Many of both Roman Catholics and Protestants are idolators, since they put worship of works of their hands before the commands of God. In other words in a world where 26,000 children die of hunger related disease every day, there is more emphasis on owning a Mercedes.
And four thousand an day are slaughtered by abortion, excuse me do you have something on your mind?

OUDAVE, Come out, come out, where ever you are, come out and play, Dave.

I see Dave is avoiding something he started over here AND he is avoiding a major issue on the other thread as well.

Will he eventually get flushed out?

What suspense! What drama!

since my currency is different I will bet saying a decade of the rosary to be recited in this thread, that Dave will appear on this thread tomorrow. He has been lurking so he is aware of our comments.
🙂
Meanwhile I will go back to my idolatry of cat and dog.

How’s this for a stretch…

When Protestants bow their heads in prayer to whom are they really praying to? To whom are they really bowing too? To the ignorant or esoteric it might appear they are bowing and praying to the air. Is not Satan the Lord and Master of the air and wouldn’t Protestants be bowing and praying to Satan?

Dose this sound irrational, illogical, extreme, unreasonable, and untrue? Yep; and so is beleiving that Catholics worship idols.

Dave,
I will kneel before a statue of Mary and pray for you tonight. I humbly ask for Her intercession. May She lay my prayers for you at Her Son’s feet.
1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
Hebrews 7:22-28 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better covenant. And they truly were many priests, because they were not allowed to continue by reason of death: But this man, because he continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them. For such a high priest was befitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needs not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law makes men high priests who have weakness; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, makes the Son, who is consecrated forevermore.
Isa 53:12; 59:16; Da 9:16; Joh 14:6,13; 16:23; 17:9-26;
Ro 5:2; 8:34; Eph 2:18; 3:12; 1Ti 2:5; Heb 7:8,16,24; 9:24;13:15; 1Jo 2:1-2; Re 8:3-4

:nope: I am not ranting, nor am I hijacking anything, I am pointing out the fact that the Bible says we are to ask our true Advocate Who is Jesus Christ. That is what my priest tells us. Who am I to argue, especially if it is in the Bible? Didn’t mean to ruffle angel hairs.

As for the person who posted about praying to the ‘prince of the power of the air’ when some of us don’t pray in front of statues etc. it is not that; we are not to bow down before graven images but to worship in faith just like Jesus says: John 4:23-24 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeks such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

I know you don’t like having to more than one post answered at the same time, but I could not help this time. I will try to refrain from that in future.

Hey Ruth 101,
Can you prove that statement you made from the ten commandments, because if you’ll have a look at post # 4 you’ll see this direct quote from the 1st commandment. I challenge you to accept the fact that your allegations about us being idolators is untrue in the light of the Word of God.

Read the graven image part of the first commandment here:
Exodus 20:1-5

“1 And the Lord spoke all these words: 2 I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt not have strange gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me:”

It is clear that the prohibition is not iconoclastic as you preach, but based upon the intent of the one making and using the image. Since NO CATHOLIC EVER kneels down before any image to worship it we are not idolators at all. We are not stupid enough to confuse a mass of rock, plaster, metal, or any other created thing with the almighty and ever living God of the Universe. So you can pack up this argument and put it in the garbage can where it rightfully belongs my friend. 🙂

BTW, Your Bible quote says nothing whatsoever about the advocacy of Christ, just His priesthood. It IS off topic since this is a discussion of oudave’s allegation that we are idolators, which is patently untrue. This iconoclasm was first inspired by the influences of Islam on a few kings in the 800’s. In fact it is still in effect in fundamentalist Islamic countries today. Ask anyone who was in Afganistan under the Talliban.

I promised that I would find some Old Testament passages that tell us exactly what is meant by idolatry:

"Take a woodcutter. He fells a suitable tree, neatly strips off the bark all over and then with admirable skill works the wood into an object useful in daily life. The bits left over from his owrk he uses for cooking his food, then eats his fill. There is still a good for nothing bit left over, a gnarled and knotted billet: he picks it up, whittles it with the concentration of leisure, he shapes it with the skill of relaxation, he gives it a human shape or pehaps he makes it into some vile animal, smears it with ochre, paints its surface red, coats over all its blemishes. He next makes a worthy home for it… it is only an image, and it needs to be helped. And yet if he needs to pray for his goods, for marriages, for his children, he does not blush to harangue this lifeless thing. " (Wisdom 13:11-19)

It is here in the Book of Wisdom that we find the truth about what is meant by idolatry. It is the creation of an image that is to be like a god. Jesus and Mary are living human beings (or at least I should say that Jesus and Mary lived upon this earth. Since they are real human beings they cannot be compared to the worthless idols that are mentioned in the Book of Wisdom. Mary is not a goddess and she is not worshipped by Catholics as if she was a goddess, this is an Evangelical invention meant to make false witness against Catholics. Jesus on the other hand is God and He is also man. Therefore to make an image of Jesus or Mary is no different than making an image of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln or Tommy Bent.

Isn’t it a rule on this forum to honestly represent yourself?

I’ve got a sneaky suspicion someone not only isn’t catholic - but is anti-catholic to boot, and pretending to be catholic.

Hmmmm. When someone starts a thread (usually attacking a Caholic belief), then refuses to come back and respond, does that mean he’s a (gasp) troll?

Peace,
Linda

Well…one thing you can say about Dave is that he is open about opposing the Church.
I wasn’t referring to Dave.
