When properly understood there is no contradiction between Gen 1 and 2. One speaks to the order of creation, the other the importance of man.
There is no contradiction, when our Lord Jesus was confronted by those silly Pharisees with their “tricky” questions He quoted Genesis 1 and 2 together and they fit like hand and glove. If He had said something wrong the Pharisees would have spoken up.

“And there came to him the Pharisees tempting him, and saying: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4 Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, Made them male and female? (Gen 1:27) And he said:
5 For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they two shall be in one flesh.(Gen 2:24)
6 Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.”

It’s also interesting that genetics demonstrates that woman could have only come from man and not man from woman. Man has chromosomes XY and woman has XX, so when God created Eve from Adam’s side He didn’t need to create anything new, so they are “one flesh”.

I wouldn’t depend on science to explain the mysteries of the universe. They have no idea how old the universe is or if there was a big bang. It 's all theory. They are still arguing over how the moon was created. What moon creation theory do you hold to?
I know that scientists certainly haven’t found out everything about the universe and a lot of it is theory, but are you saying you don’t trust anything that they’ve discovered?

AND BTW this is my 1000th post :extrahappy:

Congrats on the 1000th post!

I suspect the anti-scientists, in order to maintain the claim that all theory is useless, had better not ride in a car, go into a skyscraper, take an airplane trip, or ingest any medicine. It’s all just a bunch of guesswork, and we can’t say for 100% sure that these things will work on any given day, so we’d better leave them completely alone.

What do you mean when you say that the 2nd story is older than the 1st? How do we know which story came first if the Jewish tradition of history is oral?
Sorry about that… I meant it is believed that it was written first. I should have proof-read. 🙂

Thank you for pointing that out. I normally just use the NAB.

So the DR bible doesn’t use the word “then.”

Does that mean that the NAB is misquoting God?

Alan
Had to pull out the parallel with the NASB to find all of those "then"s in it, but none of them say God created man and THEN vegetation.

Agreed. I don’t need to define “then” for Genesis 2 account. 👍

For it, we need to discuss “at the time when” and “while.”
Gen 2:4b-7:
At the time when the LORD God made the earth and the heavens – while as yet there was no field shrub on earth and no grass of the field had sprouted, for the LORD God had sent no rain upon the earth and there was no man to till the soil, but a stream was welling up out of the earth and was watering all the surface of the ground – the LORD God formed man out of the clay of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and so man became a living being.
Thank you for the reply. Sorry it took a while for me to answer – I’ve been so busy breaking my Lenten observance that this thread scrolled off page 1 of the search for my posts. :slapfight:
