If I may add something…

I am not familiar with oudave or other things he has said. But let’s be a little careful with the labels.

Seeing somebody kneeling in front of a statue can lead to some innocent misconceptions about what is going on there. It is not necessarily “anti-Catholic” to have questions about that, and be uncomfortable with it. It can be simple ignorance of what is happening.

I can understand the concern of idol-worship. In fact, I will go so far as to say that certain Catholics do not help the case. I’ll be honest, there probably are Catholics who don’t have a proper understanding that Marian devotion should be used to complement and enhance our relationship with Christ, and instead use Mary as a substitute.

The fact that some are misguided does not implicate Marian devotion at all. But we need to be forthcoming about the deficiencies of some people, because it may well be that oudave has had experience with such a person.

As many here have pointed out, the statue is simply a way of bringing us more in tune with whom we are conversing with (not worshipping). It’s a great thing. But when Dave says “I’ve seen someone do …” well, maybe he actually has. And he’s either misinterpreted the action, or the person was misguided and misrepresented our faith. Either are possible.

I’ve seen Protestants kneeling next to their beds. They must worship mattresses!

👍

Wait a minute… Don’t we all worship musicians? I thought that was ok… 😉

I think that in this case the Roman Catholics and Dave, along with other Protestants might be defining “worship” differently . . . but this may already have been said.

How is each group defining “worship”?

Michael,

this is an excellent and intelligent question. You are correct in stating that we need to define “worship”.

All the same Catholics give honour to Mary who was given to us as Mother of the Church 🙂

I was a big fan of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. I admit to having pictures of them on my bedroom wall

OF COURSE CATHOLICS WORSHIP IDOLS! I BET IF SOMEONE STUCK A GOLDEN CALF IN FRONT OF YOU, YOU’D WORSHIP THAT TOO! AS A MATTER OF FACT, YOU PROBABLY WORSHIP THE DEVIL!! THE DEVIL!!!

😛 just kidding. I tell you what really helped clear it up for me a long time ago. I always thought catholics prayed to saints and Mary the same way as they do to God. But people on this board made such a good anaology and I don’t see why other people aren’t enlightened by it.

“praying” to saints and Mary, as I understand it, is asking for their intercession, just as a person might ask a friend here on earth to pray for em. I don’t see how that’s idol worship.

Okay,Who put yes on the poll:tsktsk: Who was it?Michaelp was it you:eek: Who did it:tsktsk:

Hahah that was my band back in the day. I wanted to be Sting when I grew up

Hijack Over: you may return to your regularly scheduled discussion

So far we have Oudave agreeing with himself but he is not prepared to post in the thread. He would rather disrupt and hijack other threads with his charge.

Your probably right:nope: Thats okay,I will bide my time:whistle: 😃
Actually, Michael brought it to my attention that it was a public poll. You can click on the number of votes (when it’s underlined) and it tells you who voted for that option. If you click on that “1” in the poll, it lists Dave.

Well what do you know;) Dave:tsktsk: Shame on you twice:tsktsk: :tsktsk: See like I said we can talk and tell you the truth till we are blue and the face you won’t listen:rolleyes: Why because you don’t want to here it.

Many of both Roman Catholics and Protestants are idolators, since they put worship of works of their hands before the commands of God. In other words in a world where 26,000 children die of hunger related disease every day, there is more emphasis on owning a Mercedes.
