Some of them are. They are afraid of real change. They are not willing to put themselves on the line for the kind of change that might occur - like overturning Roe V. Wade or not allowing same-sex marriage. To some of these Republicans, these are issues for the hard-core religous and don’t mean too much to them.

They don’t get it.
If we are sold out by the Republican majority: Isaiah 22 - “Behold, the LORD will hurl you away violently, O you strong man. He will seize firm hold on you, and whirl you round and round, and throw you like a ball into a wide land… I will thrust you from your office, and you will be cast down from your station.”

I am not one who quotes scripture much, but I hope Pat Buchanan runs in 2008, so I can vote for him and encourage other pro-lifers to vote for him and other real pro-lifers. We have the Presidency, we have a Republican Senate, we have the votes for a pro-life Supreme Court nominee. We also have spineless Republicans who have no business being in any elected office, let alone the U.S. Senate. Does anybody know what this fight is over?

Also as part of the compromise, the Democrat moderates promise to prevent any future filibuster of Bush appeals court and Supreme Court nominees. While Democrats were able to have their “exceptional circumstances” clause inserted in the deal, no one anticipates that such a situation will arise, assuming Democrats keep their promise.
Huh? Are you kidding me? The Democrats will fight tooth and nail and use the filibuster if necessary to prevent a pro-life SC nominee from getting on the bench. If they have the option, they will use it. Has the person that wrote this article observed the Democrat party for the past 10 years or so?

This really is not an issue of constitutionality. Senate rules on debate are up to the Senate to decide. There is nothing in the constitution that restricts that. If you really want to permanently change that, you need to mak a change to the constitution. But, personally, I don’t think we want to go there.

There is nothing in the advise and consent clause of the constitution that forbids an unrestricted debate on a candidate.

Having said that. Just because it is not unconstitutional, doesn’t make it correct.
If you have no fairness in representatives then you have not fair representation. If the representatives are blatantly unfair, the rules need to be changed. What the Democrats have been doing is little better than if they had a way to filibuster the presidential vote in 2000 so that Clinton had to stay in office.

There are too many pro-“choice” Republicans. We need to get them out of office. The 7 in the agreement just targeted themselves. When will people realize that McCain is without a full deck? Has anyone heard him talk about the enviroment? He’s a lefty.

It was not the pro-choice Republicans who sold us out. It was two pro-life Senators: Catholic pro-life Senator Mike DeWine and Pro-life Senator Lindsey Graham.

Until this deal which was made with DeWine & Graham, all the Republicans were voting to end debate on every Bush nominee (every previous cloture vote). I agree we need to get the pro-choice Senators out of office where a pro-life senator can win (Alaska/Virginia/Arizona). However, I’ll take the three pro-choice senators from New England, if there is not much of a shot at getting a pro-life Republican. Remember pro-life Democrat means absolutely NOTHING! Pro-choice Republicans are more valuable than pro-life Democrats. I have been listening to Senate candidate Bob Casey and he does not sound very pro-life. Bob Casey is no Governor Casey. I’ll take Specter over Casey in any senate election. Casey is always talking about we have to get beyond the abortion debate and discuss things which we can agree upon. Casey has even attacked Bush’s nominees! Casey appears to be another Harry Reid, pro-life in name only.

On Bob Casey: http://www.grassrootspa.com/2005/03/spectator-casey-comfortable-with.html

We have the votes in the senate! What do we have to get? 60 Republican senators! The Republicans never in their history had the ability to defeat the filibuster on their own. We had the Supreme Court handed to the pro-life movement, but DeWine & Graham took it and gave it back to the Democrats in the Senate.

I came to that realization…specificly during the RNC convention…

did you see his face during Zells’ speech?

Buchanan hasn’t a chance. IMO, you Republicans will have a choice between McCain and Giuliani, two very admirable men, and moderates.

And, as much as I would like to see a Democratic victory, I think it’ll be one of those two winning.

Buchanan isn’t a Republican… but I agree, he doesn’t have a chance.

Giuliani won’t carry the pro-life vote

McCain is too old

The only office that matters now is the Supreme Court of Dictators. Does it really matter when you have a Republican president and a Republican Senate, but pro-life senators reject the ability to appoint pro-life SC justices?

McCain and Giuliani are just as moderate as Bill Clinton. The Democrats can have them.

If the Republican’s choice is between those two libs, I’ll be voting for a third party. I am hoping it will be between Governor/Senator George Allen, Gov. Huckabee, Senator Frist, and perhaps Governor Owens. If Allen or Owens is the Republican candidate, I’ll be voting for them. They are both genuine.

We were handed a victory. Thank tweedle dee and tweedle dumb for giving the pro-abortion crowd the win. And I am not talking about McCain. We all knew where McCain stood on the abortion debate in 2000. Keyes exposed him.

Who else would they vote for? The man is a hero, and few Americans have forgotten how magnificently he performed after 9/11.

Here’s the short list:

Governor/Senator George Allen

Gov. Huckabee

Senator Frist

Governor Owens (if he runs)

There is also Gov. Pataki, McCain, etc

Republicans nominating liberal Giuliani is about as likely as the Democrats nominating Gov. Casey in 1992. And if it happens watch for the Republican Party to split in two.

“If the Republican can’t appoint pro-life SC justices now, they never will.” So what is the point of voting for your average Repubican candidiate? There is no point.

McCain and Chafee are talking about the need for bipartisan support for all SC nominees in the range of 60-80 votes in support of the nominee!

Gov. Huckabee
He’s a joke here in Arkansas. He’s also unbelievably thin-skinned, and that can be disastrous for any candidate.

Don’t worry, there will be competition for your pro-abortion candidate.

Did I say I was going to vote for him? But he is running.

For now, I am only going to vote for Allen. I hope Owens runs if Allen does not run. Frist is seeking the presidency, so he is trying to please his base. For now, I am no big fan of Frist. I don’t believe he is genuine, but if wants to help the pro-life cause, more power to him.

A hero? I don’t know about that but I do know he is for killing the innocent (abortion) and an adulter. Fits very well with the democratic party.

There’s still a couple of years for jockeying for position, but I agree with Gilliam. I don’t think either of them would make it through the primaries. The last two presidents were governors and not the early odds-on favorites in their parties. Look for another governor to pop up.

As far as Democrat vs. Republican as the next president, IMHO it is a ****-shoot. It really depends on who the parties put forward and the political climate in November, 2008. No one can predict that.

God Bless,

Robert.

Speaking of RNC Presidential nominees, why isn’t anyone mentioning Mitt Romney of Massechussetts?

Digitonomy:
Your statement is accurate only to the extent that a senator may choose to withdraw from the agreement if he feels that another senator is truly abusing his discretion in determining what constitute “extraordinary circumstances”. Anything short of that, and the larger onus appears to be on the Republican signatories not to support any rule change.
Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said her group was “heartened that the crisis has been averted and the right to filibuster preserved for upcoming Supreme Court nominations. We are confident that a Supreme Court nominee who won’t even state a position on Roe v. Wade is the kind of ‘extraordinary circumstance’ this deal envisions.”

Well, you must have been living in a cave the month of September 2001.

But, if you prefer, an inspiration, rather than an actual hero.

I forgot about New England. Mitt Romney is all over the place on the abortion debate. Not to be trusted. He is another McCain.
