Having thought of, reflected upon, and made reparation for the act of desecration perpetrated against the Most Blessed Sacrament through the hands of one Professor PZ Myers, I now realise that this one act of desecration, so abhorrent in the eyes of God, has borne 10 fruits that are pleasing to God. I use a prayer that is frequently prayed during a Holy Hour of Reparation and change it a little so that the message becomes clear. Let me explain in an open letter to him.

I am writing to congratulate you Professor Myers, not obviously for your recent act of desecration of the most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, the sourse and summit of our Catholic life, but because I want you to know that your one action of hatred has brought about 10 fruits in the lives of the Catholic faithful. Each of these fruits, in their own way, give glory to God and help repair the horrible outrage perpetrated by you against the Holy of Holies. Let me explain…

Through your act of desecration, Professor Myers, you have blasphemed the sacred mysteries of the Holy Catholic Church. Because of your blasphemy you have succeded in helping us to believe in them more firmly.

Through your impiety you have tried to extinguish our hopes of immortality. Because of your impiety you have succeded in helping us to trust all the more in The Sacred Heart of Jesus, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament, the sole hope of all mankind!

Through your blindness of heart you resist the Divine attractions. Because of your blindness you have helped us to see that we need to love more, the infinitely amiable Heart of Jesus!

Through your unbelief, you have attacked The Divinity of Christ. Because of your unbelief you have helped us to adore Christ’s Sacred Divinity more humbly and profoundly!

Through your hate, you have despised and abandoned the Holy Sacraments. Because of your hatred and contempt you have helped us to resolve that we shall receive them more frequently with great love and reverence!

Through your disregard for, and ignorance of, all that is Holy and Sacred, you have neglected and forgotten the Holy Virtues. Because of your neglect and ignorance you have helped us to endeavor to practice them more faithfully!

Through your implication and cooperation with evil, the devil labors through you to destroy souls. Because of your cooperation with evil, you have helped us to become inflamed with desire to save them!

Through your sin and impurity you have destroyed the image of God in yourself and have attempted to destroy His image in others. Because of your sin and impurity we shall try all the more, by purity of life, to be a living temple of the Holy Spirit!

Through your vile words and actions you have shown that you despise the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of God. Because of your words and actions we shall endeavor to be more faithful to Her.

Through your contempt for the Church of Christ, you have tried to persecute the Holy Father, Christ’s Vicar on earth. Because of your contempt we will honor the Pope as the infallible head of the Holy Church of God, and we vow to show our fidelity and pray for him always!

See, I think what you have yet to understand is that when God allows an evil act to take place, it is because He wishes to bring about a greater good. In other words we do get beautiful roses because of manure. In this case your one act of hatred has brought about 10 ‘greater goods’ in the life of each of the Catholic faithful. So, I suppose, for these good fruits we owe you our thanks.

I didn’t want to quote the whole thing as it is long, but what an absolutely BEAUTIFUL post!!!

I’d been thinking this morning about Mr. Meyers, as well as the other man who’d threatened a similar desecration. And I was reminded strongly of St. Paul, who himself persecuted Christians before becoming a great warrior for Christ.

Let us continue to pray for Mr. Meyers, as well as all those who perpetrate evil, remembering that our Lord works ALL things for good.

well said, fergal.

I have to admit, I was angry when I first read about the PZ Myers incident, although I never e-mailed him, nor do I intend to for reasons stated previously.

I went to Church yesterday and for whatever reason (no scheduled baptisms, or other events) our Church had more people in attendance than I have seen recently. Obviously, there is no way to know whether it was a result of this dispicable act by PZ Myers that more people attended.

But you never know.

This was true at our church too. My husband and I were wondering why it was so crowded. Interesting.

What I learned from PZ Myers:
  1. He is an ignorant man–and by this I mean he speaks as an authority on what Catholics believe without actually having an accurate understanding of what Catholics believe.
  2. He is an evil man, one who finds joy in destroying things that are important to others if he doesn’t agree with their beliefs.
  3. He is troublemaker who goes out of his way to stir up chaos and disorder.
  4. He is a bad scientist, because he doesn’t understand the limitations of the scientific method.
  5. He is a bully, who uses his position of authority to brow beat those who don’t share his views.
  6. He is a hypocrite, who says “nothing is sacred” (except, of course, the things he holds sacred, like evolution).
  7. That Christ is all good, and can work good even through the most grievous evil.
  8. That Christ is merciful, and his mercy is even now shining through his faithful as they pray for PZ Myers.

You can share your displeasure of this mean act by writing the chancellor of his teaching school or the president of the U of M system. jrjohnso@morris.umn.edu , or bruin001@umn.edu

St. Pius X in his decree: Sacra Tridentina Synodus Teaches that the sacraments produce a greater effect in proportion to the good disposition of the recipient.

I will being doing a holy hour tomorrow and will pray that some day Mr. Myers will have an opportunity to go to confession so he can improve his disposition toward Jesus.

A quote from Pope John Paul II "Be converted for the judgment of the Lord will come upon you one day"

I heard there will be a mass baptism by a non lay person before the event on the Carnival Cruise next week? is this true?

Hi everyone,

I am new here and would like to say hello.

In regards to the Desecration of the Blessed Sacrament. I have always believed that you can’t hate what you don’t know. I feel that deep in the recesses of this man he knows God, but he hates him for whatever reasons. I don’t know how you would hate something that you do not believe exists. I don’t believe that a little green man exists from Mars, why would I hate him? I believe that deep down this man knows God exists, he would have to in order to hate with such a vengeance.

No, I think that the target of his hatred is not God, but those who believe in God. We are all prone to be envious of another person’s good fortune, talents, etc. Therefore, he is probably very jealous of people who have accepted God in their lives and try to live by His Word. Beneath that jealousy and envy is probably a sadness from wondering why it is so difficult for him and others like him to accept God in their lives. Many times the outward emotion that is expressed masks the internal emotion that the person feels, but does not want to reveal to others.

Hi,

Yes, I do see your point, however, We as believers believe in the Supreme Being and Myers does hate us,but he hates the object of our love Jesus. He did not just deface a Bible or something of that nature or try to go after a believer, he put a rusted nail through the Heart of Jesus on this earth. He hates us as believers, but he hates Jesus more for the Giver of wonderful gifts to His people. I still don’t know how you hate if you don’t believe in the existence of something as atheists claim.

Hi Lakotak! Welcome to the forum! Very valid…I think this man is very conflicted. He is definitely in the middle of some kind of spiritual/emotional crisis. I don’t even get why he would hate the “people of God”, but not necessarily God… He needs our continued prayers.

And yes, Fergal that was an AWESOME post…and exactly what’s going on…God will and has brought sooooo much good from this!!
