I will no doubt offend some people when I say this (though it is not my intention) but what so few are willing to come out and admit regarding this tragic case, is that George Zimmerman has already been tried and convicted in the minds of many people in America for the unwritten crime of believing that a young black male was up to no good. He broke no laws in following that young man, who from all evidence known at this time, could have easily made it home, and who then could have called police himself and reported the strange man following him, but instead though it appears that he chose to return to settle matters himself, much in the same way that a foolish young man in a car feels his sense of honor demands that he return to confront another young man who made an obscene gesture at him.
Oh please, it seems like in your world, there is nothing wrong with profiling a black person. Martin was simply walking home and George Zimmermann said “these *******s, they always get away” / “these ****ing punks…”. And he followed Martin so that he shouldn’t get away, all simply because the boy was black.

Sorry, if you think nothing is wrong with that, then…

The question is not whether he was profiling a black person. The question is is his guilty of second degree murder. The picture released seems to support Zimmermans account of what happened I dont think charges should even have been filed

This would be a terrible thing if it were true. At this time there is zero evidence that this is true.

No, not simply because the boy was black, but because he was behaving oddly, which is why Zimmerman called the police in the first place. This was a racially mixed neighborhood; he wouldn’t have called for every young black man he saw or he’d have been on the phone all the time!*

There had been several burglaries in the neighborhood over the previous year. One occurred while the occupant was in her home with her small child, and Zimmerman helped her out afterwards. He told her to go to his wife if she felt nervous.

And a couple of years before, Zimmerman had spent hours informing people and working for an investigation of a case in which the white son of a police officer was not arrested after beating a black homeless man.

No. You referred to those who get drafted as “shafted.” They are not being shafted. It is a privilege to serve your country.
I guess being sent to jail for refusing this “privilege” was just a form of “tough love.”

In the future you might be wise to say something factual rather than sinful rash judgment.

I’ve called 911 twice in the past year.

Neither time did I call for advice. Both times I called for a police/ambulance response. And since the people that answered the phone was a police officer or medical personnel, I wouldn’t have listened to them anyway. 🤷
You don’t listen to cops? It might be best to reconsider that stance. 🤷

Not sure what you are talking about. I wasn’t suggesting compulsory military service. I am suggesting that EVERYONE should devote one year to service to country. It could be working in a food bank, a hospital, with social services, etc. Something like the Peace Corps. EVERYONE needs to get off their own block and see how the other side lives. There should be no exemptions.

Not like FOX news which is “fair and balanced.” 😃
You guys really need to get off the Fox News thing. They don’t specialize in reporting lies and distortions. I have heard Bill O’Reilly (not news, BTW) apologize for getting things wrong. Has NBC apologized for deliberately altering the tape?

Zimmerman and his wife tutored disadvanted children, some of whom were black. It is an unfortunate fact that a disproportionate number of crimes are commited by black youths. Black on black crime is appalling. Until we can openly address this issue without being called racist, the problem will continue.

Have you ever heard of the “no snitch” rule in black communities?

CNBC and FOX- different sides of the same coin.

Not admitting this shows clear lack of perspective and blind partisanship.

It depends on how folks want to discuss the issue if their comments are called racist. I, for example, am white and have been on coalitions of white folks, black folks and everything in-between and spoken extensively of crime in the minority community.

No prejudiced comments or racist stereotypes are made. We would actually talk about the real reasons and practical solutions.

It depends on how the subject is discussed. Some folks, not implying you, can’t discuss the issues facing minorities without making biting, thinly veiled racist, overt racist, or steriotypical commentary.

I hope he successfully sues them for a billion dollars and bankrupts MSNBC which is nothing more than yellow journalism.
I hope it gets thrown out.

Not because MSNBC burnished the report, but because a lawsuit against a news station, whether you like them or not, will have an impact on freedom of speech.

Everyone who doesn’t like was is reported will sue, regardless of whether they think they can win or not, but just for the sake of harassing the news agency.

Give me one example of Fox deliberately altering tapes and news. (Dan Rather anyone)?

I agree Fox gives the conservative spin. 🙂

How about for altering the tape? Is that freedom of speech?

True. All you have to do is read the comments section of the newspaper any time black crime is reported.

And what about slandering a person? Is that alright with you? And you don’t think Zimmerman has been harassed since that? I don’t know what really happened and neither does anyone else on this forum. I think it is unwise to state one’s opinion as if it were fact until the facts are known. And how long do we let the MSM, whichever side it supports, misreport the facts in order to gain ground for their particular point of view.
