Did Russians interfere in the 2016 U.S. elections and is such interference acceptable?

Seems, acc to a Democracy Now! interview yesterday, Julian Assange is strongly denying that Russia did the hacking on the DNC.

Also on another news program was the arrest of a Russian criminal spammer who is suspected of having been recruited by the Russian gov to do espionage for them, including it seems the bots and spam that interfered with the US election (according to his wife). Also it seems he had recruits working with him.

I started thinking it might be that Assange is correct (tho I don’t necessarily trust him). It could be that someone, not a Russian but perhaps an American, got training from that Russian spammer and was the one who hacked into the DNC…someone who wanted Hillary to lose, perhaps someone who wanted Trump to win even during the primaries, since there was some dirty work interference against some other Republican primary runners, acc to the FBI. In any case the person who did the DNC hacking was someone who did not want Hillary to win and perhaps did want Trump to win the primaries.

Of course we may never find out anything since the CIA is now being run by a Trump appointee and Trump may replace the heads the other intelligence communities, including the FBI, with his picks.

I’m not saying the head of those agencies would do anything illegal, per se, but they could shift focus to other issues, and ignore those that may be harmful to their big boss.

Lots of speculating here. Why don’t you concentrate on who really interfered with the election, the Democrats, which we have evidence of

Not health insurance, but healthcare.
How can private charity help a person with MS and whose medication costs tens of thousands of dollars? Charity wasn’t able to help these people before Obamacare, what exacly changed that it will if the ACA is repealed?

Hard to know how many people who have tens of thousands of dollars in costs for MS treatment were not covered by something else prior to obamacare. Some would have been covered by private insurance. Some by Medicaid. Some by medicare.

Hard to know how many such costs were simply written off or how many were aided by charity.

Obamacare is, for now, a benefit to some people, but certainly not to the majority who are paying the price for it. A few million are heavily subsidized and 17 million were pushed onto Medicaid. But nobody knows how many people lost the opportunity to get employment based insurance in the process.

I have never seen any comparative numbers on any of that. Possibly someone can supply them, but I am not expecting it.

The left lost this election because they had bad ideas and a bad candidate.

Given the entitlement mentality of many Americans, that speaks for itself.
Like no one voting Republican collects Social Security and accepts Medicare?

Neither of which fit the same category. SS and Medicare were sold as insurance paid by “contributions”, as in FICA, Federal Insurance Contributions Act. The government confiscated my "contributions ". I intend to collect MY money

Social Security and Medicare are entitlements, and have always been entitlements. The fact that politicians sometimes pretend differently does not change that.

And it doesn’t bother you that Ryan and friends wish to dismantle both?

Well, if your claim is true then it seems the Dems wanted to lose, or they weren’t very effective by their interfering in winning. 🙂

Ill go with not very effective and major underestimating of the Trump vote. They even cheated during a debate and still couldn’t win!

Not pretend. It is in the law. Now, they are entitlements in the sense that I am entitled to get my money back, money the confiscated without a constitutional enumerated mandate

Did they merge two threads? I thought this one was about the Russian interference.

Social Security and Medicare are entitlements, not insurance or savings programs. We sometimes like to pretend that they are savings programs so that our parents can pretend they are not on public assistance programs, and that we won’t some day join them on public assistance. But that desire to pretend does not change the facts.

I don’t know what happend but there is whole other tread on healthcare! OP thread is about Russian interference in 2016 elections !!

Tillerson: Election Meddling Something 'Russia Needs To Confront Themselves’
**
Before departing for a closely-watched trip to Russia this week, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called on the Kremlin to “confront” its meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

In a segment on ABC’s “This Week,” Tillerson warned Russia that its continued meddling here and elsewhere “undermines any hope of [Russia] improving relations” with the United States and European democracies.
**

“It’s pretty evident that they are taking similar tactics into electoral processes throughout Europe and so they’re really undermining any hope for improved relations with many European countries as well,” Tillerson said.

Monday, the Kremlin said that Russian President Vladimir Putin wouldn’t meet with Tillerson this week in Moscow.

Great that someone in the Trump admin admits to Russian meddling and is concerned about it, and that at least he is in touch with reality. BTW he also knows CC is real and not a hoax; his company, Exxon, has known that for many decades, even tho it has been funding a huge CC denialist industry (that many here at CAF buy into).

And I think he actually knows that fracking causes various harms, even tho when he filed a case against a fracking company planning to frack near his Texas estate, he claimed that even tho fracking causes no harm the public perception that it does would devalue his property if fracking were allowed next to it. 🙂 (If only the rest of us had such clout.)

FBI obtained FISA warrant to monitor Trump adviser Carter Page

The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russia and the campaign, law enforcement and other U.S. officials said.

The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications after convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia, according to the officials.

**This is the clearest evidence so far that the FBI had reason to believe during the 2016 presidential campaign that a Trump campaign adviser was in touch with Russian agents. **Such contacts are now at the center of an investigation into whether the campaign coordinated with the Russian government to swing the election in Trump’s favor.

Page has not been accused of any crimes, and it is unclear whether the Justice Department might later seek charges against him or others in connection with Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election. The counterintelligence investigation into Russian efforts to influence U.S. elections began in July, officials have said. Most such investigations don’t result in criminal charges…

Rosneft is one of the keys. How many in WH staff & cabinet connected to oil/oil tankers/oil pipelines…follow the oil and money, here and in Russia

What did they do? Meddle? What does that mean?
