trips were a bit rough

🤢
Yeah, I took a ferry from Scotland to Ireland once. I was expecting an Indiana type ferry–a kind of large yacht thing that carries people across a lake or river. It turned out to be more like a steamship with cargo bays for huge trucks. To say I was astonished is putting it mildly!

They can be so huge !
I took one at Denmark and there were escalators, shops cafes, cinimas
I wasn’t impressed with one trip ,seeing sky then water repeated out the window all the way for three hours…I was just a bit shaky getting to the mainland.
Nice to think of you travelling around Katy 🙂

There is a ferry that crosses Lake Michigan between the cities of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and Ludington, Michigan. I’ve taken it a few times in the past.

Were you getting seasick Greenfield? It happens even to us old salts. 🤢 from time to time.

I didn’t throw up,but it was a very early morning sail from Stornaway in Lewis across to the mainland of Scotland.I had to try and find a B and B in the village when we arrived ,it was Winter and all I wanted to do was sleep 🙂

I went from Stranraer to Belfast. It was quite an experience. I still have a deck of cards from the ferry line…Stayn or something like that.

I went from my house to the gym once. That was an exhausting experience. Hopefully one which I will never have have again.

Nice! 🙂 My first trip I went by train to Wales to catch the ferry…and I was in awe as a castle popped up in the distance, drew closer and we actually travelled beneath it …I should Google that …

(not wanting to be left out 😠) I’ve taken the Catalina Express to Catalina Island here several times. I do tend to get seasick though 🤢, which would likely shame my grandpa, who was a career Navy man, and my dad, who always had boats and spent a lot of time on the ocean 😠. The Catalina Express moves so fast, and we usually travel on days when the water’s calm, so no trouble with seasickness on those voyages.

So Catalina is a real place? I thought it was just a song and an old swimsuit company…

So Catalina is a real place?
Yes, it’s the island of romance… which is why I never stay there too long 😠

They also have a nice Catholic church in Avalon, St. Catherine of Alexandria 👍

It looks lovely. I didn’t realize it was an actual island either. In the song, it seemed like an imaginary place like Shagrila. California appears to be a nice place to live if it’s in a place without earthquakes, wildfires, drought, and crazy people.

Catalina is really nice to visit. Although it has gotten touristy over the years, it has quite a bit different feel to it than California mainland.

Of course, you just MADE me spend an hour looking up a video to this song:

(Actually, finding the song was less than 5 minutes. The rest of the time was spent getting distracted.)

My mom, my son and I visited Catalina Island overnight a couple years ago. Our hotel was up a steep street (that’s all they have there) and we had to get a cab to get my mom there. My son and I explored a bit in the evening while mom rested, and we had such a good time!
