Ahaaah…🧐 Thank you Stephie,I shall endeavour to look them up.Thank goodness we still have one dvd shop not too far away.It is very difficult searching for a DVD there unless you ask…most of the DVDs just show the spine.

Probably any of a dozen Al Capone movies where some one is getting cement shoes.
“Heroes On Deck” a WW II propaganda movie, in color too, detailing the U.S. Navy’s carrier aviator training program on the lake. They actually had a pair of aircraft carriers out there during that war.
Then there’s the Lake Michigan Triangle, a low budget Bermuda Triangle.
Why doesn’t it surprise me that the conspiracy theory people would try to cash in on the many wrecks in that lake.

There’s the movie. The Surface. which I haven’t seen, but it is actually set on Lake Michigan. Looking at the reviews people seem to either love it or hate it. It’s from 2014.

There’s also everyone’s favorite hip hop movie, 8 Mile starring Eminem, which was filmed in Detroit. 😠

Several of my great uncles left Port Hope and went to work in Detroit during the 1920s. Also, my third great grandparents on my paternal grandmother’s side are buried in Detroit. Their descendants moved to Marcellus, near Kalamazoo.

It’s long been quipped in the CAF Liturgy forum that the classic song The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot sounds like Marty Haugen’s hymn Gather Us In 😠.

Oh gee, thanks for putting THAT song in my head this morning.

😠

Well, it is Lent. I’ll offer it up.

Here link to another beautiful island in the Great Lakes. This one has a very interesting history behind it too.

Well, posting all this info about beautiful places I’ll never see has certainly left me a bit more curmudgeonly. Excellent. Well done.

👵🚬

Hey Gertie, you never know. I never thought I’d get to see much of the world either. Then my eldest daughter joined the USAF and did so well that she spent 23 years and retired. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that now as PCness is over the top. Still that was my way to travel beyond my wildest dreams. Then a year ago an Irish friend told me about the pilgrimage to Lourdes b Compostella, and Fatima at a ridiculously low price compared to the US. You just never know what might turn up. Box of chocolates and all that.😊

Which song? Marty Haugen’s or Gordon Lightfoot’s? (still love Lightfoot’s voice…)

An incredibly sad song. Perfect for our thread. And now to make everyone feel bad because they’ll feel good (it’s a Curmudgeon thing), share and enjoy:

I know how you feel about those old bands. Love Händel was my favorite band in the 80’s, and I was crushed when they broke up so soon.

Imagine my delight when a group of goofy kids found a way to get the band back together for a concert for their parents’ wedding anniversary! The Disney Channel even did a documentary about the kids and their special concert. This scene documents how they found the former drummer working in a library… Ah, Love Handel… ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Sometimes, when the song leader is extra cheerful and says, “Let’s all rise and join in song,” I wish I could belt out my response with this guy’s voice 😠:

What, and exchange my perfectly fine honed, out of tune Curmudgeon singing voice?

I sing, but softly, and a deliberate octave lower than everyone else 😠.

One of the good things about my parish is we don’t usually have song leaders. The hymns are posted on boards in the front of the church. Also our cantors in the OF don’t usually go waving their arms around to get people respond during the psalm. People actually are capable of figuring it out for themselves! Who’d a thunk?😠 Bah! I’m proctoring mid terms today and am in a surly mood.😡

Hey, the ritual of the waving of the arms is to alert those who have almost dozed off.

Speaking of which, have fun proctoring. Usually 5 or 6 cups of Mudgie coffee helps.

The trailer looked interesting. I hear so much about the Great Lakes that I thought it would be interesting to see one of them in a movie. Unfortunately my video store doesn’t have The Surface. I guess there’s Netflix but I’ve never worked it out, and stuck with the video store. It feels like an antique shop.
