power generation has lead to the reduction in acid rain in the US. Although it isn’t talked about publicly, it is still an issue in China (which heavily relies on coal).

The problem won’t be as bad as the children’s Christmas Mass on Christmas eve at the parish my grandchildren go to though.

Thank you so much! :hugs: it started off just a bit sad ,but by the end of the day had been a great day.
I offered my ticly thoat up in mass today …you know,that dreaded tickle where your eyes are watering and you know you could have a coughing fit any moment and you think 'will I ,won’t I run to the foyer and cough.

I always get especially impatient and irritable when I start to get ill with something on either a holiday or a birthday.
It’s just such a miserable time for that to happen!

One of my favorite seasons of the year…!
Yes, the weather is starting to turn around outdoors, and it is starting to become warmer outside.
Our outdoor temps. are starting to warm up. We’re headed for the 40’s Fahrenheit for awhile now.
Spring will be in a few weeks now, and we’ll also be turning the clocks ahead again soon, too. I think next weekend, if I am not mistaken.
