Wiccan is categorised as occult by the Vatican becuase of its use of curses and spells amongst other things.
You really should learn more about things before you make broad-brush statements like that.

But if you’re happy in not knowing what you’re talking about, go for it.

Wikepedia definition of Wicca:

A religion that worships a Moon Goddess and a Horned Male Deity God 👹

It all concerns that practice of spells.

‘The classical ritual scheme in British Traditional Wicca traditions is:[85]

Cone of power
Drawing down the Gods
Spellcasting

These rites often include a special set of magical tools. These usually include a knife called an athame, a wand, a pentacle and a chalice, but other tools include a broomstick known as a besom, a cauldron, candles, incense and a curved blade known as a boline. An altar is usually present in the circle, on which ritual tools are placed and representations of the God and the Goddess may be displayed.[86] Before entering the circle, some traditions fast for the day, and/or ritually bathe. After a ritual has finished, the God, Goddess and Guardians are thanked, the directions are dismissed and the circle is closed.‘

‘Some wiccans use rituals, to dedicate themselves to becoming a Wiccan. The first of these to be published was in Paul Huson’s Mastering Witchcraft (1970), and unusually involved recitation of the Lord’s Prayer backwards ‘

The Witchcraft religion became more prominent beginning in 1951, with the repeal of the Witchcraft Act of 1735, after which Gerald Gardner and then others such as Charles Cardell and Cecil Williamson began publicising their own versions of the Craft. Gardner and others never used the term “Wicca” as a religious identifier, simply referring to the “witch cult”, “witchcraft”, and the “Old Religion”. However, Gardner did refer to witches as “the Wica”.[135] During the 1960s, the name of the religion normalised to “Wicca”

The bible and Vatican is clear that ALL PRACTICE OF MAGIC is WITCHCRAFT. And comes from Satan.

How would you suggest I have a talk with her about this?
Plain and straightforwardly, your daughter is old enough to be taught about the demonic. Make sure you’re charitable, though, so your daughter will understand that it is a sad thing that someone would be a wicca, and explain why they are wrong.

Now, most people involved with the occult are not demoniacs and pose no threat to anyone (but themselves). Keep in mind that no demonic activity can happen without God’s permission. I think you should warn your daughter about the dangers of the occult and being around occult items, but considering her age I’m not sure forbidding anything is a good idea. This will be a test of faith for her. Allow it, and help her make the right calls.

Your child is getting a valuable lesson in spiritual warfare. You keep contact with the other child but only if you are confident that your child has at least her age group knowledge of the Catholic Faith. Obviously you can’t blame the other kid for the sins of the parents but what you can do is make sure your child knows the One True Faith so that if the other kid does bring up the new age junk your child will be able to confidently share her belief in Jesus and His Church. Of course once the other parents find out that your child is sharing the Truth they might forbid their kid from hanging out with your child lol.

Would you forbid her from visiting her friend if they were Hindu?

compare and contrast…

Hindus do not worship a Horned God and cast spells.

As Wikipedia states is the norm for Wiccans.

All spell casting and magic is condemned by the Vatican as Occult and direct or indirect worship of demons.

Yes the Hindus have many gods that they call demons.

They specifically worship certain demon gods.

Saint Paul even warns in the bible:
‘Do you nor know the gods the greeks worship are actually demons?’

The biggest danger of wiccans is that the norm is to cast spells, The bible is CLEAR that all magic and spells are witchcraft and involve spirits not of God or His angels

Well TechGuy if you want to let your child visit a home that worships a Horned Male God, and who practice magic (which is forbidden by scripture and the Vatican as Occult), Or want to let your child visit a home that openly worships demon gods (even though Saint Paul warns in the bible that some false gods are fallen angels/ demons), That is your decision! 🔥

So, forbid visits to the Hindu home or not?
Excellent point.

Wicca should be treated the same as any other non-Christian belief system.

If people are involving your child in their religious practices or trying to persuade them away from your faith to theirs, then it’s time for the parent to step in and limit or end the friendship.

If the child’s interactions with the other family do not involve religion and the other family is respectful of your faith, then it’s not a problem.

Bear, as always, this is a very wise response!

I actually am interested in your answer to my question…I could infer from your response that you would not let your hypothetical child visit the Hindu home, but I hate to make assumptions when I could know for sure from your explicit answer:

___ YoungCatholicGuy WOULD allow his child to visit the Hindu home

___ YoungCatholicGuy would NOT allow his child to visit the Hindu home

Please check one…

Wicca uses spells and magic (which the Vatican and bible condemns as occult) ,
It is an occult movement, not a religion.

You want the Freemasons and Satanists to be considered religions too? The ones who also practice magic, curses, and worship their own Horned God (specifically satan),

If you forbid your child from going to every home of a Freemason in the USA, then you’d basically be forbidding them from visiting a lot of Protestants who are involved in the local community events, which is silly.

If you put Wicca in the same category as Satanism, you’re just showing ignorance about other religions. Not a good way to evangelize or even teach your children reasonably about faith.

To each his own. I prefer to be reasonable. There are enough Christians in the world who lose all sense of perspective about other religions without me adding to the pile.

If a movement practices spells and curses, The Vatican labels it as Occult.

The Occult is not a religion but anything which involves magic and spells , the Vatican and Bible label as witchcraft.

The Book of Revelation states:
‘Homosexuals, fornicators, PRACTITIONERS OF MAGIC, OF THE OCCULT, will NOT enter the Kingdom of Heaven, they will be cast into the burning lake of fire with Lucifer, the beast, the false prophet and all his angels. There they will be tormented night and day until the end of time. Their worm will not go out.’

Some ‘religion’ that is, The Bible and Vatican have said the practice of magic, is occult, is witchcraft, is grave matter (under the three conditions is a mortal sin), and under the pains of mortal sin has a consequence of Hell, if not repented of.

The problem with Wicca and other modern pagan religions is that they are pretty much all DIY. They do not have a central deposit of faith, so to speak. Wiccans most adamantly do not intend to worship evil, they have a humble go-with-the-good-flow sort of attitude rather than a learn-the-magic-words-and-become-powerful vibe, but honestly you can’t know what any particular Wiccan believes exactly. (Think about it: we Catholics actually do have a Magesterium, but take into account the billion plus of us and try to predict what someone who is nominally Catholic is going to say or do!)

Your daughters friend is a pagan, not a demon incarnate. The thing to do is to teach your daughter how to interact with pagans: that is, you need to instruct her that her friend will learn what Christians are like from her. If you do that and teach your daughter the love of Jesus that is not a set of rules but a desire to pursue virtue out of a relationship with Christ Himself, she will be OK.

So–Wiccans. Your daughter ought to know that Wiccans believe a very wide variety of things, so you cannot tell her anything for certain about what to expect. Having said that, Wiccans consider truth something that is learned by living experience, not something that can be expressed in a creed. Wiccans put a very high value on tolerance, though. If your daughter’s friend disputes something the Catholic Church teaches, your daughter can say, “Yes, well, my mother told me that Wiccans value tolerance very highly and don’t try to change other people’s views.”

What Wiccans believe about the existence or nature of deities is fluid. It will depend on the practitioner. They do have a sort of “life force” view: that is, the tend to agree there is one life and it permeates all things. Your daughter might say, “You believe that life is in everything; we believe that life has one source, which is God. We believe that God and God’s creation are two different things, though. God is love and God loves all He created, but God didn’t make creation out of himself. God was there when there was no creation, and if the whole universe were to vanish, God would still be there.” You can let your daughter know that her friend may not buy this; she ought to just say what she believes but refuse to have anything like a fight about it.

(cont.)

Wiccans, being pagans, do have deities, although they don’t have a central doctrine about the nature of these deities. What you need to impress upon your daughter is that while her friend and her parents may be doing the best they can and may be trying to honor the good as they see the good, we Christians only worship the one true God. You might read her this section of Acts to give her an idea about how St. Paul went about interactions with pagans of good intention:

“You Athenians, I see that in every respect you are very religious. For as I walked around looking carefully at your shrines, I even discovered an altar inscribed, ‘To an Unknown God.’ What therefore you unknowingly worship, I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and all that is in it, the Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in sanctuaries made by human hands, nor is he served by human hands because he needs anything. Rather it is he who gives to everyone life and breath and everything. He made from one the whole human race to dwell on the entire surface of the earth, and he fixed the ordered seasons and the boundaries of their regions, so that people might seek God, even perhaps grope for him and find him, though indeed he is not far from any one of us. For ‘In him we live and move and have our being,’ as even some of your poets have said, ‘For we too are his offspring.’ Since therefore we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the divinity is like an image fashioned from gold, silver, or stone by human art and imagination. God has overlooked the times of ignorance, but now he demands that all people everywhere repent because he has established a day on which he will ‘judge the world with justice’ through a man he has appointed, and he has provided confirmation for all by raising him from the dead.” When they heard about resurrection of the dead, some began to scoff, but others said, “We should like to hear you on this some other time.” And so Paul left them. But some did join him, and became believers. Among them were Dionysius, a member of the Court of the Areopagus, a woman named Damaris, and others with them. Acts 17:22-34
In other words, nothing the Wiccans are saying is anything new that the Apostles didn’t know about.

Mostly, though, the way with Wiccans is to be virtuous and life-giving, to be a picture of the grace of Christ, rather than full of creed, which they will resist.

Now who is going to harm you if you are enthusiastic for what is good? But even if you should suffer because of righteousness, blessed are you. Do not be afraid or terrified with fear of them, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be the will of God, than for doing evil. 1 Pet. 3:13-17
