That father has far more restraint than I would have had in that situation. All reason goes out the window for me when it comes to kids and animals. I think killing people who abuse kids or animals is too quick a punishment. I prefer seeing them paralyzed from the neck down so they can spend the rest of their days living with the consequences of their actions. (I know, not very nice)
That’s still an argument based on personal preference. Maybe you’d both be wrong?

I think wanting people to suffer is dangerous. You’re entitled to your opinion, but it’s not a Catholic one.

Many crimes like this occur ,most of which are never reported, it’s easy to wish ill will upon those guilty of such things,
What makes people do such things ? Many that are guilty are parents, people in law,
People from the church, teachers, their not all porn deranged people,
But people that have ordinary lives, it is I think a human weakness, an immaturity that prevails which has no clear explanation,
perhaps C A. Could have a behavioural psychologist that could give an explanation
As to what causes a person to behave in such a way,
To me,. To say it is the work of satan , is not a real definitive answer

Its important to remember though, that satan desires to world to NOT believe he even exists, for the most part, he has been successful in this, even among the devout…they never like to attribute things to Satan, Im sure he is enjoying every minute of this too!

I wish no offence, but this is not a definitive answer,
satan should not be a one size fits all answer

That’s what a father should do.

Knowing myself I would have probably stopped once that individual was unconscious. I don’t think I would keep going after that point- but I guess- who really knows.

An unknown man in my house, without invitation?

I would have shot him.

Ok, I missed that bit. But if that confession wasn’t there, would it still be OK?

I think not. Justice is for the courts. Vigilante justice is not good unless there are no courts. Self defense or defense of another person is valid but that stops once the perp is restrained. Arguably emotions can be difficult to control but that can only be a mitigating factor.
You are absolutely correct. But I would still kill him.

Funny enough, Pope Francis just spoke about how animals are never equivalent to humans and do not deserve to be treated as equals. Willingness to seriously harm another human over an animal is ridiculous and a lack in common sense.

I also find it very interesting that the very same people who support the beating of this perpetrator by the father, would not show the same enthusiasm if the perp were a Catholic priest.

And how do you make that assumption?

And you know this how?

No need to be sanctimonious. I doubt anyone is tacitly saying that hurting the man is justifiable in God’s eyes. Protecting the child sure, but not reveling in the man’s pain.

HAVING SAID THAT, many are being honest about their natural reaction to seeing their child, or any child, abused in such a heinous way. And frankly, anyone who isn’t honest enough to admit there are situations where they could lose control is lying anyway. That is called being human.

I can’t defend someone beating the man to a pulp (even though a small part of me wants to), but I can certainly understand doing that, and therein lies the difference.

Besides, how do you know people view a Priest who rapes a boy any differently? I suspect in most cases, the reaction would be the same.

You seem to be (intentionally perhaps) conflating defending the Church and defending individual people who do base, evil things.

Maybe you should actually read through the thread and see all the thumbs upping and pride in the beating 🤷

Because making excuses for bad priests and the Church is the normal reaction for many, especially on CAF.

I am all for calling things as they are, even if it makes me look bad. I dont believe in excuse making. Wrong is wrong. So for all those who thumbs up and pat the father in the back, is quite hypocritical. I dont know whether the beating was justified or how I wouldve reacted, but I certainly dont think taking pride in such an action is the right thing regardless. 🤷

Who here has stood up for a priest that has molested children?

 Not as ridiculous and lacking in common sense as someone using what the Pope says to excuse the torturing of animals.
