How many churches did Jesus promise to build? (Hint: He told us in Matthew 16:19-19)

One Body. Good.

Oh…is it a visible body with structure and leadership or an invisible body made up of all believers regardless of denomination or doctrine?
Thats funny Peter goes from the keys to the kingdom to get thee behind me satan. Thats real convincing.
There are still 7 seperate churches mentioned in Rev.

The church in Rome is an organization and does reflect the greater body. The body is made up of individual believers brought together to help each other and share the gospel with the world. There are Catholics in the body but it is not an organization.

If you are concerned about the word until being miss translated it is not. Its the Greek word eos and means until.

Mat 1:25 But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus

You can twist and turn all you want but the translation is accurate and means exactly what it infers.
Jericho777,

Where in the Scriptures does it say that Mary had children other than Jesus Forget about your inability to see past your limited intellect… Obviously all the info we all get must come from separate Holy Spirits since very few us agree. (NOT) The Holy Spirit isn’t able to get through to those who don’t need his help, like you since your mind is already made up. The Holy Spirit couldn’t convince you of anything. Your mind is already shut on this matter as well as many others I’m sure.

Who are you to say your fallable response is right on target and all the members of Christ world during his time on earth and the next generation so heartily would say you are wrong…

Tell me. What’s the actual reason Jesus gave Mary to John and John to Mary. Don’t speculate like all the other non-believers. Give it to me straight from ther Scriptures.

Take care not to read into the Bble something that’s not there.
Are you so blind that you can not read this verse or are you still doing your privat interpretation that is not condoned in the Bible

JPaul1953,

Let’s apply what you infer to other verses with the same Greek word and construction… Let’s see what they say usning your inference.

2193 = heos - till, until

Mt 1:25 and did not know her till <2193> she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS. Joseph never knew Mary in a complete way.

Mt 2:13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until <2193> I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.” Mary, Joseph and Jesus never left Egypt.

Mt 10:11 "Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till <2193> you go out. They never left those sities.

Mt 5:26 "Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till <2193> you have paid the last penny. After paying his debt, he stayed in jail.

Mt 17:9 Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until <2193> the Son of Man is risen from the dead.” They never told of the vision.

Mt 23:39 “for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till <2193> you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’” They never saw and never will see Jesus again.

Mt 26:36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while <2193> I go and pray over there.” They never stood up and spent the rest of their days in Gethsemane sitting.
Dokimas,
As I ask Jericho, where in Scriptures does it say that mary had other children besides Jesus. Yes I know it says Jesus had Brothers and sisters, my brother, but where does it say other children say the Jesus’ mom is their mom. WHERE! PLEASE SHOW ME.

I bet you can’t

Do you think you need the Holy Spirit when you have the CC?

Questioning anothers intellect may say more about you than the one’s intellect you are questioning. Not very kind or loving on your part.

The reason John was given charge to protect Mary was because, Jesus as the elder Son, had the responsibility for His mother in the absence of her husband. Jesus, knowing what’s best, did what was correct for His mother. Quite simple and straighforward. So simple even a mental light weight like me can understand. Seems the wisdom of God is the wisdom of great intellects, but lightweights.

Hear is what the bible has to say in Zech 12-10 it precdicks the Messiah will be an only child

You are correct it doesn’t say that Mary had other children. However, according to Matthew 1:25 Joseph and Mary did not concumate their marriage until Jesus was born; putting that together with the verses that speak of the sibblings of Jesus, I’d guess it’s logical to assume Mary had other children.

While we’re on the subject of ‘prove it from the Bible’ where does it say Mary remained a virgin until her death, taking into account the Matthew 1 passage says she only remained a virgin until Jesus was born?

to say until is just to emphasize that it was a virgin birth.
plus your looking to deep into the english, the greek manuscript does not imply that they had sex after christs birth

Most people believe Mary was a virgin until after the crucifixion"cathloic do not" soif all is true Jesus was 33 years old and we think Mary was between 14 and 18 so lets see Mary be 47 or 51 is not to old to be having children,do you think a person at age 47 is still t
having children

Dokimas,

That is the silly non-biblical response a non-Catholic would give. What you said is just made up . I’m not insulting your intellect. i’m only letting you see for yourself how far you will go to prove an unprovable point that makes you sound right.

Are you looking for the truth or are you just wanting to be right? As Jesus was asked, if my older brother dies and leaves behind a family, the next in line must take care of them, and so on and so on. That’s the way things were done in Judaism. Who took care of Mary when Jesus was out and about on all his ministerial tours, His younger siblings or no one.

Just answer the question, where does it say in the Bible that the Blessed Virgin Mary had other natural children----NOWHERE. It only says Jesus had other brothers or sisters.

When the Catholic Church put the NT together they were searching for the consistent truth so they found Mary to have remained a virgin. If she wasn’t, they would have said she mothered children after Jesus.

Understand there is only one reason non-Catholics claim Mary had other children. The reason is to negate the way the one true Church claims it to be so thereby reducing the Church’s credibility.

Seek and you shall find. You just don’t want to accept what all early protestants accepted and that is her perpetual virginity.

The bigger picture is that the once was a Protestant Reformation made up of about 5-churches. They had legitimate problems with the Church. Since then all 33,000+ denominations odf today separated from the original Protestants, not the Catholic. So you guys are protestant protestants, as wierd as that sounds.

Dokimas,

You have heard this story time and time again. Matthew 1-25 was only written to make people understand that Mary did not conceive from Joseph.

The word until, as millions of other words didn’t carry the exact definition of today. “The woman beared no children until her death” Okay that means in your mind that she had children after she died. You know that’s not true.

You do know that the Church reads the Bible in a literalist manner, trying to understand what was said when it was written, not literally as do most non-Catholics.

I’m sure you heard this but just in case. “If it was written today that it was raining cats and dogs outside” you and I would know that it was raining quite hard outside. Two thousand years from now a Catholic Theologian would find out that two thousand years earlier that expression meant that it was really raining. Non-Catholics might just believe it was truly raining cats and dogs.

I’m not trying to insult you. I’m just trying to let you think that you maybe working extra hard at proving the Church wrong rather than finding out the truth.

God bless

Dokimas, I got this from Cathloic Treabure Chest it not for debate its for your info conceived?

This means she had no stain of sin at her conception, no ‘Original Sin’.

. GOD and sin are mutually excludable. God cannot co-exist with sin.

C When Adam and Eve sinned, they were thrown out of Eden (Gen 3:24), the gates of Heaven were closed. There was no salvation of mankind until Jesus Christ died on the cross, and the gates were reopened.

. When GOD gave the plans of the ‘Ark of the Covenant’, to the people, he was very meticulous as to just how the ‘container’ of His ‘WORD’, the stone tablets of the ‘Ten Commandments’, was to be constructed. It had to be perfect and without blemish. Ex 25:8-40

The ‘New Ark of the Covenant’, the vessel that was to ‘contain’ the ‘WORD’, Jesus Christ Incarnate, had to be ‘made’ without blemish also.

. The ‘New Ark of the Covenant’ was Mary. She was to give birth to the ‘WORD’, Jesus Christ. Jn 1:1,14

Read Luke 1:28, ‘And when the Angel had come to her, he said, "Hail full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women’." Luke 1:30, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for thou hast found Grace with GOD’. ‘Full of Grace’, and ‘Grace with GOD’, could only mean Mary was without sin. John the Baptist had not yet appeared to start the Sacrament of Baptism. If GOD created the entire universe out of nothing, don’t you think the GOD who imposed Adam’s Sin on mankind could make one little Jewish girl without original sin?

She had to be ‘Immaculately Conceived’ to satisfy the fact that GOD cannot coexist with sin.

I Was Mary always a virgin? Did she have other children?

. Mt 13:55-56 and MK 6:3 say, “Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, the ‘brother’ of James, and Joseph, and of Jude and Simon? And are not His ‘sisters’ here with us?”

At first it looks like Jesus had brothers and sisters. These are the main two verses that some say ‘prove’ He did. Lets look at the definitions.

From four different dictionaries, the word ‘brother’ means, sons of the same parents, OR, friend, ally, kinsman, fellow man, member of the same clan, fellow member of a Church etc. Which definition fits the verses?

. Compare Mt 10:2-4, Mk 15:40, Jn 19:25, and Acts 1:13 and you will find that James, Joseph, and Jude were sons of Cleophas (Alphaeus) and ‘the other Mary’, not Mary the Mother of GOD. Simon was the ‘Canaanite’ of Mk 3:18, and the ‘Zealot’.

. NONE of the four ‘brothers’ were sons of Mary, the Mother of GOD. They were ‘fellow men’. This makes the word ‘brother’ a non-argument. Mt 12:50

Meaning ‘universal’???
Meaning that as early as the end of the first century those members of the Way (also called Christians) had begun to refer to their church as the universal or catholic church.

The adjective quickly became a noun, and the name Catholic Church has been around ever since.

You can read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution to understand the thought of the Fathers of our country, but you can also read history books and their other writings to gain additional insights.

Similarly, you can read the Bible to understand the inspired gospel message, but you can also read the writings of the Early Church Fathers to understand how the Church interpreted those scriptures and lived them out.

Thats funny Peter goes from the keys to the kingdom to get thee behind me satan. Thats real convincing.
Actually, it is. Peter’s human failings provide evidence that the Catholic Church is of God and not of man.
There are still 7 seperate churches mentioned in Rev.
Think of them as seven congregations all part of the one Church. For example, I attend St. Andrew Catholic Church. Not far from my home are St. Michael Catholic Church and St. Bernadette Catholic Church. These are not separate “churches” in the big sense of the word, but they are distinct groups within the one Church. Thyatira and Laodicea were not independent, autonomous bodies of believers; they were local churches just like the dioceses and parishes of the Catholic Church today.
The church in Rome is an organization and does reflect the greater body. The body is made up of individual believers brought together to help each other and share the gospel with the world. There are Catholics in the body but it is not an organization.
Well, let’s see…the Church is organized and has organizational structure … hmmm … yeah, it must be an organization.

I’m not sure what you’re objecting to here, so I’ll wait for more data.

You are correct it doesn’t say that Mary had other children. However, according to Matthew 1:25 Joseph and Mary did not concumate their marriage until Jesus was born;
Matthew 1:24-25: Until she brought forth a son

Matthew 1:24-25
24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son.

The word *until *here just says what happened up to the time of Christ’s birth. It doesn’t imply anything about what happened after that, although our modern use of the word until seems to imply that. For an example of this, look at 2 Samuel 6:23, which says, “Michal the daughter of Saul had no children till the day of her death.” We’re obviously not supposed to assume that she had children after she died.

Other Examples of “Until” That Do Not Require Cessation of Action

Genesis 8:7
The raven “did not return TILL the waters were dried up…” Did the raven ever return?

Deuteronomy 34:6 (Knox)
No one knew the location of his grave “until this present day” But we know that no one has known it since that day either.
putting that together with the verses that speak of the sibblings of Jesus, I’d guess it’s logical to assume Mary had other children
Dokimas-

The Bible does not mention siblings of Jesus in the manner you think of, and I can show you this if you’d like to pick a verse or two that supports your view.
While we’re on the subject of ‘prove it from the Bible’ where does it say Mary remained a virgin until her death, taking into account the Matthew 1 passage says she only remained a virgin until Jesus was born?
The latter part of your question was addressed above. As for the former portion, this is not stated explicitly in the Bible (I could make a case for implicit reference); however, a close reading of scripture actually suggests the opposite of what you believe, ancient writings of early Christians show that they believed Mary remained ever-virgin, the Church declared this to be the case in the sixth century, and the Protestant reformers such as Luther and Calvin believed Mary remained virginal.

The preponderance of the evidence is in favor of her perpetual virginity.

to say until is just to emphasize that it was a virgin birth.
plus your looking to deep into the english, the greek manuscript does not imply that they had sex after christs birth
The implications of the text are very clear. A plain and simply reading shows this. We have to go deeper into the Greek because you don’t believe the engilsh.
